3.0 MAINTENANCE AND OPERATING HOURS Fax: +49/(0)9429-8432
[email protected]
3.1 Overhaul
Variable pitch propellers require overhauls at specified times. Defined as time between
overhaul (TBO).
TBO is scheduled overhaul time set forth to maintain continued airworthiness.
Note:
In case of a blade damage by a foreign object or ground strike with a rotating
propeller, an overhaul is always required if the blade damage is beyond the limitation
of an in-field repair.
A none-rotating propeller FOD does not require an overhaul, it only needs a blade
repair or a blade exchange.
A blade damage with a none-rotating propeller cannot damage the propeller hub and
therefore does not require an overhaul.
The time between overhaul (TBO) is based on operating and calendar time since manu-
facture or since the last overhaul. Times have been specified in Service Bulletin No. 1 (latest
Revision).
During overhaul the propeller will be entirely disassembled and checked for wear, damage,
cracks and corrosion.
Then the propeller will be assembled again, lubricated an balanced. Modifications or in-
spections required by the Service Bulletin have to be executed.
3.2 Repair
3.3 Life
Life is defined as total operating time, i.e. operating hours since new (TT = total time or TSN
= time since new).
The total operating time since manufacture is abbreviated (time since new) TSN.
The operating time since the last overhaul is abbreviated (time since overhaul) TSO.
The maximum life of a propeller or certain parts of it will be specified later and be published
in a Service Bulletin. This section also comprises a list of the parts concerned.
An overhaul does not reduce the total operating time of the propeller (TT or TSN) to zero.
Only the time since overhaul (TSO) will be set to zero. Any operating time has to be
recorded under the hub serial number (= propeller serial number) file.
Presently there are no life limited parts in MT-Propellers, in case that any life limits are
issued, these are specified in the ALS section of this Manual.

Presently there are no life limited parts in MT-Propellers, in case that any life limits are
issued, these are specified in the ALS section of this Manual.
MT-Propeller O-Rings for standard propellers type C-( )-( ) have a shelf life of 5 years after
manufacture.
After 5 years storage, a visual inspection must be performed.
In case of a positive result the shelf life of the O-Rings can be extended by another 2 years,
to a total shelf life since manufacturing of 7 years.
To reach the above listed shelf life the O-rings must be stored in an industrial atmosphere at
a temperature between + 5° up to + 20° C (+ 41° F up to 68° F).
and a relative humidity between 30% - 70%.
Additionally the O-Rings must be stored protected from light, oxygen, ozone etc. according
to DIN 7716.

The forged and/or milled hub is made of aluminum alloy. The servo piston has been incorporated
in the hub end, which has been designed as a cylinder. The blade bearings are detachable ball
journal bearings with a split inner ring. The blades are designed in natural-composite construction
using wood and epoxy fiberglass with a metal edge protection. The colored acrylic finish serves
as an excellent surface protection.
5.2 Functioning
MTV-( )-( ) are hydraulically variable pitch propellers with a single-acting piston which is provided
with oil by a single-acting propeller governor via the crankshaft. The oil pressure of the governor
is decreasing the blade angle against the force of a return spring and against the return force
(from the centrifugal force moments) being induced by the counterweights.
The MTV-() hydraulically variable pitch propeller, used on the Walter Turbine, has a dual acting
piston which is provided with oil by a dual acting governor. The oil pressure of the governor is
decreasing the blade angle against the return force (from the centrifugal force moments) being
inducted by the counterweights. In case of feathering the governor acts as a dual acting system
and is traveling the blades together with the counterweights to feather.
The propeller servo consists of piston, guide rod and guide pieces which initiate a change of
blade angle via the pitch change pins in the blade ferrules. Two check nuts allow adjustment of
the feathering of the blades. Feathering can be set without disassembling the propeller. With the
Walter Reverse System all propeller pitch stops are internal, therefore without opening the hub no
adjustment is possible.
The hydraulic low pitch stop, which prevents the blade pitch from entering the reverse range
unless desired, consists of a “beta”-valve which stops the governor oil to the propeller when the
pitch reaches the low pitch position. How to adjust the low pitch stop: refer to manual E-610 (ATA
61-06-10) or E-1083 (ATA 61-00-83) or E-1922 (ATA 61-09-22).
The mechanical reverse stop is determined by the length of the spring guide or plastic stop.
If a change of the mechanical reverse stop is required, the front plate must be removed for
trimming the spring guide. On the Walter Reverse System additionally to the front plate the
complete internal pitch change parts must be removed to have access to the reverse stop.
For additional information concerning the governing system, please refer to the applicable
operation manual of the turbine and /or governor manufacturer.

