OVERVIEW
Next is the overview of this session, which mentions a short description of what is our
lesson all about and what the participants should expect,
 This session guide is designed for learners to deeply understand the different
trends and issues in the curriculum and curriculum development. A good
curriculum helps students learn, practice, and evaluate specific skills and
competencies. It can elicit students’ experiences and knowledge and affirms and
builds on them. It could also create an avenue for students to be aware of the
problems and controversies to develop strategies and techniques together in
addressing them, contextualized lessons are effective tools for accomplishing
this. Moreover, this session guide provides students to acquire significant
learning on how vital the curriculum and curriculum development are.
OBJECTIVES
Next are the objectives or the targets that participants should acquire at the end of the
lesson.
 First is to explain the different trends and issues in the curriculum and curriculum
development.
 2nd is to discuss the two degrees of contextualization
 3rd is to understand the importance of curriculum development to improve the
students’ learning experiences
 Lastly, to reflect on their learning significance regarding the role of
contextualization in education.
 ON THE SUBTOPICS UNDER THE TRENDS AND ISSUES ON THE
CURRICULUM AND CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
OUTLINE
Now, let’s move on to the outline or the flow of the synchronous session
 First, an ice breaker is used to introduce the topic, wherein:
o The facilitator will give the participants five (5) minutes of preparation to
think and formulate ideas regarding the trends and the different issues in
the curriculum and curriculum development. Afterward, the facilitator will
call five (5) participants to share their insights.
 After that, the facilitator-led interactive discussion on the different trends and
issues in the curriculum and curriculum development. In addition, the facilitator
will also tackle contextualization and its two degrees which may be distinguished
into localization and indigenization. Lastly, the importance of curriculum
development to improve the students’ learning experiences.
o And The PowerPoint presentation will be the material to use.
 After the discussion on the lesson proper, the facilitator will now discuss the
directions and procedures of the given activities before letting the participants
to do them.

five (5) groups. Each member will share the knowledge they have acquired on
the topic being discussed. The leader will present the collected ideas/insights of
the group.
Target Activities
Next are the Target activities where learners can be able to apply the lesson that had
been discussed by answering the given activities.
 For the first activity, the participants will work individually and will identify the
different trends and issues in the curriculum and curriculum development, and
they will further explain those trends and issues that they provided. Graphic
organizers will be going to use in this activity.

 For the 2nd activity, to deeply understand the difference and importance of the
two degrees of contextualization which are (indigenization and localization,
participants are grouped into five (5) to analyze their stand in the given variety of
situations using a column chart. Brainstorming is applied to accomplish this
assessment.

 For the 3rd activity, to clearly visualize the importance of curriculum development
for them to improve their learning experiences, the participants will answer the
concept map individually. The facilitator will ask some volunteers to present their
work.

 Lastly, for the assessment, the participants will write a reflection paper to give
their learning significance regarding the role of contextualization in education.
