CHAPTER I

BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT

Introduction

The Claim and Courier System, or in other terms, Pick-up and Delivery

System is a system where it can manage both incoming and outgoing resources in

their designated time. The method of pick-up and delivery originates way back

when civilization invented carts and chariots which are the grandparents of

modern cars. This creates a huge impact to the developing communities by

transferring resources and goods to other places without exerting too much effort

and saves time.

In modern day, when people are availing a product, they have no time to

go to the nearest supplier or shop, but instead, they appoint other people or

companies to avail and deliver the product for them like FedEx and Amazon.

Background of the Project

The proponents attempt to create and develop the Claim and Courier

System which has two (2) functions; Requesting for Pick-up and Delivery. To meet

these system requirements, the proponents will apply these requirements inside a

laundry business named “e-Laundry” by creating a website where the user can

register and log-in, avail the service it provides, set their location for pick-up and

delivery, and contact the branch.

1
Statement of Objectives

General Objective

The main objective of the proponents is to design and develop the

Claim and Courier System that will organize, and create a safe and

convenient interaction between the clients and owner. It will provide the

services that enable the user to view the price list, services and details of a

laundry shop. It will also offer a delivery to the user for conveniency and

time saving.

Specific Objectives

1. To create a system that uses web-based languages to make a long-

term, user-friendly, efficient, and interactive Claim and Courier System.

2. To develop a system that allows users to inquire about the price list

and services on e-Laundry.

3. To provide a system that allows users to register and log in to the

system to ensure security and for validation.

4. To develop a system that allows users to monitor the status of their

laundry. 5. To create a system that allows users to request for laundry.

2
Scope and Delimitations of the Project

Scope

1. The system has user-friendly, efficient and interactive.

2. Users can inquire for services of E-Laundry.

3. The system has user login for security.

4. Users can monitor their status.

5. Users can Request Laundry..

Limitations | Delimitations

1. Location of the client and user

2. Walk-in services are not part of the registration.

3. Compromise the quality of the equipment.

4. Delivery services are often late.

3
Methodology

Planning - The researchers devise a strategy for developing the proposed system to

meet the laundry Needs and ensuring that it is fully completed. The researchers devise

a strategy for determining the client's problem and developing a solution to it. This

planning is for the purpose of preparing for the development of the client's proposed

system.

Analysis - The researchers examine all of the information acquired by the researcher.

This information pertains to the system's development as well as the researchers'

clients. The researchers also look into the client's potential difficulties.

Design - A design must adhere to the requirements for creating a system. During this

phase, the researchers create the ERD, Flow Chart, and system layout to demonstrate

4
to the programmer the flow and design of the system that the client wants to see in the

proposed system.

Development - The system is being developed by the project's programmer. The

programmer creates a design in Java to show the design of the system and codes for

the system's function. The researchers assist in developing the proposed system and

getting data for the client.

Testing- During this phase, the researchers test the system to ensure that the system's

functionalities are secure, as well as to determine if there are any problems with the

system prior to its implementation

Implementation - The project or system is put into place or implemented in the

company during the implementation phase. The researchers’ hand over the system to

the client so that they can conduct a reservation transaction using a computerized

system.

Maintenance - The researchers demonstrate how to use the system to the assigned

personnel. Following the system's implementation, the researchers will monitor the

client's daily transactions. If there is a conflict in the system, the researcher is

responsible for revising or providing a solution to that conflict

Significance of the Project

This task will help the customers in placing their order or appoint in

5
the laundry system. this will make much easier to do than going to

the physical store. These are the ones that will benefit from our study:

Laundry Owners: The laundry owners will benefit from the system because

they can use it to improve the business and also, they

are the target client to this system

Future Researchers: They can use it as a guide in creating an idea or creating

system that are similar to us

Customers: They can use the system easily and no need to go in she actual

store to do an appointment about their laundry.

CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURES, STUDIES AND SYSTEMS

Foreign Literature, Studies and Systems

The Claim and Carrier or in other terms, Pickup and Delivery, has been a vital

component service aside from its product, offered by most of the companies in fast food

chains, package/parcel delivery companies, online shopping, etc. This service requires

extra fees to their customers depending on the product they purchased and how long it

would take to deliver from their desired location. Patrol-IT, an international producer and

supplier of software products created a system for this service, they said that the

system they produced for this service is, “a reliable and precise tool” (Pickup & Delivery,

n.d.). They also claim that their system function is to manage drivers and their real-time

activity to ensure that the parcel or package goes to the right route.

This service is now becoming popular to the companies stated earlier, they extend their

reach in delivery making it beneficial to consumers to make it more convenient and time

conserving. According to Paradise Cleaners, a 100-year-old laundry business in

Denver, there are ten (10) benefits of availing Pickup and Delivery Service and these

are the following: Convenience, Efficiency, Cost-Effective, Speed, and Professional

Clean, the proponents did not include the remaining five (5) as they are shares one

effect Physiologically which is Satisfaction. So, this service is not only making the work

more efficient but also satisfies, to some degree, the consumers. Despite an increase in

popularity, people are still doing their laundry chore in their home, but the laundry is still

10
a pain and seems never to get better (AMS, 2019, as cited in Vox, R. Sugar, 2020)

leaving them a choice between to wait until the first batch of their laundry is finished or if

they need to finish it as soon as possible, contacting the nearest establishments that

offer laundry services is an option.

Like any business, this service is not perfect. According to Zinruss, problems in

resources are common problems based on the customer's particular need. They also

added that in this business, wrong and delayed orders may occur and can be minimized

by choosing a reputable service. These problems might be labeled as common or usual

in this business, but it is still better to fix it as soon as possible to maintain customer’s

satisfaction and not to disappoint them. With that being said, all the manpower,

especially the people assigned to manage the workplace needs to be extra careful and

composed, and at the same time, act very quickly so that before a problem gets worse,

they already have a solution.

But in the end, it is still in the customer’s perspective if the action or the executed

solution satisfies them. The end goal of the Laundry Service should be to achieve and

maintain public satisfaction, and companies who offer the service have a different

satisfaction rate based on their action towards the problem and their quality of work. It is

very necessary in this kind of industry to measure their customer’s satisfaction so that

their quality of work progresses towards success. The Designing Customer Satisfaction

Measurement System for a SME Laundry Services Company is a study conducted in

Indonesia that attempts to create a system to measure the customer’s satisfaction on

SME laundry businesses. They find out in their statistics that despite the annual

11
increase of the service in 2010-present (Melany, 2010, as cited in RSB, 2018), the

customer satisfaction labeled in the critical state (Bhate & Shivdas, 2017, as cited in

RSB, 2018).

Local Literature, Studies and Systems

In this section composed all the literary and academic work done by Filipino researchers

and scholars as the people incline themselves towards technology as it is seen its

potential and benefits. A technical and practical implication of Laundry Service.

According to Monique Retamal in November 14, 2019 entitled “Dirty Laundry in Manila:

Comparing Resource Consumption Practices for Individual and Shared Laundering”

With a new emphasis on using economies such as technology, and everyday practices.

Her study about the dirty laundry in Manila is likely to influence the dominance of either

shared or individual laundering methods. It is important to understand the sustainability

consequences of these changes and the potential for policy to practices toward more

sustainable lifestyles. We examined traditional washing by hand, washing by machine,

and using a laundry service. We find that the handwashing uses the least amount of

water and energy, but more quantities of detergents. The machine washing and laundry

services are comparable for water consumption, but energy use is much higher for

services as they use dryers.

12
To believe that Filipinos are inherently clean and neat people, a work done Dr. Romario

Ybanez in October 2011 entitled “The Establishment of a Laundry Shop in Tanjay City”

this review about the Filipinos is keen when it comes to cleanliness and almost every

day households do a particular activity of cleaning up in order to avoid diseases brought

by dirt or stains. The laundry business industry is a new market strategy for economic

development that will strengthen the local economic programs of Tanjay City. This

project which is a laundry business will be given prior attention and emphasis for further

opening of creative markets.

