I. PURPOSE
II. SCOPE
This procedure covers all grounding system, equipment grounding or any other
earthing system of MRT-7 Project.
a. This procedure shall be applied to MRT-7 Project wherein all installed electrical
grounding system requires grounding resistance measurement.
d. The owner or owner’s representative shall be notified thru IWR at least 24 hrs.
before the start of the test to complete the witnessing party.
e. Test data should be put on record with remarks (passed or failed) and all party shall
be sign on test report @ site.

a. Insert the probe and auxiliary electrode stakes into the soil as shown in Figure 1.
Ensure the probe stake is a minimum distance of 20 meters from earth ground
electrode. Ensure the auxiliary electrode stake is a minimum distance of 20 meters
from the probe stake.
For the concreted location of electrode stakes, drill first the concrete pavement and
ensure the electrode stakes will penetrate to the soil.
b. Prior to undergo testing of individual grounding rod for each earth resistance
verify and ensure that the bare copper wire is already exothermic welded to
ground rod.
For streetlight grounding terminate first the terminal lug to Lamp Post prior to
conduct earth resistance measurement.
d. Please follow the instrument manual for the type & brand of tester to be use.
e.2 Install the test leads as shown in Figure 1. Connect the earth ground electrode to
jack E/C1. Connect the probe to jack S/P2. Connect the auxiliary electrode to jack
H/C2.
e.3 Set the rotary switch to 3 pole and press START. The ACTIVE icon displays to
indicate that the measurement is in progress.
When the measurement is finished, the earth ground electrode resistance (RE)
automatically displays. To display the auxiliary electrode resistance (RH), press
DISPLAY. To display the probe resistance (RS), press DISPLAY again.

e.4 Record the resistance measurement reading of earth ground electrode (RE) on the
test form.
a. The resistance test value shall conform to the project specification 1105.3.5.A
For guideway individual ground electrode resistance to earth shall not exceed 5
ohms once the bare copper wire is already connected to ground rod thru exothermic
weld.
b. For streetlight grounding the individual ground electrode resistance shall not exceed
25 ohms in reference to Philippine Electrical Code Article 2.50.3.7.
