Steady-Static Thermal Analysis Using Ansys: A Project Report On

The document describes performing a steady-static thermal analysis of a PV solar model using ANSYS. It involves importing the CAD model into ANSYS, defining the material properties, applying temperature boundary conditions like heat flux and convection, and obtaining the results for maximum and minimum temperatures on the surface and within the body. The analysis will help determine the thermal response and behavior of the PV solar system.

ABSTRACT

The main aim of this project is to analyse and get the results of
steady-static thermal analysis of PV solar in ANSYS. Steady-static
thermal analysis of PV solar is realized and Total heat fluc, Surface
temperature of the pv solar, body temperature of the pv solar and
required optimization locations are determined via ANSYS
Workbench software. The obtained results are given in the form of the
graphics and solutions.

INTRODUCTION
1.1 INTRODUCTION TO PV SOLAR
The process of converting light (photons) to electricity (voltage) is called the
solar photovoltaic (PV) effect. Photovoltaic solar cells convert sunlight directly
into solar power (electricity). They use thin layers of semi-conducting material
that is charged differently between the top and bottom layers.

(Fig 1: PV SOLAR)

A photovoltaic system, also PV system or solar power system, is an electric

power system designed to supply usable solar power by means of
photovoltaics.

Photovoltaic systems generally consist of six individual components: the solar

PV array, a charge controller, a battery bank, an inverter, a utility meter, and an
electric grid.

6
1.2 WORKINGPRINCIPLE

The PV SOLAR works on the principal of Conversion of light energy in

electrical energy is based on a phenomenon called photovoltaic effect. When
semiconductor materials are exposed to light, the some of the photons of light
ray are absorbed by the semiconductor crystal which causes a significant
number of free electrons in the crystal. This is the basic reason for producing
electricity due to photovoltaic effect. Photovoltaic cell is the basic unit of the
system where the photovoltaic effect is utilised to produce electricity from
light energy. Silicon is the most widely used semiconductor material for
constructing the photovoltaic cell.

1.3 PROCESS

The process to determine the response or behaviour of a PV Solar is to apply

temperature, convection and heat flux to the model and to get the results of
total Heat flux, temperature of surface and temperature of body values of max
and minimum by virtually simulation using ANSYSworkbench.

grabcad or any other 3D model files website and import the model in ANSYS
workbench.

3ANALYSY

3.1 INTRODUTION TO ANSYSSOFTWARE

Ansys Workbench is a general-purpose Finite Element

Analysis (FEA) software that is widely used in the Industry and Academia to
solve many different engineering problems through a virtual simulation of the
Engineering Designs underconsideration.
Ansys Workbench is applied to virtual simulate the product operating
conditions and helps us to understand its behavior and helps us achieve very
good design through simulation and optimization even before the product has
been manufactured.,Using Ansys Workbench software we can Simulate
problems from Different fields such as Structural, Vibrations, Heat transfer,
Fluid Flows, and many more types.

3.2 STEADY-STATIC THERMAL

The process to determine the response or behaviour of a structure under some

specified loads or combinations of loads is known as structural analysis.
Response means to find out support reactions, bending moment, rotation,
stresses, strains, shear force, and deflection that, the particular memberwould
undergo due to the application of different types of loads. Static structural
analysis is used in cases the effect of steady (or static) loading conditions on a
structure, not varying with time and not considering inertia effects.

(Fig 3: STEADY-STATIC THERMAL WORKBENCH)

9
The Steady-state thermal analysis is evaluating the thermal equilibrium of a
system in which the temperature remains constant over time. In other words,
steady-state thermal analysis involves assessing the equilibrium state of a
system subject to constant heat loads and environmental conditions.

3.2 .1 ENGINEERING DATA

ANSYS Workbench has its own library of engineering materials with their
corresponding material properties built in. for this ANALSYS we choosen
Alluminium Aloy , Glass, PVC and PV cells and it's built in properties.

1. Go to the "Engineering Data" Tab....

2. Click "Add" to add a new data source, and then with "Library File"
highlighted, click "Browse" to find the requiredmaterial.
3. Click open to select your saved file, then hit "OK" to add this datasource.

(Fig 4: ENGINEERING DATA)

10
3.2 .2 GEOMETRY

1. In the ANSYS Workbench,double-click the Geometry cell in the steady-

static thermal analysis system.
2. Click on design modular for design
3. Click on import geometry for Import the STP file.
4. Close ANSYS Design Modeler....
5. View the files generated by ANSYS Workbench.

(Fig 5: STATIC STRUCTURAL WORKBENCH)

3.2 .3 MODEL
ANSYS mechanical modeller is where we are going to set up the model for the
problem we are going to solve. This modeller is common in all of the analysis
systems provided by ANSYS. A point to note is that the options inside this
mechanical modeller vary between the analysis systems.

CHAPTER
CONCLUSIN
In this project , learn about how to do steady-static thermal analysis of PV Solar
using ANSYS workbench , The process to determine the response or behaviour
of a structure under certain temperature to the model and to get the results of
total heat flux acting on the body, temperature of the surface and temperature
of the body values of max and minimum. This results help to identify weak
areas of the pv solar. Based on steady-static thermal analysis, we recommend to
buy panels with high concentrated photovoltaic and always clean the surface of
solar panel for high efficient work.