6.3 Preparation
Care for a clean depositing device and clean containers for the demounted parts. Provide
separate containers for those parts belonging to the blades (blade bearings, balls, separators,
outer ball race, inner ball race, pre-load shims, pitch change blocks, retaining rings) and mark
them in accordance with the blade number (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 these numbers are stamped onto the
hub).
Mark the assembly position of the spinner support plate as well as the front cover toward the hub.
Note the distance between the check nuts and end of guide rod, if applicable.
WARNING
Only products and material listed in this Manual are approved for use with the
prescribed propeller systems.
Products and material of manufacturers other than those listed in this Manual that the
user may desire to use as replacement of approved products and material should first
be referred to the MT-Propeller Service Department for evaluation.
Use of product not approved by MT-Propeller could result in improper maintenance and
damage to equipment.
We recommend to note reverse, low and feather setting of the blades before disassembling.
Note:
Radius for blade angle check from hub center, 75 % blade radius.
Check track of the blades. If the tolerance is beyond the permitted range (0,12 inch max.) take
expert advice. Check for general appearance.
Refer also to Manual E-610 (ATA 61-06-10), E-1083 (ATA 61-00-83) or E-1922 (ATA 61-09-22).
The angle of incidence of the counterweights being mounted at the blade ferrules has to be
measured with the blades in "reverse" position.

6.4.1 Remove counterweights from the blade roots.
6.4.4 For PT6A-Propellers remove the cover caps, spring guide and the preload springs for the
beta ring.
Measure the distance of the stop nuts to the end of the beta rod, because this is the low pitch
stop. Note it, that the same distance can be set during assembling. Screw out the stop nuts of
the hydraulically low pitch stop.
For the Walter Reverse System remove the overspeed valve from the pitch change cylinder.
6.4.6 For pistons with front piece, piston extension and piston guide rod:
Detach the screws (junction of front piece, piston extension, piston) and remove them.
Remove front piece (mark position in relation to the piston) and the guide blocks. Turn the
blades to a favorable position and remove pitch change blocks from the pins. Remove

6.4.7 Blade 1 shall show downwards (marking at the hub). Protect the blade shaft and the blade
ferrule by a rubber band fix it with tape. This is important to avoid damage of the surface of the
shaft and the ferrule.
Remove the snap ring from the slot by means of a suitable plieve. Push the blade slightly into
the hub (manually) and turn it carefully to allow lifting out the balls and the separators. Do not
damage the hub and the blade ferrule. The other blades shall be disassembled the same way.
If blades are not already removed, loose the nut of the clamp bolt / counterweight bolt.
Turn out blade.
Remove safety plates on the pre-load nut and turn off pre-load nut and remove pre-load shim.
Push blade ferrule slightly into the hub (manually) and turn it carefully to allow liftening out the
balls and the separators.
Disassemble the other blades the same way.
6.4.8 Pull the piston through the hub opening. (all models except for the Walter System)
Note:
For easier removal, air must be able to flow into the cylinder for not getting a vacuum. Remove
O-Ring, PTFE backup and PTFE guide ring (MTV-5-1-( )-R(A), MTV-27-1-( )-R(G)) from the
piston.
Demount piston guide rod from the piston. Guide rod is secured with the piston (with CM No.
13 (see Consumables)). Remove O-Ring from the guide rod.
For PT6-Applications:
Loosen the stop nuts of the beta rods and pull out the beta ring with beta rods. Disassembly
the beta rods and beta ring. The guide bushings of the beta rods in the hub must be removed
in any case. For assembly new guide bushings for the beta rods in the hub must be installed.
For Walter-Applications:
Remove the plastic stop between beta ring and hub flange surface and release by this way the
beta spring preload. Disconnect the Beta-Ring from Beta –Rods by unscrewing the stop nuts.
Remove Beta Rods and Beta Springs through the hub front opening.
The guide bushings for the Beta Rods in the hub must be removed, for assembly new guide
bushings must be used.
By loosing the retaining ring in the hub flange area, the guide rod can be removed. Remove all
remaining parts from the hub.
Attention:
Use an aluminum punch to remove the outer races
Do not damage the sealing area of hub.
If removal is very difficult, put the hub for 30 minutes at 80°C (176°F) into a ovenl
After that the bearings can be removed easily.

