Who Is Aristotle?

Aristotle was an ancient Greek philosopher who studied many areas including natural philosophy, logic, politics and ethics. He is known for classifying different areas of human knowledge into distinct disciplines. Aristotle believed that the purpose of life was to achieve happiness through exercising virtue and reasoning well. He described different types of virtues including intellectual and moral virtues. Nicomachean Ethics discusses Aristotle's views on what constitutes a good life and the role of habit and reason in developing moral character. 1. Who is Aristotle?

Aristotle is an ancient Greek philosopher who is known for his natural philosophy,
logic, and political theory. He is one of the greatest thinkers in the history of western science
and philosophy. He is also the first to classify areas of human knowledge into distinct
disciplines such as mathematics, biology, and ethics. Aristotle is one of the strongest
advocates of a liberal arts education, which stresses the education of the whole person,
including one’s moral character, rather than merely learning a set of skills.
2. What is Nicomachean Ethics?

Nicomachean Ethics states that all human activities aim at some good. Every art and
human inquiry, and similarly every action and pursuit, is thought to aim at some good; and
for this reason, the good has been rightly declared as that at which all things aim.

3. What is meant by Good Life?

Good life means living in comfort and luxury with few problems or worries. It is
characterized by happiness from living and doing well.

4. What is eudaimonia?

Eudaimonia came from the Greek word “eu” meaning “good” and “daimon”
meaning “spirit”. It refers to the good life marked by happiness and excellence. It means
flourishing the filled with meaningful endeavours that empower the human person to be the
best version of himself/herself.

5. What is Aristotle’s view of good life?

Aristotle’s view of goof life states that the activity of the soul in accordance with
virtue. He believed that good for humans in the maximum realization of what was unique to
humans. The good for humans was to reason well and the task of reason was to teach
humans how to act virtuously, and the exercise faculties in accordance with virtue.

A virtue is a character feature or attribute that is regarded as ethically good and so
cherished as a foundation of morality and moral being. In other words, it is a morally upright
action that involves doing what is right and avoiding what is bad.

Virtue, then, being of two kinds, intellectual and moral, intellectual virtue in the

moral virtue comes about as a result of habit.

8. What is the difference between intellectual virtue and moral virtue?


Intellectual virtue is a theoretical wisdom wherein experience and time are
necessary requirements for the development thereof. Moral virtue, on the other hand, is
controlled by practical wisdom, which is the ability to make right judgment. Moral virtue can
be learned and owed its development to how one nurtured it as a habit.
9. How Aristotle describes happiness?
Aristotle describes happiness as the central purpose of human life and a goal in
itself. According to him, happiness depends on the cultivation of virtue and that a genuinely
happy life required the fulfillment of a broad range of conditions, including physical as well
as mental well-being.
10. Happiness as the ultimate purpose of human existence. Please expound.
Happiness is a final end or goal that encompasses the totality of one’s life. It is not
something that can be gained or lost in a few hours, life pleasurable sensations. It is more
like the ultimate value of your life as lived up to this moment, measuring how well you have
lived up to your full potential as a human being.

Science and Technology is also considered as the movement towards good life since
it is one of the highest expressions of human faculties. In addition, Science and Technology
allow us, humans, to thrive and flourish if we desire it and with virtue, Science and
Technology can help an individual to be out of danger.

12. Why is it that everyone is in the pursuit of the good life?


According to Ernest Agyemang Yeboah, “Life is good! It is only our thoughts, choices
and actions towards the situations we meet in life each moment of time that makes life look
bad. The same bad situations in life that makes one person think badly inspires another to
do a noble thing. The same good situation in life that makes one person feel so good to get
into a bad situation inspires another person to create another good situation because of the
good situation. It is all about thoughts, choices, and actions. Life is good. Live it well.”

good.” Give your personal opinion about this statement.
The goal of theoretical sciences is truth; the end goal of practical sciences is "good."
Every attempt to know is linked in some way to the search for the "good" or the
achievement of human flourishing. Rightly so, one must first discover the truth about what is
good before attempting to locate it.
14. In your own opinion, what constitutes a good life?

A purposeful life is a good life. It is a life in which you make the most of every
opportunity in any scenario, good or bad, and where you remain calm, collected, and able to
see things clearly. It's a life spent with family, friends, and other people you care about. It is
a life in which you do not regret your choices and do not consider what may have happened
if you had done things differently, i.e. a life without any "what ifs." Being able to love and
being loved is an essential aspect of living a happy life. Everyone wishes to have or attain a
wonderful life, even if they are unaware that they may already have one. A good life can be
something so simple that it is often neglected, but it can make a significant difference in your
life. The modest pleasures in life, rather than the great lavish ones, are what make life
worthwhile.

16. How is the progress in science and technology a movement towards the good life?

Science and technology advancements enable us to live a better life by facilitating access
to information in a variety of sectors. Technology provides a variety of research and information
sources, as well as scientific research and experimentation equipment. Technology leads to a
better life with quicker problem solving. For example, technological advancements enable
healthcare research, which leads to better treatments and cures for fatal diseases. People may
now search for and discover better solutions depending on convenience and needs thanks to
advancements in science and technology.
