Overview

1. Overview
Use these instructions to install and run the NICE Workforce Management (WFM)
Rich Client Platform (RCP) client software on a PC. Repeat these instructions each
time there is new or updated client software.
You can install one or more versions of the WFM client software on a PC. Install each
additional version in a different folder.
Important
The WFMData directory, which the WFM client uses for caching and logging,
is located in the user’s home directory. If the domain controller redirects
the user’s home directory (for example, to a network drive), the size of the
WFMData directory could significantly slow down the WFM client startup.
There are two possible solutions, both of which affect user roaming (users
who roam from one machine to another):
• Delete the WFMData directory when the WFM client startup becomes too
slow. The user roaming capability is lost when you delete (or rename) the
existing directory is deleted.
• Change the configuration file to keep the WFMData directory local. This
takes away the user roaming capability.

Installing the WFM Client Software

2. Installing the WFM Client Software

Complete these instructions to install the WFM client software on your PC by
downloading it from the server where Apache is running. This server routes the
WFM client connection to the WFM application server.
If you are installing a new release of the WFM client software to the same folder
where an older version of the client software is installed, you need to uninstall
the older release before installing the new release (see Uninstalling the NICE WFM
Client Software, 21). This allows the WFM client to use the newest files, instead of
the older existing files.
If you want to install an older version of the WFM client software on the same desktop
that has a newer version installed, you need to remove this folder before installing
the older version: <Users folder>\AppData\Local\Temp\niceclienttemp (for
example, C:\Users\jsmith\AppData\Local\Temp\niceclienttemp). This folder
contains cache information that would prevent an older version from being installed.
Important
Make sure that all software applications (besides Program Manager)
are shut down on your PC before installing the new client software.

Starting the Client Installer Program

To start the Client Installer program by downloading it from the server where
Apache is running:

You can only download the Client Installer program from the server where
Apache is running if you have the download links enabled. If you need help,
contact your Systems Administrator.
1. Open a web browser and enter the path to the server where Apache is running:
http://<server name or IP address>/RCP (where <server name or IP
address> is the name or IP address of the server where Apache is running). This
displays the page containing the link to the WFM client software to download.
2. Click rcp-installer-7.0.X.X-<build>.exe to download the Client Installer
program.
3. Follow any prompts to download and run the Client Installer program. When you

Configuring the NICE WFM Client to use a Proxy Server

3. Configuring the NICE WFM Client to

use a Proxy Server
You may require a proxy server if your network does not allow outbound HTTP(S)
traffic directly from the WFM user’s desktop. In this scenario, all outbound
communication must be routed through an internal proxy server. The WFM RCP
client can support the use of a proxy server for any outbound communication to the
WFM backend services.
To enable use of a proxy server by the RCP client, additional properties
need to be added to the RCP client’s config.ini file that resides in the
C:\Users\<RCP user>\WFMData\totalview\configuration folder (for example
C:\Users\jsmith\WFMData\totalview\configuration\config.ini). Adding the
proxy server properties in this file controls both the WFM RCP client and Distribution
Rules client.
To configure the RCP client to use a proxy server:
1. Get these proxy server details from your system administrator:
• PROXY_SERVER_HOST: either the host name or IP address of the proxy
server
• PROXY_SERVER_PORT: port on which the proxy server will be listening
2. Identify the RCP client protocol (either HTTP or HTTPS).
The protocol determines the name of the additional properties you need to define.
3. Add these new properties to the C:\Users\<RCP
user>\WFMData\totalview\configuration\config.ini file to enable the
proxy server based on the protocol (If the config.ini file does not exist in
this directory, create it.):
For HTTP protocol:
http.proxyHost=<PROXY_SERVER_HOST>
http.proxyPort=<PROXY_SERVER_PORT>
For HTTPS protocol:
https.proxyHost=<PROXY_SERVER_HOST>
https.proxyPort=<PROXY_SERVER_PORT>
Example:
https.proxyHost=10.80.198.21
https.proxyPort=8080

4. Click Login to log in to the client software, or click Cancel to cancel the login
and exit the client software. If you log in successfully, the NICE WFM Main
Window appears.

Supervisors with Role Assignments

If a supervisor has one or more assigned roles and successfully logs in, the system
derives the effective permissions for the supervisor by determining the union of the
user and role permissions. The effective permission is the least restrictive of the
permissions defined for the user and the roles assigned to the supervisor.
For more information to help you understand roles and permissions, see Users and
Permissions in the Administrator Guide.

LDAP Authentication
If you use the LDAP Authentication feature, when a supervisor tries to log in, the
system authenticates the user ID and password against the customer's LDAP
directory, rather than validating against the WFM database.
If you use the LDAP Role Assignments feature, the system determines the roles
assigned to the user from the LDAP directory.
For more information, see the LDAP Authentication and LDAP Role Assignments
appendix in the Administrator Guide.

