What is Psychrometry?
Complete dry air doesn’t exist, it always has some water vapour.
Thermodynamic behavior of air is dependent on the prevailing
temperatures and pressures.
Psychrometric parameters
Relative Humidity: Water in air/how much water the air can take
Specific humidity: Mass of water vapor/mass of dry air + mass of vapour
Absolute Humidity: mass of water vapor/unit volume of air containing the
vapour
Dew point: Temperature at which moisture starts to condense out of
air.known as saturation temperature
Latent heat: Energy released or absorbed when a substance changes
phase at constant temperature
Sensible heat: Energy required to change the temperature of a substance
without phase change

2 main applications
- control of temperature
Control of moisture
When designing an air conditioning system, the temperature and moisture
content of the air needed to be conditioned, and the same properties of
the air needed to produce the desired air conditioning effect.
