1 Introduction
The main aim of this community service proposal is to provide a technical training on
engineering software skill. Based on a rough need assessment, this project has identified four
categories of software and workshops that are believed essential to the profession of target
groups (Geometric design of streets, Project schedule, Structural analysis, Spatial data analysis).
The end users are mainly those who transferred from Woldia University.
This project proposal document includes sections on the proposed time and budget for
implementing Arc-GIS software training. Profile of proposed trainers and sample certificate
expected to be provided at the end of the training are also attached in the appendix. Most of the
resources (computer laboratory and class rooms) are already available at Wolkite University.
Accordingly, the budget breakdown is expected to cover the cost of workshop materials and fees
for trainees and trainers.
2 Justification
Develop skill and knowledge of trainees on engineering software;
Enhanced technology transfer and adoption skills will contribute to country’s economic
development;
Skilled trainees will be positive asset to the students as well as to the organization both
directly or indirectly in general;
And financially the service is fund free.
4 Strategy
1) Train the candidates how to use the selected software
2) Monitor the training will delivered as planned and assessed
3) Certify the candidates that are trained well.
5 Project activities
Need assessment or identify or prioritizing value chain remarkable to gurage zone
Planning how to deliver the selected software
Giving proactive software training to the candidates
Perform technology adoption on identified and prioritized value chain
Signing memorandum of understanding and certifying the candidate
6 Project Beneficiaries
Based on the need assessment, the majority of beneficiaries may be Zonal, City, town
government employee in
Poly-Technique College
Construction permit and supervision office
Land administration office
Urban Planning office
Wolkite university admirative staffs
Gurage zone administrative public speakers
However, the beneficiaries are not limited to the above listed ones. Other beneficiaries (students,
researchers, government/private employees) are welcome to join the training. Based on available
number of classrooms, prioritization will be given to government employees. Further criteria
could be prepared in case the number of applicants exceed the classroom size 25-30.
7 Stakeholders
Implementation of this community service project requires multidisciplinary professionals from
different departments in Wolkite University, College of Engineering and Technology (Table 2).
Trainers are also expected to be certified in other local or international office and have practical
experience in software usage.

9 Sustainability
Technical sustainability
The technical feasibility will not in question as far as the technological consultation and pro-
active
trainings are offered by qualified and relevant staffs.
Financial sustainability
The project work is planned to accomplish the intended objectives as per mentioned phases. As
long as the project work is done intensively in the mentioned phases of project timeline in
accordance with affordable cost; hence, the project can be considered as economically viable.
