Lesson 1 discusses the nature of communication. Communication is defined as the exchange of ideas, messages, and information between two or more people through a shared medium so that the sender and receiver have a common understanding. There are key elements of communication including a sender, receiver, channel, feedback, noise and interference. The communication process involves a sender transmitting a message through a channel which the receiver gets and provides feedback on. Communication can occur through different modes such as interpretive, presentational, and interpersonal. Verbal and non-verbal communication are also discussed.

Communication can broadly be defined as exchange of ideas,


messages and information between two or more persons, through a
medium, in a manner that the sender and the receiver understand
the message in the common sense that is, they develop common
understanding of the message.