Configure the WFM Server for the WFM Client Software

6. Configure the WFM Server for the

WFM Client Software
Overview
The Workforce Management Configuration program allows you to view and modify
the server configuration parameters for the WFM client software installed on the PC.
Use the Workforce Management Configuration program to:
• view a list of servers to which the NICE WFM client software can connect
• add, modify, and delete servers in the list
• select the server for the WFM client connection
• click the connect icon ( ) to start the WFM client software and connect to the
server specified on that row.
One of the steps during the NICE WFM client installation is to select the
default server the WFM client software connects to. After the client installation
completes, the system saves these values in the config.ini file located in
<install-folder>\wfm\configuration, and this selected server appears as the
Default Server in the Workforce Management Configuration program.
If you reinstall (overwrite) an instance of the WFM client software on the PC, the
system saves the server configuration parameters in the Workforce Management
Configuration program. If you use the WFM Uninstaller program to uninstall an
instance of the WFM client software from your PC, the uninstall program removes
the server configuration parameters for that instance.

Creating a Silent Installation for the WFM Client Software

7. Creating a Silent Installation for

the WFM Client Software
The silent installation feature allows you to install or upgrade the NICE WFM client
software on PCs by providing a script (a silent response file) for the installation
process to use. This silent response file contains the answers to the questions
prompted during the Client Installer program.
When performing silent installations, you do not need to watch the installation and
answer the questions in the Client Installer program. The silent installation process
runs on its own to install or upgrade the WFM client software on PCs.
Refer to these topics:
• Creating a Response File for the Silent Installation, 26
• Running the Silent Install, 27
• Running the Silent Uninstall, 27

Creating a Response File for the Silent

Installation
Since a silent installation does not prompt you during the installation, a silent
installation must get its information from the silent response file. This section
explains how to easily create a silent response file (auto-install.xml). After
creating a response file, the Client Installer program reads the necessary input from
the response file at run time.
Note
If you use silent installations for both new software installations and software
upgrades (when upgrading an existing version of the WFM client software),
you need different response files.
To create the response file:
1. Download the Client Installer executable file from the server where Apache is
running and save it to a folder on the PC (for example, C:\tmp). This server
routes the WFM client connection to the WFM application server.
The name of the Client Installer executable file is
rcp-installer-7.0.X.X-<build>.exe.
2. Start the Client Installer program from the folder you just copied it to by
double-clicking the rcp-installer-7.0.X.X-<build>.exe executable file.
3. Continue through the Client Installer program to install the NICE WFM Client
software on the PC. Use the WFM configuration details for your environment to
perform the manual install. If you need help, refer to the NICE WFM Client
Installation Notes.
4. On the Installation Finished step, click Generate an automatic installation
script to create the response file (auto-install.xml) and save it to the C:\
folder. This silent response file contains the answers to the questions prompted
during the Client Installer program for the installation.

Running the Silent Install

Note
You must define the AUTO_INSTALL environment
variable to tell the system where to look for the file.
For example, AUTO_INSTALL=C:\auto-install.xml or
AUTO_INSTALL=C:\<directory where file exists>\auto-install.xml.
You can do this in the Advanced tab of the System Properties dialog using
the Environment Variables button.
5. Copy the config.ini files from the installation path (for example, C:\Program
Files (x86)\NICE_WFM\client-configuration\configuration\config.ini
and C:\Program Files
(x86)\NICE_WFM\distribution-rules\configuration\config.ini) to the
same folders in the response file folder.

Running the Silent Install

After creating the response file, you are ready to run the Client Installer program
in silent mode. When running an installation in silent mode, be aware the system
does not display any messages.
To run a silent installation on a PC:
1. Right-click the Client Installer executable file
(rcp-installer-7.0.X.X-<build>.exe) and select Run as administrator to run
it. The system looks for the response file (auto-install.xml) in the C:\ folder
(or the folder defined by the environment variable, if you defined one).
Important
The system overwrites the response file if you save another response file
in the same location. If you plan to reuse the response file, you need to
make a copy of it and rename it or put it in a different folder.
Depending on whether this is a new software installation or software upgrade,
make sure you use the correct response file.
2. If you are prompted to allow the rcp-installer-7.0.X.X-<build>.exe program
to make changes to the computer, click Yes.
3. The system runs the WFM client installation program in silent mode.
When the silent installation completes on the PC, the installer creates the
directory specified in the auto-install.xml file.
4. Copy the config.ini files from the response file folder (for
example, C:\client-configuration\configuration\config.ini
and C:\distribution-rules\configuration\config.ini)
to the installation path (for example, C:\Program Files
(x86)\NICE_WFM\client-configuration\configuration and C:\Program
Files (x86)\NICE_WFM\distribution-rules\configuration).

Running the Silent Uninstall

To uninstall the NICE WFM client software, you can run the Silent Uninstaller
program. When running an uninstall in silent mode, be aware the system does not
display any messages.
