How did the two rival factions of Katipunan—Magdalo and Magdiwang—

come about? Who were the sources of the historical accounts? How can
the three accounts contribute to your understanding of the first Philippine
Republic?

The Katipunan is a very well progressive development that has its


own structure and its own officials. It had a framework set up which
included common units. The Katipuneros were divided into two groups. The
first group is the Magdiwang led by Andres Bonifacio and was outlined in
Noveleta, Cavite on the second of April 1896, and the other rival group was
Magdalo led by Emilio Aguinaldo was outlined in Kawit, Cavite on the third
of April 1896. Katipuneros was divided because they had a
misunderstanding that is due to the envy and personal ambition of each.
The result was a heated dispute and the formation of two rival groups in
Cavite, the Magdalo against the Magdiwang.

There are three (3) historical accounts that are mentioned. The
Artemio Ricarte’s Account; Artemio Ricarte was one of the officials of
Magdiwang faction and he served as a secretary of the convention when
Bonifacio began presiding over the session. Andres Bonifacio’s Account;
this record by Andres Bonifacio is from a letter he kept in touch with Emilio
Jacinto. This would be the first run through different individuals from the
Supreme Council would know about the occasions that occurred in Cavite.
Santiago Alvarez’s Account; Alvarez was an immediate member and
observer to the occasions that happened in the assembly. The record of the
Tejeros Convention is found in Chapter 32 of Gen. Santiago Alvarez's
diaries.

The three sources of contributed to me the different lessons in the


first Philippine Republic. It shows me the reality in politics and I have found
out how here the first presidential and vice presidential elections in
Philippine history, it specify the kinds of elections that happened. It was
established in my mind that we should have accomplished something in our

studies. Because the account said that Bonifacio was not declared as
Secretary of Interior because they said that he was not educated.