Punch the VA ring with appropriate tool out of the hub blade bore.
Attention:
Do not damage the hub during removal of the insert (VA ring), the hub is no longer
serviceable in case of damage!
6.4.11. On the
MTV-16-1-N-( )-(P) / MTV-27-1-N-( )-(P) and the MTV-27-2-( )-(P)
the pitch change cylinder must be removed from the propeller hub and the flange studs which
are pressed in. Use appropriate tool to turn out the pitch change cylinder of the hub.
Before you can turn the pitch change cylinder out, remove safety plug from the hub flange
side. Saftey plug was glued in by using CM No. 13 (see List of Consumables, chapter 16).
The safety plug has a thread of 4-40 UNC to install a screw and pull it out.
After the pitch change cylinder is removed press out the flange studs and pre-load ring.
6.4.12 Remove the remaining parts from the hub or from the blade ferrules respectively.

7.0 CLEANING
Any metal parts may be cleaned with a solvent cleaner (e.g. INDUREI 67 or similar). Observe that
the cleaner is neither attacking the metal surface nor corrosive.
Remove silicone sealing material (CM No. 14 -see Consumables) with Methylethyhketon (MEK)
by means of a brush (no metal bristles). Treat sealing surfaces and seats carefully while cleaning
to avoid any damages.
Remove CM No. 23 (see Consumables) from the bearing outer races by Plastic Media Blasting.
CAUTION !!!
No plastic media cleaning for the removal of anodized coatings on hub blade bearing
seats and hub O-ring cylinder surface or any other O-ring contact area!
No glass media cleaning is allowed on hub blade bearing seats and hub O-ring
cylinder surface!
Removal of material by glass media cleaning may lead to excessive wear and rough
surfaces resulting in O-ring wear and therefore internal leaking!
In case that above mentioned parts are erroneously glass media blasted just use sand
paper (start with grid 400 and finish with grid 1000) and polish the areas where the O-
ring will operate!
In case of doubt polish the hub cylinder area to have a smooth O-ring contact area!
The aluminum blade ferrules may be cleaned with a solvent cleaner e.g. INDUREI 67 or similar.
Clean the blades with water only.
7.3 General
After cleaning, protect the parts against contamination and dust. If the parts will be stored for a
longer period of time, use the common preservation procedures.

