DLP in Congruent Line Segments

This detailed lesson plan is for a Grade 3 mathematics class on congruent line segments. The lesson will begin with an opening activity to review the previous lesson. Students will then be introduced to the concept of congruent line segments through examples and hands-on activities like measuring and comparing line segments. They will work individually and in groups to identify congruent and non-congruent line segments. To assess learning, students will complete an exercise identifying congruent line segments and answering questions about examples. The goal is for students to understand that two line segments are congruent if they have the same length.

examples/Instances Say: Let one partner draw a line segment. The other partner will measure the line segment made by his/her
of the new lesson partner. Then he/she draws another line segment with the same length.
Write the measurement on the sides for the others to see.
Ask: What have you noticed?

How do you know that the line segments are equal?

Say: Illustrate the line segments that you produced.

Pair 1:

Are the Line Segment equal?

Pair 2:

Are they equal?

Ask: When can you determine that the line are equal?
What is Line Segment?
How will you determine if the line segments are equal?
What do you call line segments with the same length?

Lines segments are congruent if they have the same length. To identify if line segments are congruent, you
can use a ruler to measure their lengths and compare. Or you can put one line segment on top of the other to
check if the line segments have the same length.
The symbol for congruency is:

We say: Line segment AB is congruent to line segment CD.