In technological standpoint, according to Trixy Sharmaine Ladipe work on August 30,

2021 entitled “Information System Development Plan for APC Laundry Home” this

review about the strategy in business and individual living practices has developed after

so many years, and it is continuing to develop the system. It helps those people to make

their clothes individuals with a put to wash and clean clothing. This system application is

developed to manage the laundry service and provide a management of information in

the laundry that will help the shop manage its customers. The system wants to improve

the services of this business and will help to improve the performance of the current

situation and overcome the problems that arise nowadays.

Based on the study conducted by Kristine Tigson on May 13 2013 entitled “Comparative

about Business Characteristics among selected Laundry Shop in Camella Homes,

Springville, Molino III, Bacoor City” this study aims that this study will be designed to

describe the business characteristics of the selected laundry shop. The most preferred

13
services by the customer and to know the problems encountered by the selected

laundry shops. The researchers selected eight (8) laundry shops with different

backgrounds of success on their own strategies. And with that note it captures the

attention of the researchers to have a further comparative study which will enable to

differentiate each of the selected laundry shops, and the researchers will be using the

purposive sampling technique. This study will also be using the analysis and

interpretation of gathered data such as Sloven Formula and Weighed Mean.

According to Joelle Bernadeth A. Amado in 2015 entitled “Molecules Laundry Shop” this

study aims to locate the Molecules Laundry Shop located at 57 BE Tanguile St.

Lakeview Subdivision, Bucal, Calamba Laguna. The target market was people of this

age 15 to 27 who had a population of 6,338. The Molecules Laundry Shop was

committed to provide the finest quality dry cleaning and laundry services to customers

by delivering friendly, express, and personalized services at reasonable price by using

natural soap and powder. It provided door to door pick and delivery, fast lane priority

and text tracking system. It accepted a minimum of 3 kilograms of laundry at a price of

PH 25 per kilogram of washing.

14
Synthesis of the Reviewed Literature, Studies and Systems

The team had researched numerous studies to expand and gain insights and

knowledge about the business involving the Pickup and Delivery Service.

In this study, the researchers used all the gathered information to create a Pickup

and Delivery System for companies who offer laundry services that will help the laundry

owners to have a distanced transaction where they can use their gadgets or device to

sell their service to their customers.

Also having this study or concept will help the students or researchers to know if

the idea or the concepts they formulated already exist and for the professors or advisers

to have ideas about our system.

15
CHAPTER III

COST-BENEFIT ANALYSIS

FEASIBILITY STUDY

Technical Feasibility

The proposed Claim and Courier, in other terms Pickup and Delivery consist of one

computer, it is linked to a database retrieving or sending data from a single computer

unit, as well as serving as a server. Windows 10 Professional will be used as the

computer’s system. It is important to have uninterruptible power supply (UPS) will be

provided because the shop will decide to provide the equipment and for emergency that

the power supply was disconnected.

Operational Feasibility

The proposed Claim and Courier, or in other terms, Pick-up and Delivery allows

customers to easily and conveniently avail laundry services, pick up and deliver using a

distance transaction. During its process, the system will also help the laundry owners to

track the delivery to ensure accuracy and quality of service. By accessing the website,

customers will receive information in the website’s dashboard to choose their desired

service option so that they have an initial expectation that a company should meet.

16
Economic Feasibility

The involved proponents of this study can justify that the Pickup and Delivery System

for Laundry Businesses is economically feasible because laundry chore is time

consuming activity and one of the leading sources of stress in certain parts of the world

as we find out in our Review of Related Literature. To formulate and continuous

development of this study, creates an increase in demand of people going to the

nearest laundry service provider who implement this system as they find it a more

convenient and good alternative option than doing the laundry chore on their own.
