Chapter III

Research Methodology

This chapter is intended to cover the following: the research design, research setting,

research participant, research instrument, data collection procedure, ethical consideration,

and data analysis.

Research Design

This is a Qualitative Method using a phenomenological design. Qualitative research

method is research using methods such as participant observation or case studies which

result in a narrative, descriptive account of a setting or practice. Sociologists using these

methods typically reject positivism and adopt a form of interpretive sociology.

Phenomenological research design requires the researcher to bracket whatever a priori

assumption they have about the experience or phenomenon. In simpler terms, researchers

use phenomenological research designs to understand a phenomenon's universal nature

by exploring the views of those who have experienced it.

Research Setting

This research will be conducted in Guipos National Highschool which is located at Purok

1-B, Poblacion Guipos, Zamboanga Del Sur. The researchers have chosen Guipos

National Highschool because it is more efficient given that this topic aims to ask the

Senior Highschool students about strand discrimination.

Research Participants
The participants are the Senior Highschool students in Guipos, this research only focuses

on the Senior Highschool department as the topic only relates to them. In choosing

participants, we as a researcher will name an exact amount of volunteers and divide them

into two, the first half will be grade 11 students, and the other half composed of grade 12

students. The researchers will aim to ask at least one student in every strand to have their

opinion about the topic. Through this method, every strand in Guipos National

Highschool will have at least a representative that will be asked.

Research Instrument

An interview script about the topic will be used by the researchers to gather information

about the perception of the participants pertaining to strand discrimination. A recorder

will also be used to record the participant's responses to the questions.

Ethical Consideration

The participants of this study will be informed regarding the objectives of this study, also

full consent will be requested from the participants. The research participants will not be

subjected to any sort of harm whatsoever.

Data Collection Procedure

The procedure of the researchers of this study for data researchers to ask questions

through an interview. The questions will serve as a guide for the researchers to plan out

their next course of action.

The researchers will ask their target participants questions during the interview. All

answers during the interview will be accepted by the researchers without any bias
whether it is a positive or a negative response to the question given to them, and they will

also serve as evidence or data so that the study will be sufficient.

Data Analysis

The researchers of this study used phenomenological analysis. Phenomenological

analysis is a broad and loose name for various types of analysis based on the

phenomenological orientation of the Philosophy of science. These orientations lay

emphasis on experiences, interpretations and bodily sensations.
