1. SCOPE OF WORK

The methodology covers the procedure to be followed the sequence of work. The main works involve in the
Testing & Commissioning for C O 2 S ys t e m and specialties in line with specifications. This includes but is not
limited to the support systems, inspection, testing and acceptance of such Testing & Commissioning for CO2
System as indicated on the approved project shop drawings.

3. RESPONSIBILITIES:

It is the Site Construction Manager's duty to ensure that all necessary safety and protective equipment are provided
along with properly trained and the qualified personnel. Moreover, to ensure that all works are carried out in
accordance with this method statement.

It is the Site Engineer/Supervisor's duty to organize the work force in a safe manner and to ensure that safety and
protective equipment are being properly utilized. He must also ensure that the method statement procedure is followed
and notify Consultant for inspection.

Use appropriate equipment to complete assigned task. Abide by all Site Safety and quality requirements.

The Safety Engineer is responsible for devising and implementing programs and plans to safeguard, health and safety
of all employees, and to prevent loss or damage to the existing assets and projects, he is responsible for the
implementing of the safety programs. He is also responsible to:

Provide support to site safety officers advising them on safe working methods and assisting with training of personnel.

Carryout regular site safety audits and reports and correct unsafe work practices and potential hazards.

Investigate and report all accidents near misses and recommended preventive measures. Ensure Maintenances of good
hygienic standards and availability of safety equipment and first aid treatment.

Present monthly safety reports and required documents.

Safety Officers are responsible for:


The day to day activities of maintaining safety on project site, they must: Understand and comply with requirements
of the safety manual.

Cooperate with safety engineer to create and maintain safe working conditions. Assist the Site Engineers and foremen
to organize the work area so that the men can perform their duties with maximum efficiency and minimize risk to
them or to equipment. Inspect equipment and tools before use to ensure correct storage and properly utilization.
Maintain record of all injuries and damages on site, submit reports as required.

It is the QA/QC Project Quality Manager's responsibility to ensure that all inspections and tests are carried out as per
Project requirement and that all are recorded.

Maintaining all quality records relevant to verification of records

4. SAFETY PLAN: (PRIOR TO EXECUTION OF ANY WORK)

Safety plan requires that proper regard is given to occupational and environmental safety during all activities.

 Follow health safety & Environmental precautions in the execution of work.


 Ensure that personal protective equipment (PPE) shall be worn during working period.
 Medic should be available at all times in case of any injuries arise at the work site for first aid.
 During working period responsible site supervisor and safety officer should be full time.
 Demonstration, training & awareness guideline to all employees.
 Minimizing the dust exposure to avoid pollution and any bad effect to the health of the community and the
workers also. Securities and barriers.
 The responsible person should ensure the security and safety of work area at all times.
 Appropriate warning tape, barricade should be use to communicate hazard. Safety

Training & Orientation


 Workforces and staff will be provided with safety training and orientation prior to commencing to work and
it's mandatory.
 Tool box meeting will cover awareness and recognition of potentially dangerous and unsafe conditions of
Testing & Commissioning for CO2 System.

Safety Warning Signs


Safety warning and signage's will be post visibly were it is necessary especially "RESTRICTED
AREA "
 Proper enough access should be made for equipment moving.
All concerned person will be properly informed of the date, time, and duration of the work to be done regarding
Testing & Commissioning for CO2 System.

5. TESTING & COMMISSIONING PROCEDURES FOR CO2 System:-

The purpose of this method statement is to outline the method for handling, storage, installation, testing and
commissioning for the FM200 in accordance with the requirements specified in the relevant NFPA Codes,
Standards and Project specifications in all applicable areas for the project.

Final Pre-Commissioning& Commissioning:


METHODOLOGY
Before commissioning the co2 gas fire extinguishing system the following pre-commissioning checks shall
be ensured

A PRE-COMMISSIONING
 Ensure that the installation activity of the FM200 fire extinguishing system is completed.
 Ensure that the Co2 system has been checked against the approved installation drawings.
 Ensure that the pipes are cleaned by blowing air.
 Ensure that the leak test of the piping has been carried out and witnessed.
 Ensure that the discharge nozzles and orifice units have been installed in accordance with the approved gas
flow calculations.
 Ensure that the actuation hose and discharge hose are rigidly fitted.
 Ensure that the Co2 cylinder pressure gauges showing the acceptable pressure range.
 Ensure that the installation of control panel and associated cabling / installation of devices are completed and
tested.
 Ensure that the termination to all devices (like smoke detectors, bells, flasher beacons, solenoids & pressure
switches) are completed and loops are checked.
 Ensure that all the identification and warning signs, flow directions are marked as appropriate / required.
 Ensure that the solenoid actuator is disconnected from the master cylinder.

COMMISSIONING
 Before commencing the commissioning activities, please ensure that solenoid actuator is disconnected from
the master cylinder and all loops have been checked for continuity and are witnessed by client/ contractors.
 Switch ON the power for the control panel and check for the following functions of the control panel
 Using Auto / manual / disabled key switch, check the operation of system status indication

Operate 1 NO. Of smoke detector in the protected area using a smoke gun and confirm the FOLLOWING Sequence
of operations:

 Common fire alarm bell & common fire beacon in the building activate.
 Fire indication on the Extinguishing Control Panel operates.
 Fire signal on the F&G Panel and the shutdown of equipment.

Operate one more detector in the protected area and confirm the FOLLOWING SEQUENCE OF OPERATIONS:

 Pre-discharge sounder inside & outside the protected room is active. (Intermittent Tone)
 On expiry of time delay period, confirm that the FM200 solenoid actuator is activated.
 Discharged sounder/beacon outside
 Protected area is activated. (Tone continuous)

Operate the gas discharge pressure switch and confirm the following:

 Gas discharge message on the Extinguishing Control Panel is activated.


 Gas discharge message on the F&G panel is activated
 Indication on Extinguishing Control Panel (FM200 discharge completed) is activated

Placing the system in service:

 On completion of the tests as per above, reset the panel and install the solenoid on the master cylinder to
place the system in service
 Install the manual release leaver to the master cylinder.
