ROUNDING DECIMALS
Sometimes decimals have many digits. They are hard to use. So, we round them.
Example: Round five and thirty-nine hundredths to the nearest tenth. “≈” means
“approximately
equals”
5.39 ≈ 5.4
We say: Five and thirty-nine hundredths approximately equals five and four
tenths, to the nearest tenth.
To round to the nearest whole number (units): look at the tenths place.
To round to the nearest tenth: look at the hundredths place.
To round to the nearest hundredth: look at the thousandths place.
To round to the nearest thousandth: look at the ten-thousandths place.
