This procedure gives instructions for the assembly of the radial struts turbine frame assembly. Refer to Figure 1002 .

Assembly of the turbine frame assembly should not be attempted until persons are familiar with step-by-step instructions contained in this procedure.
C.
Appropriate use of special tools referred to in this procedure will help prevent damage.
D.

Before assembly, identify the parts and make sure they have been inspected.

Ensure that mating faces and locating diameters (rabbets) are free from any foreign material or high metal.

3. Procedure. NOTE: The turbine frame is in a storage container. Subtask 72-56-00-440-051 - Installation A. Installation of turbine frame ( 01-190;72-56-00 ) or ( 01-191;72-56-00 ) or ( 01-192;72-56-00 ) or ( 01-193;72-56-00 ), ( 01-194;72-56-00 ), or ( 01-195;72-56-00 ) on dolly, 856A2646G01 or trunnion dolly , 856A2544G02 . Refer to Figure 1001 . 1. 2. Install two handling segments, 856A2712G01 , on the turbine frame. Remove the turbine frame from its storage container with a lifting beam, 856A2627G02 , or lifting beam, 856A2627G03 , or lifting beam, 856A2627G04 , or lifting beam, 856A2627G05 , and lower it on the dolly.

Remove the caps from the oil scavenge and oil supply tubes.

Install fitting ( 05-280;72-56-00 ) on tube ( 01-240;72-56-00 ). Insert the oil supply tube by the outer case through the strut No. 10. Attach the fitting ( 05-280;72-56-00 ) to the frame with the bolts ( 05270;72-56-00 ). Tighten with hand. Put the connector nut ( 01-230;72-56-00 ) in position on the tube ( 01240;72-56-00 ). Make sure you align the grooves of the tube and nut. Insert the wire swivel connector ( 01-220;72-56-00 ) into the hole of the connector nut with installation and removal fixture, 856A2677G01 .

Subtask 72-56-00-440-052 - Installation B. Installation of the overboard drain tube. Refer to Figure 1002 and Figure 1003 . 1. Install the overboard seal drain tube ( 01-170;72-56-00 ) and spacer ( 01-168;72-5600 ) in the flooding boss on the LPT frame between the struts No. 8 and No. 9. Apply a thin layer of Graphite compound (CP2101) to the threads of bolts ( 01160A;72-56-00 ), and attach the overboard seal drain tube and spacer assembly.

Start with the blanket located between struts No. 16 and No. 1. Continue clockwise (CW), aft looking forward. Refer to Figure 1004 . caution: DO NOT TIGHTEN TOO MUCH TO PREVENT THE DETERIORATION OF THERMAL INSULATION BLANKETS. 2. Install strut set, 856A2771G01 , on each insulation blanket assembly to attach the parts to the LPT frame. Refer to Figure 1005 .

Alternative Configuration Available. Apply a thin layer of Graphite compound (CP2101) to the threads of bolts ( 01-120;72-56-00 ), and attach the parts. Do not torque.

Installation of the air heater cover. Refer to Figure 1006 . WARNING: ACETONE IS EXPLOSIVE, AN IRRITANT, AN ALLERGEN, AND HAS POISONOUS DETERIORATION. USE PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT. USE VAPOR/FUME CONTROLOR A RESPIRATOR.

Clean the mating face of the air heater cover ( 01-090;72-56-00 ) and the corresponding face of the LPT frame, with a clean cloth and acetone (CP1039) . NOTE:SB 72-270 Engine does not have metallic gasket ( 01-110;72-56-00 ).

Increase the temperature of the aft locating diameter of the air heater cover to 140F (60C) with a heat gun.
WARNING: USE HEAT INSULATED GLOVES WHEN YOU TOUCH CHILLED OR HEATED PARTS TO PREVENT INJURY TO YOUR HANDS.

Install the air heater cover ( 01-090;72-56-00 ). Align the offset hole of the air heater cover with the offset hole of the frame. Use guide pin, 856A2702G01 , to verify alignment. NOTE:The two offset holes are identified by an indentation.

