writer.

3. Who is the protagonist of the poem?

The protagonist of the poem is a Higaonon.

4. What is the conflict of the poem?

The conflict of the poem exists between two personas. A conflict between
Higaonon tribe and colonizers.

5. What does the author mean when he said, “I not laugh you kneel on dead
tree or you pray to hanging God there”?

The author is implying that he is not prejudiced or disrespectful of the

colonizers' beliefs. Despite their cultural and religious differences, he did not pass
judgment on who they [colonizers] prayed to and believed in.

6. How is the word tongue used in stanza 7?

The word tongue in stanza 7 was used as the representation of the

language.
7. Who do you identify yourself with in the personas in the poem?

8. What can you say about the author’s style of writing?

9. What lesson have you learned from the poem?

One thing I've taken from the poem is the value of respect. Each of us
grows up in a different environment, with different philosophies,
customs, and cultures, yet respect is one thing that could bring us all together.
Respect should always be a part of our lives, no matter where we are or what
we're doing, especially when it comes to our indigenous people. Others are
prejudiced and hypocritical towards them although they live quietly and
respectfully in their territories and practice their religion and customs. Stop
condemning people because they don't share our perspectives and beliefs;
instead, start being polite and educated with their culture if you want respect
returned to you.

10. As a student, how will you show sensitivity and appreciation to people who
belong to a cultural minority?

As a student, I can demonstrate sensitivity and appreciation for persons

who are members of a cultural minority by first learning about their culture and
values, as well as the contrasts between our cultures and lifestyles. By studying
their culture, I can quickly grasp what I should and shouldn't do in order for them
to feel empowered and propagate their culture around the world without feeling
criticized. Literature is one way to demonstrate this. Literature plays an essential
role in our lives and, more importantly, in the lives of various cultural minorities,
as it serves as a means for them to promote their culture and beliefs, as well as
their voices in the face of prejudice and hypocrisy. Another way I can
demonstrate sensitivity and appreciation for the cultural minority as a student is
to read, absorb, and suggest books written by members of the cultural minority.
