MULTIPLYING MIXED DECIMALS AND DECIMALS WITH

FACTORS UP TO 2 DECIMAL PLACES

I. Introductory Concept
Decimals are everywhere. They are present whenever we deal with
money, foods, ingredients, etc. But most of us find them difficult to deal with.
This is because we confine our Mathematical ability in dealing with whole
numbers only. In this learning Activity you will learn how to multiply mixed
decimals and decimals with factor up to 2 decimals places. This acquired skills
would soon be applied in your everyday lives.

II. Learning skills from the MELCs

multiply mixed decimals and decimals with factors up to 2 decimal
places. (M6NS-Ie-111.3)

a. Multiply all the digits in the multiplicand by all the digits in the
multiplier. To start off, multiply all the digits in the multiplicand by
the first digit of the multiplier. Then multiply all the digits in the
multiplicand by the second digit of the multiplier. Indent your answer
one number to the left of the first partial product. Do the same step if
there is a third or fourth digit in the multiplier.
b. Add all the partial products. Make sure they are properly aligned.
c. Count the number of decimal places in the multiplicand and
multiplier to know the number of decimal places in the product.
The number of decimal places in the factors is equal to the number of
decimal places in the product counting from left to right.
