Previous knowledge test

1. Who makes food for you? (MOTHER)

2. What is your favorite food? (Peas and Cabbage)
3. Where does this food come from? (plants)
4. Do you know how plants make their food? (problematic question)

Announcement of topic

Well students!

Today we will study about PHOTOSYNTHESIS.

Presentation

The word “photosynthesis” is a combination of two Greek words:

1- Photo means “light”

2- Synthesis means “to make”

Plants make their food using carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) in the presence
of sunlight ad chlorophyll by the process called photosynthesis. Glucose and
oxygen are the products of photosynthesis. (show picture of photosynthesis
process in class). Now we will study about the equation that explains the process
of photosynthesis.
FIGURE: Equation of photosynthesis

Students!

Photosynthesis is one of the most important chemical processes that take place in
our world. If photosynthesis doesn’t take place nearly all living things will die. The
food synthesis in this process i.e. glucose is stored in the plant parts like in fruit
e.g. mango and roots in some plants e.g. potato.

Factors affecting the process of photosynthesis

⮚ Chlorophyll
⮚ Temperature
⮚ Carbon dioxide
⮚ light
⮚ water

Evaluation

● What is photosynthesis?
● What are the products of photosynthesis?
● How plants make their food?

Homework

1. What would happen if there were no carbon dioxide in the air? (PTB Science
pg. 32)
2. Name the factors affecting photosynthesis