Clean the mating face of the heat shield ( 01-080;72-56-00 ) with a clean cloth and trichloroethylene (CP1008) or acetone (CP1039) . Install the shield on the aft face of the thermal insulation blankets. Apply a thin layer of Graphite compound (CP2101) to the threads of the studs on the LPT case and attach the heat shield with the nuts ( 01-075;72-56-00 ). Torque the nuts ( 01-075;72-56-00 ) to 100-110 lb in. (11,5-12,5 N.m). Torque the bolts ( 01-120;72-56-00 ) to 100-110 lb in. (11,5-12,5 N.m). Refer to Figure 1004 .

Subtask 72-56-00-440-056 - ACA F. Alternative Configuration Available. Installation of the adjusting sleeve ( 01-030;72-56-00 ) on the No. 5 bearing support. Refer to Figure 1007 (Configuration One). Clean and degrease the bore of the No. 5 bearing support ( 01-060;72-56-00 ) and the adjusting sleeve with trichloroethylene (CP1008) or acetone (CP1039) . Install the new adjusting sleeve 01-030;72-56-00 on the tapped rod of the No. 5 bearing puller, 856A3443G03 . Apply a thin layer of Loctite 241 (CP2256) to the outer surface of the sleeve.

Increase the temperature of the No. 5 bearing support, in the tight-fitting area of the adjusting sleeve, to approximately 210F (100C) with a heat gun.
WARNING: USE HEAT INSULATED GLOVES WHEN YOU TOUCH CHILLED OR HEATED PARTS TO PREVENT INJURY TO YOUR HANDS.

Rapidly engage the adjusting sleeve in the bore of the No. 5 bearing support ( 01060;72-56-00 ), and fully engage with a tapped rod and a soft head mallet. NOTE:This operation must be done nonstop. If the tight-fitting process is stopped, even for 10 or 15 seconds, the adhesive will cure before the normal time.

Remove the tools and let the temperature of the components decrease to ambient.
Subtask 72-56-00-440-057 SB 72-0212 *** - AC F. Alternative Configuration. Installation of No. 5 bearing support adjusting sleeve ( 01-035;72-5600 ). Refer to Figure 1007 (Configuration2). Clean and degrease the bore of No. 5 bearing support ( 01-061;72-56-00 ) and adjusting sleeve using trichloroethylene (CP1008) or acetone (CP1039) . Position the new shouldered adjusting sleeve ( 01-035;72-56-00 ) onto the tapped rod of No. 5 bearing puller, 856A3443G03 . Apply MoS2 Dry Film Lubricant (CP5062) on the outer diameter of adjusting sleeve ( 01-035;72-56-00 ).

Heat No. 5 bearing support in the tight-fitting area of the adjusting sleeve, to approximately 390F (200C) using a heat gun.

Rapidly engage the adjusting sleeve into the bore of the No. 5 bearing support ( 01061;72-56-00 ) and seat using a soft head mallet. Install a weight of approximately 9 lb in. (4 Kg) on the tapped rod. Remove the tools and allow the components to return to ambient temperature.

Make sure that the gap between the rear flange of the adjusting sleeve and the face of No. 5 bearing support is within 0-0.004 inch (0-0,1 mm). Refer to Figure 1007 .

Install one of the, guide pin, 856A2702G01 , in the offset hole of the No. 5 bearing support ( 01-060;72-56-00 ). Engage the setscrew of the pin in the extraction hole adjacent to the offset hole. Refer to Figure 1008 . NOTE:The offset hole on the locating diameter of the No. 5 bearing support is identified by an indentation.
b.
Install the three other pins of the guide pin, 856A2702G01 , in the other extraction holes.

