Description:

Royal Bank of Scotland is a leading banking and financial services company which provides a
comprehensive range of financial services: personal banking, commercial banking, insurance, investment
planning and wealth management. My responsibilities in this bank were to support multiple SQL Server
2005 and SQL Server 2008 databases.

Roles and Responsibilities:

 Performed daily tasks including Health checkup of all the servers.


 Monitoring the servers by using SQL Server 2005 tools like SQL Server Management Studio,
SQL Server Profiler and SQL Server Agent.
 Handling the Deadlock situations and monitoring the servers when the database blockages are
happened resolve the problem.
 Performance Tuning and Troubleshooting of SQL Server databases and complex T-SQL and
Stored Procedures
 Managing Logins, users and resources.
 Creation of users, roles and managing security implement effective database security practices
and procedures.
 Provided 24 x 7 Production support for the database and application issues.
 Solved production problems and performed point in time recovery plans.
 Configuring and maintenance of the Log shipping environment.

A TBO (Total Benefit Outsourcing) application provides a variety of services for business disciplines
relating to Defined Contribution, Defined Benefit and Health & Welfare. These services include: Systems
Development. Systems Maintenance, Business and systems Analysis, Business and systems support,
Business and systems testing, Business and systems project management, and consulting services.

There are two plans under TBO:


 Defined Benefits
 Defined Contribution
The following sub applications are covered under TBO:
 RKS(Record Keeping System)
 CMS(Cash Management System)
 HAS (Health Saving System)

Roles and Responsibilities:

 Installing and Configuring SQL Server 2000/2005


 Planned and executed of any upgrade such as Service Pack, Hot fixes.
 Checking daily backups like full, differential and T-log
 Handling Incidents/Change requests as per the SLA metrics defined
 Migration of SQL Server databases.
 Designing Databases and Consistency Checks.
 Database Backup and Recovery.
 Database Administration and Maintenance
 Creating and implementing disaster recovery plans.
 Managing Security (Creating users, logins and roles, granting permissions)
 Performance Monitoring and tuning.
 Ensuring Data consistency in the database through DBCC commands.
 Adding users in the Database and granting permissions.
 Scheduling jobs in SQL Server.
 Solving space issues like Tempdb and log file issues
 Working with US and UK team and management on Alert consolidation and weekly
response calls
