INSTALLING MASTERCAM 2018

This installation guide covers Mastercam and Mastercam for SOLIDWORKS. Both
have a click-license. To use the software, you must agree to the license terms.

Mastercam 2018 System Requirements

Up-to-date system requirements are available for Mastercam and Mastercam for
SOLIDWORKS online: www.mastercam.com/en-us/Support/System-Requirements

Mastercam for SOLIDWORKS requires a seat of SOLIDWORKS.

An internet connection and e-mail access is recommended for support and updates.
Visit www.mastercam.com for more information.

Installation Requirements
To install and run Mastercam 2018 or Mastercam 2018 for SOLIDWORKS, you must
have the following:

l Installation program on DVD, on flash drive, or downloaded from www.-

mastercam.com.

l Valid Mastercam 2018 or Mastercam 2018 for SOLIDWORKS license (HASP

SIM or NetHASP). A single-user HASP is dark purple, whereas a NetHASP is
red.

l Update code information (current users only).

Notes:

l You can install only as a member of the Administrator group.

l To install properly, you must have the Impersonate a client after authen-
tication group policy. The Administrator group gets this permission by default.

l When installing as an Administrator for other users, you must select the
Anyone who uses this computer (all users) option. This option is the default
setting for the installation.

Installing a HASP (Single-User License)

Mastercam and Mastercam for SOLIDWORKS support both single-user and network
licensing. The following procedure is for single-user licenses only. NetHASP install-
ation is a network administrator task that is described in the Mastercam 2018 Admin-
istrator Guide.

Note: The Mastercam 2018 Administrator Guide, accessible from the installer window,
covers more advanced installation tasks. After installing, you can find the guide in the
documentation folder of your installation.

To install the single-user license:

1. Locate an available USB port on the computer. If you are unsure of the port’s
location, consult your computer documentation.

2. Plug the HASP into the port.

CAUTION: The HASP attaches to your port in only one orientation. Do not
force it into the port as you may damage the port and the HASP.

Previous Versions
Previous Mastercam or Mastercam for SOLIDWORKS versions are unaffected by the
2018 installation. For migration help, please refer to the Mastercam 2018 Transition
Guide, located in your installation’s documentation folder.

Installation Options
When you insert the installation media into your computer, the installation program
runs. (If it does not run, double-click launcher.exe on the installation media.) Choose
from the following installation options:

l Mastercam® Installation: Installs using the default installation method. You

can also repair, uninstall, or modify your installation. With the Mastercam
installation, you can also install additional products including Mastercam Art,
and more.

l Mastercam® for SOLIDWORKS® Installation: Installs using the default

installation method. You can also repair, uninstall, or modify your installation.

l Utilities: Provides installers for the NHaspX, NetHASP Server, NetHASP Mon-
itor, and CodeMeter. For information, please see the Mastercam 2018 Admin-
istrator Guide.

l Mastercam Documentation: Displays links to the ReadMe, Installation Guide,

and Administrator Guide documents for both products.

l Contact Us: Lists contact information for CNC Software, Inc.

l Exit: Closes the installation program.

To install Mastercam
In this procedure “Mastercam” refers to both Mastercam and Mastercam for
SOLIDWORKS.

Perform the following steps to install the default Mastercam installation with minimal
user interaction, leaving your current version of Mastercam intact.

Notes:

l This procedure assumes that the mcim.ini file (included on your installation
media) is in its default state.

l If you are installing Mastercam for SOLIDWORKS, do not plug in your SIM until
the installation is complete. Also, before proceeding, you must have
SOLIDWORKS installed.

1. Click the Installation button link for the product you want to install. The setup
pane displays.

2. Select the products to install, and then click Next. The Review - Configure pane
displays.

3. To change settings—including installation location—click the Configure but-

ton, change the configuration settings as needed, and click Done.

4. Click Next. The license window displays.

5. If you agree with the license terms, select Yes, I accept the terms of the
license agreement, and then click Next. The installation process begins.

6. When the installation finishes, the Mastercam Installation Manager shows

“Setup Complete.”

7. Click Home to return to the main installation menu, or click Exit.

Starting Mastercam
Mastercam’s installer adds shortcuts to the Start, All Programs menu and to the
Desktop.

Use one of the following methods to start Mastercam:

l Double-click the Mastercam 2018 shortcut on the Desktop.

l Choose Start, All Programs, Mastercam 2018.

The Mastercam initialization screen displays briefly, followed by the Mastercam soft-
ware license agreement. After you view and accept the license agreement, the
Mastercam 2018 window opens.

Note: If you do not have a Maintenance contract, you might have to update your SIM
code before you can start Mastercam. Please refer to the Mastercam 2018 Admin-
istrator Guide for more information.

Starting Mastercam for SOLIDWORKS

1. Start SOLIDWORKS.

2. In the Tools menu, select Add-Ins.

3. Find Mastercam 2018 for SOLIDWORKS in the Add-Ins dialog box.

4. If necessary, select the checkbox to the left of the Mastercam 2018 for
SOLIDWORKS Add-In.

5. If you want Mastercam for SOLIDWORKS to start automatically with

SOLIDWORKS, select the checkbox to the right of the Mastercam 2018 for
SOLIDWORKS Add-In.

6. Click OK to finalize your choices.

7. In the SOLIDWORKS CommandManager, ensure that you have a Master-

cam2018 tab.

Note: If you do not have a Maintenance contract, you might have to update your SIM
code before you can start Mastercam for SOLIDWORKS. Please refer to the Mastercam
2018 for SOLIDWORKS Administrator Guide for more information.

Mastercam Support and Services

For assistance with installing Mastercam, its HASP or NetHASP, or to obtain more
information on using Mastercam, contact your local Mastercam Reseller. If your
Reseller is unavailable, you can call CNC Technical Support Services Monday through
Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m., USA Eastern Standard Time.

When calling CNC Software for technical support, please follow these guidelines:

l Be sure you have already tried to contact your Mastercam Reseller.

l Provide the serial number of your HASP or NetHASP.

l Be ready to describe the problem in detail. Write down what happened, par-
ticularly if you cannot call immediately after the problem occurs.

l Be in front of your computer when you call.

l If possible, try to duplicate the problem before calling. Our Support Services
technician may require you to duplicate the problem while you are on the
phone.

l When you call, have ready a complete description of your hardware, including
your operating system (OS), central processing unit (CPU), graphics card and
settings, and memory.

You can also leave a message for CNC Support Services twenty-four hours a day,
seven days a week via our email or website addresses. When sending email, please
include:

l The serial number of your HASP or NetHASP

l Telephone number and contact information where you can be reached

l Files required to reproduce an issue
