LESSON 3

POSITIVE USE OF ICT

Teachers as facilitators of learning should be able to show skills in the positive use of
ICT to facilitate the teaching and learning process.
Positive use of ICT can empower learners and teachers and transform the teaching
and learning process.

COMPETENCY INDICATOR

At the end of the session, the practice teachers (PTs) will be able to:
Show skills in the positive use of ICT to facilitate the teaching and learning
process

TRIGGER THE DESIRE FOR

TEACHING & LEARNING

GUIDE QUESTION::
What are your own perceptions about positive use of ICT to facilitate teaching and
learning process?

My own perception as a pre-service teacher towards the positive use of ICT to facilitate
teaching and learning is it serves as an empowerment to both the teachers and the
learners. I believe that ICT is an effective transition of student-centered approach in learning
from the traditional teaching wherein only the teachers tend to speak in class, this enables
the students to be more participative and makes the class discussion interactive. This
innovation in the teaching and learning process aims to create learning opportunities for
students and develop teachers’ skills with technology and effective teaching strategies.
OBSERVATION FOR CLARIFICATION

VIRTUAL CLASSROOM OBSERVATION

● Observe how your supervising instructor/professor integrates ICT in their
asynchronous learning on ePNU/GMeet.
● Observe how your SI/SP conducts the synchronous learning mode and list down the
positive use of ICT to facilitate teaching and learning process.

GUIDE QUESTION::
How do we positively use ICT to facilitate teaching and learning process?

As teachers, we can use ICT to facilitate teaching and learning process through
continuous communication that would lead to achievement of the learning target. The use
of ICT within the class would result to authentic processing of information and exchange of
knowledge experienced by the learner, making them involve in their own learning process.
Personally, I think that the use of ICT does not only triggers interactive learning but also
enables to develop linguistic abilities, skills, communication and learning strategies that
would cater diversity of students in a multidisciplinary way. In order for this integrative
approach to be successful, the teacher must be knowledgeable enough not just with their
content but also regarding what type of learners they must teach, how they would like to
discuss their topic, what kind of instructional materials they must provide and much more
on preparing for these ICTs.
This is what I have observed during the past sessions led by our supervising professor,
Prof. Varron and during the most recent one, with our fellow field study students. The class
discussions tends to be interactive as the teachers chose materials that are appropriate and
interesting for the students in the 10th Grade. One of the example is the Squid Game Picture
Analysis during the 2nd week of synchronous classes, the inclusion of this activity triggers
class participation from the students as it pertains to the immensely popular series of the
present time. The teacher successfully achieved her goal of capturing the student’s
attention and also relates it with her topic. Same as how the recent class discussion goes
where the field study teachers decided to catch the students’ attention by coming up with
an intriguing title for each lesson’s part such as “Makonsensya ka naman...” for the
definition of conscience. I think that being creative is one of the qualities a teacher must
possess for creating an effective materials. Another quality that I have observed on the ICTs
used during the sessions are the practicality of the sites used by the teachers. The use of
Google Jamboard which are not just accessible for the students but also wise on the part of
the teachers as it is free and could be collaboratively used asynchronously. Together with
the shift to virtual learning, the teachers are faced with various challenges but it is also
amazing that this brings out the willingness of the teachers to enable learning despite the
situation and adapt with the learning modality just like how the observed teachers had
done with the past session.
REALIZATIONS THROUGH
REFLECTIONS

PAIR AND SHARE

● In pairs, take turns in sharing your insights regarding the asynchronous and
synchronous learning modes you have observed with emphasis on the positive use of
ICT to facilitate teaching and learning process.
● Validate your insights and consensually synthesize positive use of ICT to facilitate
teaching and learning process using a graphic organizer. Write your answer on the
space provided for.

GUIDE QUESTION::
If you were to teach the same lesson using the resources available to you, would you do
the things shown by the teacher? Which of these things would you continue? Which of
these things need improvement?

The utilization of ICT within the classroom would contribute not just to the
betterment of teaching and learning process but also to the improvement of the teacher’s
technology integration within the classroom. During the observation on the synchronous
classes in the past weeks, I have come to appreciate the wise and practical use of ICT
integration. Wise in terms of being able to enunciate and bring out the essence of the topic
and practical as it was not too complicated to employ within the allotted time and
considering the internet stability.
I am pleased with what our supervising professor and my fellow field study teachers
have done in their respective lessons and have shown various strategies in ICT that is quite
suitable for the students’ level. I would like to commend the use of Google Slides although
out the session as it is capable to maintain students’ attention during the class discussion.
One thing also is that this site is accessible for everyone whose indicated for sharing that
would enable us to have a backup in case we are faced with technical difficulties.
If I would be asked if I were to use the same resources or materials, I think I would still
utilize them but would modify some parts of it in order to make the class discussion more
interactive. The graphic organizer presented in the next page shows some of my alternative
ideas if I would have a chance to present it. I would like to express that I am satisfied with
the flow and execution of ICTs during the synchronous classes and my technology
integration ideas stated in the graphic organizer are merely an output of my exploration for
safe websites and applications to be used in an online class.
The description of each parts of the MEDIA plan are stated there together with the
proposed and appropriate websites to be used in each parts enclosed with a parentheses ( ).

VIDEO ANALYSIS
● Watch more video-based demo lessons on the positive use of ICT from You
Tube/Khan Academy.
● Given a number of classroom scenarios (Based on the You Tube/Khan Academy
videos they’ve watched), analyze further some positive uses of ICT to facilitate
teaching and learning process.

GUIDE QUESTION:
Which practice/s show/s positive use of ICT based on the video/s you’ve watched? Could
you suggest better or other ways of doing it to facilitate and enhance learning? Cite a
concrete example.
I have noticed a lot of positive use of ICT based on the videos I have watched. Firstly,
Khan Academy is one of the pioneers when it comes to free informational videos online. The
content of their videos are rich in information and was properly explained, only thing is that
the visual materials specially during their past videos tend to remain the same from the
beginning until the end. This is in contrast to the visual capacity of another Youtube
Informational Channel, Dr. Binocs which also aims to teach children through cheerful and
colorful animated videos.
Overall, both videos are interesting to watch and would surely contribute to students’
;earning experience. These are the kinds of videos that we teachers should also try to
practice within our classroom, given that we are now situated in online learning.
Supplementing such kinds of materials would be sufficient and save time within our
synchronous sessions.

ACTION PLAN
Prepare an action plan on how to positively use ICT to facilitate teaching and
learning process in two or three lessons agreed upon by your SI/SPs based on the
theme focused for the quarter.

GUIDE QUESTION::
How can you promote positive use of ICT to facilitate teaching and learning process
better?
As a pre-service teacher, I can promote positive use of ICT to teaching and learning
process better by exploring applications and website that are student-friendly. Another
thing is being open to suggestions and recommendations of our colleagues. We must
expand our knowledge regarding technology so that we can also do the same for our
students.