Each part subjected to further use with the concerned propeller, after overhaul has been
terminated, has to be inspected visually before the consecutive inspections in order to get
immediate findings with regard to excessive wear, visual cracks, corrosion, friction, grooves,
compression marks or notches to avoid needless work.
8.1.2 Propeller Hubs and Front Plates made from Aluminum shall be checked for cracks
according to a liquid penetrant examination as per EN ISO 3452-2 or ASTM E-1417 (latest
Revision) respectively, e.g. fluorescence method Zyglo ZL-2C/ZR-10A/ZP-4A.
Other propeller aluminum parts should only be visually inspected, however in case of doubts
also fluorescent penetrant inspected.
Certifying Staff will decide if necessary.
If necessary for the blade ferrule, it has to be removed before a liquid penetrant examination!
If not removed, all penetrant liquid will enter in the bore of the lag screws and balance bore!
When the blade ferrule is still installed on the blade, optionally the Eddy Current Method is
applicable!
Another approved method for crack inspection according to MIL-A-8625-( ) may be applied after
anodic treatment has been finished or apply TURCO "Dye Check").
8.1.3 Any parts made of Steel such as blade bearings etc. shall be checked for cracks according to
a magnetic particle examination per DIN EN ISO 9934-2 or ASTM E-1444 (latest Revision) as
fluorescent means or according to Mil-Std-1949 (latest Revision).
If magnetizing has been finished, demagnetize the parts according to the corresponding
demagnetizing procedures.
Parts made of steel may be checked for cracks by Penetrant Inspection either).
NO CRACKS ARE PERMITTED. In case of doubt replace the part by an airworthy one.
Counterweight Body Crack Inspection (Magnetic Particle Inspection) see on following page!

Remove all hardware (studs, pins, screws, steel inserts etc.) if applicable, as well as bearing
races, and perform crack inspection as described in section 8.1.2.
Check dimensions of cylinder surface diameter, blade bore diameter and diameter of
seating of blade bearing outer race. Allowable tolerances are listed in section 8.2.
Cylinder surface and seating of blade bearing outer race may be reworked within the a.m.
tolerances by polishing with sandpaper grain 220 (min.) and 400 finally. Do not remove more
material as absolutely necessary.
Wear of blade bore because of blade seal friction is normal and allowed up to the a.m.
tolerances. The sealing area must be reworked by MT – Propeller USA or MT – Propeller
Germany that the sealing-area-insert can be installed. If the hub has already the newest
modification for the sealing-area-insert, only a new insert must be installed during hub preparation
for final assembly.
The hub modification can only be carried out by MT – Propeller USA or MT – Propeller Germany.
The sealing-area-insert is fixed in the hub with CM No. 14 (see Consumables). Additionally to the
sealing-area-insert the blade seal C-057-() must be used.

After a ground strike with MT natural composite blades the hub is still airworthy if no obvious damage
can be found. In any case crack inspection and dimensional check must be performed for evaluation.
In case of doubt, send the damaged propeller hub and blades to the manufacturer for evaluation.
For a ground strike with MT-Aluminum blades, the instructions per Manual ATA 61-18-09 (E-809) must
be followed.

Remove any notches, grooves, scratches and corrosion from the metal parts by blending a well
rounded recess.
The removal of material is dependent on where the material has to be removed and on the
degree of surface damage- However, do not remove more than 0.5 mm of material on a
length/width of 10 mm.
The removal of the material is only permitted at areas where strength and fatigue life of the part
are not affected.
Fillers (such as epoxy etc.) may not be used to fill the damaged areas.
Leaking or damaged flange O-Ring seating may be repaired. Use MT-Propeller Repair Kit No.
R-001.
From April 2003 all hubs must be modified that the sealing-area-insert can be installed. This
modification must be done at MT - Propeller USA or MT – Propeller Germany. If a hub is
already modified only new sealing-area-inserts must be installed during hub preparation. See
also our Standard Practices Manual E-808 (ATA 61-18-08).
Pulled studs on D-Flanges could be repaired by using the oversize B-4916 (9/16”-18UNF)
studs. The required McCauley tooling and applicable procedures must be followed.
ATTENTION: NO WARRANTY CLAIM WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR SUCH A DAMAGE AND FURTHER REPAIR
Shot-penned parts require another shot peen process after repair has been finished. (Steel ball
S-390, intensity is of no importance, overlap degree 100 %, MIL-S-13165-B).
Aluminum surfaces have to be reanodized after repair has been finished. (Chromic Acid Method
according to MIL-A-8625-E, ASTM B117, Anod. Film according to MIL-C-5541). Before ano-
dizing aluminum parts, remove or cover any steel parts.