Increase the temperature of the locating diameter of the No. 5 bearing support ( 01060;72-56-00 ) to 230-250F (110-120C) with a heat gun.
WARNING: USE INSULATED GLOVES WHEN YOU TOUCH CHILLED ORHEATED PARTS TO PREVENT INJURY TO YOUR HANDS.

Install the No. 5 bearing support on the front face of the turbine frame. Set the support to align the oil scavenge tube located on the No. 7 strut. Align the offset hole of the support with the offset hole of the frame. NOTE:The offset holes are identified by an indentation located above the hole drilled on the front face of the turbine frame, and on the outer diameter of the bearing support.

Apply a thin layer of Graphite compound (CP2101) to the threads of eight equallyspaced bolts ( 01-050;72-56-00 ). Install the bolts and attach with the nuts ( 01040;72-56-00 ). Let the temperature of the components decrease to ambient. Remove the bolts ( 01-050;72-56-00 ) and the nuts ( 01-040;72-56-00 ). Remove the guide pin, 856A2702G01 . Apply a thin layer of Graphite compound (CP2101) to the threads of the remaining bolts ( 01-050;72-56-00 ), and install all bolts on the No. 5 bearing support. Install the nuts ( 01-040;72-56-00 ), and torque to 185-205 lb in. (21-23 N.m). Refer to Figure 1008 .

Subtask 72-56-00-440-062 WARNING: ENGINE OIL IS TOXIC. USE PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT. USE IN AWELL-VENTILATED AREA. Apply a thin layer of engine oil (CP2442) to the threads of oil scavenge tube installed on the bearing support. Handtighten the tube coupling nut located in the No. 7 strut. Set in position the end fitting ( 05-300;72-56-00 ) and attach it with bolts ( 01-180;72-56-00 ). Tighten the bolts with your hand. caution: YOU MUST ALWAYS INSTALL THE COUNTER WRENCH 856A3491G02 ON THE NIPPLE OF THE NO. 5 BEARING SUPPORT WHEN YOU LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT OF THE OIL SCAVENGE TUBE. THIS IS TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE NIPPLE. Install the ring of the counter wrench, 856A3491G02 on the No. 5 bearing support. Install the counter wrench, 856A3491G02 on the nipple of the No. 5 bearing support. Hand-tighten the stop screw to put it tightly in contact with the ring. Refer to figure 1009 sheet 4 . Torque the nut of the oil scavenge tube to 445-535 lb in. (50-60 N.m). Safety with Safetywire 0.032 in. (0,8 mm) Dia (Inconel) (CP8001) . Remove the counter wrench, 856A3491G02 from the No. 5 bearing support. Torque the bolts ( 01-180;72-56-00 ) to 100-110 lb in. (11,5-12,5 N.m). Install the safetywire.
Torque the oil scavenge tube sealing system locking nut to 50-55 lb in. (5,5-6,5 N.m). Secure with safety wire. NOTE:Pre SB 72-0364 engines do not have the sealing system. Step 3.H.(6) is not required. END SB 72-0364 ***

Clean the mating faces of the oil collector assembly ( 01-020;72-56-00 ) and of the air heater cover ( 01-090;72-56-00 ), with a clean cloth and trichloroethylene (CP1008) and acetone (CP1039) . Increase the temperature of the locating diameter of the air heater cover to 122F (50C), with a heat gun.

Apply a thin layer of Graphite compound (CP2101) to the threads of the bolts ( 01010;72-56-00 ).
WARNING: USE HEAT INSULATED GLOVES WHEN YOU TOUCH CHILLED OR HEATED PARTS TO PREVENT INJURY TO YOUR HANDS.

Install the oil collector assembly ( 01-020;72-56-00 ) on the air heater cover ( 01090;72-56-00 ), and attach hand tight with six equally-spaced bolts ( 01-010;72-56-00 ). Let the temperature of the parts decrease to ambient, and remove the six bolts ( 01010;72-56-00 ) installed before. Install all bolts ( 01-010;72-56-00 ), and torque them to 100-110 lb in. (11,5-12,5 N.m).
