Pelagio - Fs Module Lesson 1 3
Domain 4 addresses teachers’ knowledge of and interaction with the national and
local curriculum requirements. This Domain encompasses their ability to translate
curriculum content into learning activities that are relevant to learners and based on
the principles of effective teaching and learning. It expects teachers to apply their
professional knowledge to plan and design, individually or in collaboration with
colleagues, well-structured and sequenced lessons. These lesson sequences and
associated learning programs should be contextually relevant, responsive to
learners’ needs and incorporate a range of teaching and learning resources. The
Domain expects teachers to communicate learning goals to support learner
participation, understanding and achievement.
Specifically, the Domain on Curriculum and Planning envisions beginning teachers
to possess the following competencies:
1. Prepare developmentally sequenced teaching and learning process to
meet curriculum requirements.
2. Identify learning outcomes that are aligned with learning competencies.
3. Demonstrate knowledge in the implementation of relevant and responsive
learning programs.
4. Seek advice concerning strategies that can enrich teaching practice.
5. Show skills in the selection, development and use of a variety of teaching
and learning resources, including ICT, to address learning goals.
LESSON 1
PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT OF TEACHING AND
LEARNING PROCESS
Planning is crucial for effective teaching and learning process. It is inevitable that teachers
should be skilled in preparing activities that are aligned with the curricular requirements.
More importantly, teachers need to prepare how to execute the plan in the classroom.
In this lesson, the pre-service teachers are expected to:
1. Describe the importance of lesson planning
2. Determine effective strategies for effective lesson planning
COMPETENCY INDICATOR
At the end of the session, the practice teachers (PTs) will be able to:
● Prepare developmentally sequenced teaching and learning process to
meet curriculum requirements.
Study the quotation below and answer the guide question that follow.
GUIDE QUESTION::
What does the quotation mean
to your classroom preparations?
This quote apparently
reflects how we teachers should
prepare our lessons and activities
for our class as it was also a part of
our profession. A teacher who does
not plan, do not only compromise
the students’ learning on the
content but also hinders their self
from various capabilities, skills and
opportunity that are essential for
the teaching-learning process.
OBSERVATION FOR CLARIFICATION
1. clearly state what you expect students will be able to do by the end of the ✔
instructional unit?
3. express what the learners will do (rather than what you, as the teacher, will ✔
do)?
3. make links between previous instruction and the current focus of learning? ✔
4. draw on what learners are aware of and what they already know about the ✔
topic?
Do the learning activities…
1. provide feedback to both the teacher and the students on the learning that ✔
has occurred?
1. show students explicitly how evaluation aligns with the objectives and ✔
teaching/learning activities?
GUIDE QUESTION::
What features of the lesson plan do you find notable?
The feature I found most interesting in the lesson plan is that the teacher is willing to
adjust in the current setup. The teacher also tends to try catching the students’ attention
through the activities formulated but it seems to lack creativity and very alike to the
DepEd learning module
GUIDE QUESTION::
How do you think can the plan be improved?
In my perspective, the plan can be improved with a much clearer goal for the lesson.
The alignment of the activities are a bit off and attain a lower level of learning on the
students’ part. It could start to be more creative, measurable and improved by starting
with the objectives.
REALIZATIONS THROUGH
REFLECTIONS
REFLECTION PAPER
Directions:
1. Go over with the two previous activities, gather your thoughts and reflect the practices
that you have in mind and the learnings you have acquired from the observation.
2. Write a reflection paper that relates to planning and management of the teaching and
learning process.
3. Provided below is the scoring rubric for you to be guided in crafting your output.

“The best preparation for tomorrow is by doing your best today.” This is the quote
that reminds me of how we should plan and strategize on effectively formulating our
lessons. As lesson planning enables us to be direct and be prompt with our learning goals,
this will make it possible for us to ensure our students’ learning. Also, planning ahead of time
do not just increases teacher’s management capacity but also gives us sufficient time to
revise and improve our initial lesson plan.
In managing appropriate techniques for our lessons, we must first be mindful of our
target learners, from their level, prior knowledge and essential content for them to learn.
Upon being aware of this, we must be clear on our learning target and this learning target
will be our basis in crafting our content and activities. We must make sure of the alignment
of these activities (in every part/aspect of the lesson) for our learning process to be authentic
and precise.
The classroom observations and realizations I have acquired enables me to be much
dedicated and willing to improve my management and planning skills. Along with this, I
realized that teaching does not only depends on the teachers’ teaching capacity but also on
their planning stage. I have already perceptive the lesson planning theoretically and
firsthand on our previous year but this time, I have appreciated how essential it is in the
learning process of the students and our role in making it possible. In this, I would like to
imply that our profession does more than it seems, challenging but also a very fulfilling one.
CONFIRMATION OF PASSION
“Like stars on Earth, every child is special.” The movie pique the interest of its viewers
through its clear purpose of making us understand the unique process of learning. The
movie starts with normal occurrence in a life of a typical boy, Ishaan. Unlike from children
around his age, our main character seems to be very different. He was often compared to his
older brother that is actually a realistic scenario within a household. As his family seems to
think of him as someone who is annoying and disobedient. In this part, it made me reflect
on the previous lessons within this modules, like how was the student’s learning
environment essential in their development. I believe that students’ learning starts at home
which begins when parents understand their children and their needs. I personally think
that this is the first conflict in the story, as Ishaan is not able to understand himself due to his
young age, the elder must make effort to do that for him.
The story goes on as the parents decides to send Ishaan to a boarding school. In
there, he meets his new art teacher, Nikumbh whose teaching approach seems totally
different from his strict teachers. Nikumbh tries to make an effort to understand Ishaan’s
situation. It is admirable that he tries to reach out his parents to explain the reason for
Ishaan’s poor performance in school is because of his dyslexia. This was described as the
difficulty to read and write like other children usually do but clarifies that this was not an
indicator of low intelligence. The movie goes as Nikumbh continuously teach and never give
up on enabling Ishaan to learn which is meaningful as his grades improved in a matter of
time. His patience and determination was indeed fruitful as he guided a once lost learner to
discover his real talent, self and feel loved by people around him.
The movie is an ideal and must-watch for us pre-service teachers. It gives us a brief
overview of realistic situations that students may face within their self, family, and in life. As I
watch, I tend to see patterns and symbolize them in the learnings I have acquired from the
previous lessons. The teacher, Nikumbh’s perseverance and willingness to help his student is
astounding. He shows the length a teacher may do in order to make his student excel while
Ishaan is an example of a student that needs immense effort and understanding. The film
opens our eyes to the reality of what we may face in the field. It is not enough to just teach
idly but also plan for the steps we ought to take followed by thorough management &
execution of our plans. It is touching how the movie shows us to eliminate prejudice and
open our hearts to empathize with our students. I believe that a sincere and concrete step in
learning starts with empathy and closely followed by action, this was what the film taught
me.

LESSON PLANNING
Directions:
1. You are now about to complete this module. As you end, you will plan your first ever
actual teaching by writing your lesson plan in your preferred topic.
2. You will create two lesson plans with the same topic using two formats: MEDIA model
used by ITL and Daily Learning Plan (DLP) used by public schools.
3. Ensure that you incorporate the principles of curriculum and planning in writing your
lesson plan.
4. Have your lesson plan checked by your respective SI/SP.
5. Post a copy of your corrected lesson plan in this section.