9.2 SPINNER
On principle, no cracks are permitted. However, if the spinner is made of aluminum, minor
dent depressions may be taken out. Rivet nuts may be replaced.
FRP spinners may be repaired if the repair does not initiate unbalances inside the laminate
which would lead to destruction of the spinner during operation.

10.1 During overhaul, the following parts have to be replaced by genuine parts (overhaul kit):
- all gaskets (for cure date of gaskets and O-Rings see Service Letter 27, latest Revision),
- all standard parts such as screws, washers, pins and snap rings
- all bearing balls and separators, any guide pieces
- guide bushings of the beta rod in the hub for PT6A-Applications
- sealing-area-insert
- all pitch change blocks
- return springs (inner and outer) for feathering.
10.3 Until further advice, only original parts delivered by the manufacturer are permitted for
replacement.
For the described types of propellers a TBO (Time Between Overhaul) Development Programm
has been established by our approved EASA design organization to increase the TBO hour limit
as determined in Service Bulletin 1( ).
Such inspections require the reuse of any parts, except for gaskets, screws, washers and
locking washers if they are still airworthy. If the reuse of parts is not possible due to wear or
cracks, please inform the manufacturer immediately.
10.5 If a Service Bulletin requires the replacement of certain parts they have to be replaced during
overhaul. Comply with any service recommendation even if it is not mandatory.

WARNING
Seals ( part number c - ( ) - ( ) ) listed in this manual are approved for use with the
prescribed propeller systems. patented manufacturing processes were applied to these
seals to reduce the friction in the pitch change mechanism.
Seals of other manufacturers that the user may desire to use as replacement part should
first be referred to mt - propeller service department for evaluation. with seals other than
those listed in this manual the friction is too high and the pitch change behavior is
affected badly, therefore this may result in improper maintenance and damage to the
equipment.
11.1 Preparation
11.1.1 The parts necessary for assembly as well as the entire technical documentation have to be
available. (Parts lists, assembly drawings).
Keep the working space clean and free from material not necessary for assembly.
11.1.2 Grease CM No. 16 (see Consumables) and engine oil CM No. 24 (see Consumables) have to
be available.
11.1.3 Install sealing-area-insert A-865-(), A-866-(), A-867-() and for MTV-27-2-() A-1543() into the
hub using CM No. 14 and appropriate tool.
For more detailed information see also our Standard Practices Manual E-808 (ATA 61-18-08).
CAUTION: IN CASE THE NEW BLADE SEAL C-057-() WILL BE USED WITHOUT THE SEALING-AREA-
INSERT IN THE HUB, THE BLADE FRICTION MAY BE TOO HIGH, RESULTING IN EXCESSIVE
WEAR IN THE SEALING AREA, CAUSING GREASE LEAKAGE.
Install the outer races into the hub blade bearing seating as follows:
Treat the blade bearing with CM No. 23 (see Consumables). Grease the hub blade bearing
seating with CM No. 16 (see List of Consumables).
Use Tools T-169 (MTV-25), T-170 (MTV-5),
T-171 (MTV-9, -16, -27) or T-171-2 (MTV-27-2-() ) to increase the pre-load until the Epoxy
Patch is dry. Finally check the slot by means of a thickness gauge. A max. slot of 0.05 mm
(0.002 in) is permitted. Wipe the excess adhesive from the outer bearing race and the blade
bearing seating in the hub.
CAUTION: CM NO. 23 (SEE CONSUMABLES) MUST BE APPLIED TO THE BLADE BEARING, TO FILL
IN ANY VOIDS BETWEEN THE HUB BLADE BEARING SEATING AND THE BEARING OUTER
RACE. INCORRECT INSTALLED OUTER RACES WILL CAUSE IMPROPER FIT AND
PREMATURE BEARING FAILURE.

