FOOD ORDERING CATERING DEPARTMENT PROCESS

ABSTRACT

The project entitled as “Food Ordering and Catering Department Process” is designed to develop
the application package for well secured dynamic application. This package is originated using front
end as ASP.NET, coding C# with SQL Server as back end tool.

This online application enables the customers to register online, select the food from the e-menu
card, read the E-menu card and order food online by just selecting the food that the customer want to
have. The results after selecting the food from the E-menu card will directly appear in the screen
near the Chef who is going to cook the food for you. By using this application the work of the
Waiter is reduced and we can also say that the work is nullified.

The benefit of this is that if there is rush in the Catering services then there will be chances that the
waiters may be unavailable and the customers can directly order the food to the chef online by using
this application. The customer will be given a username and a password, by using that every time
user wants to logs in. This implies that the customer is the regular customer of the Catering services.

It is very difficult to do this process manually. Hence it is recommended to computerize the process
by developing the relative software as the world is turning into information and technology;
computerization becomes necessity in all walks of life.

Benefits of this system includes convenience for the customer to place his/her order. Customer can
order the food from his place itself. There won't be any more discrepancies in ordering the food if
this system is implemented. The system is user friendly and very much flexible to all the customers.
This system gives an amazing way to develop the food ordering method with ease.

The system provides an attractive and easy to handle user interface which follows web application.
Considerations have been given at the design and development stages of the package in order to
ensure data integrity and security. It is highly user friendly.

Module Description:

Web site creation

Customer visits the website for ordering a food. It shows a list of details such as user registration,
user login, food item, selected food item, acknowledgment and report.

Customer registration

Users have to register their basic details such as customer ID, customer name, mobile number , mail
id, password, age, DOB and address etc.

Customer login

Customer can now login once the registration process is completed. Users have to login and order a
food. Every time when customer wants to order a food, he/she should login and order a food.

Food Item master

It shows a list of foods available in the catering services. It includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, etc.
Item master includes item ID, type, category, major item, other items, total cost and advance.

Select food item

Customer can select a food from the list of items provided in the screen. Customer can view the
details like amount for each food and total amount for ordered food, etc. Food can be selected based
on category and type such as breakfast lunch or dinner.
Acknowledgment

After ordered a food, acknowledgement will be sent to registered mail of the customers. Customer
can view the acknowledgement in the mail.

Report

Report of the customer request can be tracked and customers orders can be tracked through this
system. The status of the food order can be tracked in this module.

Existing System:

The current System of a company is very ancient and need to be replacing as companies business is
expanding. One of the biggest disadvantages of the current system is that lacking of computerized
food order each time a customer need to order food he has to wait for the waiter to take their order
and then give to the chef who will be preparing our food. So this process is very time consuming and
very ancient. This is very difficult to manage. And there also situations where the customers confuses
the order and gives food to wrong customer instead of right customer and there are also situations
where customer forgets to take the order and even after taking the order he forgets to supply food on
time.

The existing system is traditional and lacks technology, therefore the process is very time consuming
and lengthy as a lot of human work is involved. This document will propose all features and
procedures to develop the system.

This document specially containing details about objectives, scope limitation, process model,
primary requirements, team development, possible project risks, project schedule, and finally
monitoring and reporting mechanisms.

Drawbacks of the existing system:

 Requires lot of man power


 Time consuming
 Food orders may be misplaced
 Customer may feel inconvenient to go to the waiter and place their order.
 Waiter may be unavailable when customer arrives.
 Waiter will get confused when there are too many orders to be supplied. In such case, waiter
may give wrong food to the customers.
Proposed System:

This online application enables the end users to register online, select the food from the e-menu card,
read the E-menu card and order food online by just selecting the food that the user want to have. The
results after selecting the food from the E-menu card will directly appear in the screen near the Chef
who is going to cook the food for you. By using this application the work of the Waiter is reduced
and we can also say that the work is nullified. Maintaining information in the paper and manuals is
full of risk and a tedious process. Including a framework showing how to apply Internet technology
progressively as skills and confidence grow, the project demonstrates the route from adapting
materials to developing an online environment.

Nowadays people don’t have much time to spend in catering services by just there and waiting for
the waiter to take their order. Many customer visits the catering services in their lunch break and
recess so they have limited time to eat and return to their respective office and colleges. So this
software helps them to save time and order food whenever they want without calling the waiter again
and again. As well as if the customer is a regular customer of the Catering services then the customer
gets discount.

Advantages of the proposed system:

 Enables ordering the food online


 Managing and keeping records of all students, papers, books and the entire system in digital
format i.e. in computers.
 As it is online the customer doesn’t have to wait for the waiter to take their order and doesn’t
has to wait for the food as well waiters don’t have to manually keep a record of all the food
ordered by the customer and that work is very easy.
 Waiters don’t have to manually calculate the amount of money to be paid by the customer
after having food it is automatically done in the software.
 Records are maintained in computers so there are less chances of damage and loss of data.
 More exposure for people in the world of technology.
