Maximo Aljibe, to our innovative and avantgarde President, Mr. Rhett Cezar L. Piczon, to
the young, vibrant and succor school administrator Miss Manuellilda Rosario A. Torrevillas,
to our pro-active Senior Vice president for academic programs, Dr. Pedrito G. Padilla, to
the inch perfect and veritable Deans of different colleges, Samar Colleges faculty and staff,
teachers, spectators, friends, ladies and gentlemen, my fellow graduands. Again, a
pleasant and glorious afternoon and welcome to the Samar Colleges Incorporated’s 73rd
Commencement Exercises.
Graduation day is, without a doubt, a significant and unforgettable time in the lives of
every student. It's the pinnacle of his achievement, the result of his sweat and blood, as
well as countless sleepless hours of anticipation and preparation for life's everyday trials. It
is an achievement that comes from within, not from any other third-party sources. It
denotes success, and maturity, the ability to overcome numerous hurdles and achieve an
unimaginable objective.
Today is an introduction to a larger arena of life, one with greater challenges ahead, larger
ponds to conquer, and larger fish to fight. As a result, we've arrived here today as
graduates, waiting to be recognized as a fully prepared graduate whose knowledge and
experiences have declared our responsibility and capability of navigating in today’s world
of technology and global competence.
The knowledge we have gained over the years in this institution in many ways may have
been sufficient to arm us with the most basic of weaponry to enable us to survive as
working adults. The principles, values and attitudes developed in us have completely
transformed us, and have played an important role in our growth and journey as
intelligent individuals.
We can truly declare that our long and laborious road has produced its fruit of maturity
now that we are equipped with the basic necessities of mental, physical, and emotional
development. However, as sincere searchers of truth and defenders of knowledge, we
must acknowledge that our thirst for information and understanding of the world is not yet
satisfied. As a result, we must resist the temptation to become complacent. Let us not be
contented with the basic knowledge we obtained during our years as students. We must
learn to conquer new realms and enter a larger arena-the arena of truth and confronting
life itself.
Our graduation day is not the conclusion, but a new beginning as we marched out into the
wider world and flung away our toga as valuable memories. As we accept this, we are
provided with new options and tens of thousands of possibilities for what we can become
in the future. And, while most of us are already planning all of the pleasant and significant
things we can accomplish in the future, let us take a few seconds to relish this present.
Pause a little and think back through all the times and all the things that became a catalyst
to transform us into who we are now. Let us give time to pat ourselves in the back for the
work well done, for the efforts of making it far into this stage of learning. And remember
the words of the famous nobel prize-winning author Anatole France who wrote: To
accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also
believe. So fellow graduands, as we continue our journey, let’s dream more, believe, plan
and act. So good luck to all of us and thank you to all the people who helped us reach this
level, especially our parents, professors, instructors, relatives and friends. So once again,
good luck, and congratulations!