Press in the hub from the flange side the new guide bushings for the beta-rods. Check low
friction movement of the beta rods in the guide bushings.
The small diameter bushing must be reworked with a driller diameter 6,3 mm (0.248 inch) and
the big diameter bushing must be reworked with a reamer diameter 9.1 mm (0,358 inch) after
they are pressed in the hub. After the rework a free and easy movement should be possible
without play.
Attention: In case high friction is between the beta rods and guide bushings
reverse mode will not be working properly, therefore the propeller is not
in an airworthy condition.
On propeller MTV-16-1-N-( )-(P), MTV-27-1-N-( )-(P) and MTV-27-2-N-( )-(P) the flange studs
must be pressed in.
Press flange studs / preload ring with oil into propeller hub on a press.
Attention: Check for tight seat!
Install cylinder guide ring C-276-X and screw in pitch change cylinder with oil.
Use tool T-715-A for this task.

for corrosion protection before assembly.
11.2.1 For piston with piston extension, front piece and guide rod. Put O-Ring onto the piston
guide rod. Slightly put oil on the O-Ring. Screw the piston guide rod in the piston
and secure it with CM No. 13 (see Consumables). Take care for exact seat.
11.2.2 Provide the piston with a new PTFE back up ring, PTFE guide ring (MTV-5-1-( )-R(A), MTV-
27-1-( )-R(G)) and a new O-Ring. Grease the O- and the PTFE-rings slightly (PTFE back up
ring on the antitrust side).
Attention:
The PTFE back up ring shall be first trimmed to the diameter of the hub bore a t the
operating range of the piston.
Insert the lubricated pistons into the lubricated hub bore and slip it in entirely.
Attention:
Do not damage O-Ring PTFE back up ring and PTFE guide ring.
11.2.4 Only insert blade No. 1 into blade support No. 1 so that balls and separators (number
according to diameter, Part List (Sec. 16) can be inserted. Grease the bearings well with CM
No. 16 (see List of Consumables).
MT-Turbo-Prop-Propellers with a propeller diameter bigger than 230 cm (90,6 inch) must be
assembled only with C-057-( )-(R) propeller blade seals.
( R = Repair O-Ring with higher preload).
WARNING: DO NOT DAMAGE THE BLADE C-057-() DURING INSTALLATION OF THE BLADE. IF
NECESSARY, USE A BRASS SHEET TO GUIDE THE BLADE SEAL
C-057-() INTO THE HUB BLADE BORE.
Note:
Balls and separators can be easily inserted if you have them stuck to each other by means
of a little bit of grease. Check correct number (see Parts List (Sec. 16). This can be done
easily if you mark the first one of the separators with a felt-tip pen.
For blade pre-load adjustment, select a slotted pre-load ring of suitable size so that the blade
ferrule is free from play after the snap ring has been mounted and a torque of
14 - 18 Nm for models MTV-9, MTV-16, MTV-27
10 - 14 Nm for models MTV-5
6 - 10 Nm for models MTV-25
is needed to turn the blade. The pre-load ring is slightly lubricated with grease, CM No. 16,
(see List of Consumables) before installation.
The other blades shall be mounted into the hub the same way.

reverse and/or feather position due to higher friction, which is not acceptable!
Optionally the old brown colored preload rings can be further used if they are already
installed!
Important:
The chamfer of the preload ring must always be orientated towards the hub!
Install blade bushing No. 1 for blade No. 1 in hub that balls and separators can be inserted
(correct number according to diameter, Parts List at Section 16).
Grease bearings well with CM No. 16 (see List of Consumables).
WARNING:
DO NOT DAMAGE THE BLADE C-057-() DURING INSTALLATION OF THE BLADE. IF
NECESSARY, USE A BRASS SHEET TO GUIDE THE BLADE SEAL C-057-() INTO THE HUB

