Food Angel: A Sustainable Solution to Food Waste in Hong Kong
What got Gigi started? What qualities/characteristics of Gigi helped her achieve (or partially
achieve) her vision?
 Food Angel is a Hong Kong-based humanitarian organization that recycles food waste
into cooked meals for the city's poorest residents and visitors.
 Established by Gigi Tung, Food Angel has grown into a thriving organization with over
200 paid employees and 20,000 volunteers who handle over 10,000 meals and 200 food
parcels per day. Food Angel is a registered charity in the United Kingdom.
 Gigi is confident in the effectiveness of her leadership and philosophical approach.
However, as the nonprofit grows, she hopes to develop leaders from inside the
organization in the future.

Who are the key stakeholders in this case? What are the key concerns of these
stakeholders?
 Critical stakeholders in the case are the employees of NGOs and funders. Their main
concern is a CSR cause to provide food to the needy peoples.
 The Lee Hysan Foundation was the source of Gigi's first business donation, which she
gratefully accepted. Many other charity organizations in Hong Kong were also supported
by the foundation, which a private family organization established. The Food Angel
initiative continues to get assistance from the corporation annually.

 The Hong Kong Jockey Club, philanthropic organizations, and financial institutions such
as HSBC donated half of Food Angel's funding, with the remaining half coming from
benevolent individuals and organizations.
 A total of 60 sponsors and supporting partners delivered cash and gifts charity to help
needy people
 Food safety is also a key concern to the stakeholders
What did Gigi do to manage stakeholder concerns? Do you agree? Can it be improved?
 The achievement of international food standards and high food hygiene standards was
critical from the beginning for Gigi. She obtained all of the necessary licenses from Hong
Kong's Food and Hygiene Department and worked hard to reach international food safety
requirements.
 Using the ISO 22000 international food management system, the charity can prevent food
safety infractions in the future. As an extra precaution, meals were sent to a laboratory for
testing daily.
 A typical day for Gigi consisted of dedicating 30 per cent of her time to operating the
program. In addition, she served meals to service members and oversaw the preparation
of food boxes in the kitchen of the charitable organization for which she worked.
 Activities such as these allowed her to inspect the quality of the meals and food donations
she received while also interacting with the people she serves. These are the proper action

What are your takeaways from Gigi's involvement in a social initiative?

 People who want to do good in the world, just like Gigi, not just make money, tend to
stay with socially aware businesses. There is a lot of power in numbers when it comes
to big companies, where the collective efforts of all employees can make a big
difference, which can improve morale and productivity.
 Positive brand awareness, customer loyalty, and high-quality employees benefit
businesses that do-good things for the world. These are essential items for long-term
financial success and making more money.

 Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a critical component of good corporate
citizenship. Your organization can benefit from implementing.
 Analyze your relationships with suppliers and third-party contractors to discover how
effectively they mesh with one another.
 It's a good idea to research potential vendors to find out more about their business
practices.
 Make the prudent choice of seeking out suggestions on becoming more involved in your
community. As a result of the likelihood that your staff have a wealth of knowledge to
share, companies that place a high value on corporate citizenship tend to endure.
 Focusing on global consciousness and social responsibility can have a positive impact on
your business as well as the community.
 Being a decent corporate citizen is ideal for establishing a favourable brand image that
