This project proposal outlines a community service project to create an alternative portable water filtration equipment. The project will take place from February to June 2022 in Balete, Batangas City. It aims to provide a low-cost option to filter water for drinking to improve community health. Over several sessions, the student Jaye Irish B. Hernandez will gather materials, design, assemble, test, and demonstrate the equipment. The portable filtration system uses locally available materials like sand, charcoal, and bottles to filter water without electricity. The total cost is estimated at ₱20-50. Monitoring will ensure the equipment effectively filters water and encourages sustainability through material reuse.

VIII. Beneficiaries
• Community- it will provide knowledge and thoughts about creating alternative
portable water filtration equipment.

•Rural Health Unit (RHU)

IX. Rationale of the Problem

• The proposed project will be implemented in the community in order to ensure that the
water we drink in our homes is safe and healthy. This project should be carried out to assist
people who do not have enough money to spend on mineral water and who live far away
from refilling stations. In addition, it will be beneficial to specific individuals of the
community by providing information and ideas on how to make portable water filtration
equipment.

X. Objectives
• To create a equipment that is functional on producing clear and clean water.

XI. Description of the project

• In our generation we are experiencing different kinds of illnesses due to the food
we eat, climate change, and the water we drink. We know very well that water is
one of the major needs of our body; the water we drink must be clean in order for
us to be safe and healthy. According to my study, some households here get their
water from a dug well (balon) and a tubed/piped deep well. The majority of the
population gets its water from the community water system. The question is how
do we know if the water that we are drinking is clean? Those filtration machines are
too big and we cannot carry it out. Also those filtration machines cannot work
without electricity. So how will be the situation of the people who are far from the
refilling stations? How they can get clean water? So we are trying to create
alternative portable water filtration equipment. This may help the people who are
less in budget for buying clean water and also those people who are far to the
refilling stations. Alternative portable water filtration equipment will help you clean
your water.
Water quality can be compromised by the presence of infectious agents, toxic
chemicals, and radiological hazards. Water purity is extremely important to
pharmaceutical and biochemical industries. Suspended or dissolved particles,
organic compounds, impurities and other contaminants prohibit the usage of tap
water in laboratory applicants and scientific research.

XII. Strategies and methods of implementation

• Plan and organize everything from the materials needed until finishing the
equipment. After creating a sample equipment share it to your community. Since
limited interaction is implemented, the creator of the equipment can share his/her
idea by exposing it through the internet. By this strategy people in the community will
be able to make an alternative portable water filtration equipment. After assembling
the alternative portable water filtration equipment they may used it to filtrate the
water from the water source to secure the cleanliness of the water. If the instruction
is not understandable due to the strategy of sharing the process of assembling the
alternative portable water filtration equipment , they may contact the creator
himself/herself.

equipment for further
explanation.
XIV. Financial Plan, Cost of the project and Proposed Expenditures

MATERIALS:
- Soft sand
- Rough sand
- Charcoal
- Pebbles
- Cotton
- 1.5 Plastic Bottle
- Wood
- Water from the faucet

Cost of the project:

- ₱ 20-50.00

XV. Monitoring and evaluation Mechanics of the Project

• The project have monitored throughout the given period of time and proven to
be effective, practical and sustainable equipment that helps the community to
obtain a clean and clear drinkable water. Practical in the way of not using
expensive materials in creating the equipment and the materials can be found
anywhere in the community because it’s all alternative and also practical in ways
that everyone can create the equipment. Sustainable in the way that the materials
of the equipment is easily found inside the community and the equipment can
sustain for a month before creating a new one. According to my evaluation the
project can be improve by creating a bigger alternative filtrating equipment that
can accumulate a maximum of 1 gallon by generating a bigger container for the
equipment in order to make the work easier and less time consume.

XVI. Plans to ensure the sustainability of the Project

• Encourage everyone that drinking filtrated water is healthier than drinking
directly from faucet itself without filtrating it because the water can be stagnant for
a period of time and created unpleasant microorganisms that may cause diarrhea.
• Encourage everyone to recycle the bottles or the materials that can be use to
create the equipment not only to sustain the project but also to lessen the waste
materials of the community.