For Walter Applications: to be continued: [email protected]
Piston guide rod and front cover or front piece and front cover, if applicable, shall be
mounted provisionally to check the free movement of the pitch change parts and the blade
pitch deviations between the blades, if any. A deviation of ± 0.2° is permitted. Larger
deviations can be compensated by turning the asymmetric pitch change blocks. 0.15 mm out
of center deviation of the block bore correspond to 0.3 degrees of blade pitch deviation.
Check blade pitch deviation and blade track at low pitch. 3 mm of blade track deviation at the
blade trailing edge at a distance of 10 cm from the blade tip are permitted.
Remove the previously mounted front cover and remove the fixing screw of the guide
rod/front piece.
Use new fixing bolts to connect the guide rod/front piece to the piston and piston extension.
Cover the thread with permanent elastic locking material CM No. 13 (see Consumables) and
tighten according to table values.
Grease the spring guide CM No. 16 (see List of Consumables) and insert it. If a new part is
used check the correct length of the spring guide because the spring guide serves the
mechanical full reverse stop.
To adjust the full reverse stop by changing the length of the spring guide:
Shorter spring guide higher reverse blade angle
Longer spring guide lower reverse blade angle
Changing the length of the spring guide or pitch stops results for the propellers
MTV-9, MTV-16, MTV-27 0,3 mm 1 °
MTV-5, 0,2 mm 1 °
MTV-25 0,1 mm 1 °
The above mentioned values are approximately, therefore change the length on a lathe step
by step to avoid that the spring guide is to short.

WARNING: The stop nuts must have the same setting to each other, otherwise the
pitch change mechanism will be damaged.
Insert the spring or springs and the preload plastic plates according to drawing and parts list.
Bolt on front cover and spinner front plate. Use the appropriate tool T-372 to preload the
front plate.
Do not apply any sealing material CM No. 14 (see Consumables) between the
contacting surfaces of hub and front cover. Check correct position of the spinner front plate
(essential for spinner assembly).
WARNING: Do not turn the guide rod during adjustment of the high pitch / feathering
stop. Otherwise the propeller has an internal leakage and is not in a
airworthy condition.
Check feathering.
If blade pitch is correct, secure the two check nuts and the cover screws.
11.2.10 Correct propeller unbalance statically. The residual unbalance shall not exceed 2 gm.
Use AN970-3 washers as balancing weights to be mounted at the spinner front plate (not
more than 8 washers in one correction point).
Seal the slot between front cover and hub from outside with CM No. 14 (see
Consumables). Final inspection according to item 15.
Replace O-Ring in the hub flange bore by a new one.
Do this after the complete hub with parts like screws, check nuts, front plate is assembled.
Adjust feathering stop with the check nuts, if feathering is correct,
counter the check nuts (see item 12.0). Check feathering again, if it is correct, secure the
two check nuts and the cover screws.

Before assembly the counterweights must be painted with Sherwin-Williams gray Polane or
similar paint.
Propeller is prepared for static balancing. Set blade to full reverse, blade on which coun-
terweight is to be mounted is showing vertically upwards. Place counterweight around the
ferrule and clamp slightly. Do not forget washers in the rift at the two screws at the front. No
washer at the backward screw. Use new screws. Apply CM No. 13 (see Consumables) to the
threads of the skt. head cap screw. If counterweights with stopnuts are used, no CM No.13 (see
Consumables) is used on the thread. If new blade ferrules, or new blades are used, position
surface parallel to the rift to the value defined in the inspection check off record relative to
horizontal level (blade shows horizontally sidewards).
First tighten screws at the front, then the backward one. Before using the recommended torque,
check position of counterweights once again. If the previous blades and/or counterweights are
used, position is given by the rollpins. If necessary, drill holes for rollpins into the ferrule (diam. 5
mm, 3 mm deep). Insert rollpins.

After ventilation, the bonding surface has to be coated with CM No. 31.
The bonding surface on the blade has to be marked with a distance of 1cm and masked with a
tape. The varnish has to be roughened with abrasive paper (grain 220) and cleaned with CM
No. 29.
Once more, the de-ice boot has to be coated thinly with ‘CM No. 31.
The blade also has to be coated thinly with CM No. 31
Once again, a resistance measurement has to be carried out on electrical de-ice boots by using
a gauge (multimeter).
After 8-12 hours of drying sealer CM No. 32 has to be brought on to 75% of the de-ice boot-
circumference (beginning at the blade shank). Spreading with finger, if necessary. After it has
become dust-dry (approx. 10min.) overlapping bonding surface must be covered with black
varnish. The sealer may also be overpainted if necessary.
Finally seal transition from the boot to the blade ferrule with CM No. 14 or equivalent and fix
with ty-raps.(see Fig. 6 counterweighted propellers).
On counterweighted propellers de-ice cables are additionally bonded to the blade ferrule by
using CM No. 19 and after that the cables are sealed with CM No. 14 and fixed with screws to
the terminal on the counterweights.

13.0 FINAL INSPECTION
Blade pitch shall be set in accordance with the instructions of the propeller and aircraft
manufacturers. Setting tolerance at "low pitch is ± 0.2° and ± 1° at high pitch and reverse.
Additionally to the blade angle reference station the blade pitch must be measured
1 cm (0,4 inch) from the blade tip. Tolerance between all blades must be within 0,5°.
If it is necessary the blade reference station can be readjusted to bring the blade tip within
0,5 degrees. Maximum tolerance between all blades and stations is 0,5°.
13.6 Unbalance
Max. static unbalance is 2 gm with the blades at low pitch stop or full reverse.
Additionally install MT-PL-012 (WARNING) on the Front Plate or Spinner Front Plate.

15.1 Considering that overhaul will be executed in an authorized propeller service station, no special
tools are necessary, except for the following:
15.2 If the repair shop is not specialized on propeller overhaul the following installations are required
in addition to the tools mentioned under 15.1:
Note: If desired, the manufacturer will set up the entire shop installation to avoid any

16.1 For any shipment of the propeller use original container. If this is impossible it will be very
important to fix the propeller at the inner portion of the blades and the hub, if necessary, in
a manner that avoids damage.
16.2 If the propeller is stored for a longer period of time, preferably use the original container or
an equivalent one. Storage only in a controlled environment (temperature - 5°F to 95°F, rel.
humidity 10 % to 75 %). Avoid extreme temperature/humidity differences or cycles. All
metal surfaces should have anti-corrosion protection which is easy to remove. There is no
need to protect the blades because its lacquer is sufficient.
16.3 The TBO starts immediately after the initial installation of the propeller to the aircraft and
will not be interrupted by removals later on.
16.4 If the propeller is stored for longer than 24 months it has to be dismounted before installing
to the aircraft and all seals have to be replaced. This will bring calendar time TBO back to
zero.
16.5 Long-term storage could require additional preservation. All standard anti-corrosive
preservation oils may be used if they do not affect the seals. Only metal parts have to be
protected. The wood-composite blades need no special protection but mechanical damage
has to be avoided, so that no moisture may enter the wooden blade core.
16.6 If the propeller is stored or transported in corrosive environment such as salt water or fog, it
is recommendable to cover the visible outside surfaces of the metal parts with a thin film of
light engine oil.
16.7 If the propeller is delivered in a wooden shipping box, the shipping box must be opened
after receipt. By opening the shipping box it is ensured that the chemically treated wood of
the shipping box does not create any corrosion on the metal parts of the propeller due to
chemicals used to treat the wooden shipping box.

Examine the exterior of the shipping container for signs of shipping damage, especially at
the box ends around each blade. A hole, tear or crushed appearance at the end of the
box (at the propeller tips) may indicate the propeller was dropped during shipment,
possibly damaging the blades.
After removing the propeller from the shipping container, examine the propeller
components for shipping damage.
16.9 Uncrating:
CAUTION:
Put the propeller on a padded support that supports the entire length of the propeller.
Remove the plastic dust cover cup from the propeller mounting flange, if installed.
16.10 Lifting
For lifting, take the propeller as near as possible on the blade ferrule.
Do not take the propeller at any other area, especially on the blade tip or the spinner
backplate.
