Summation Notation:
MEAN:
MEDIAN:
set/observations)
Given this RAW DATA: 98, 5, 41, 27, 88, 45, 53, 69, 93, 91, 31, 53, 22, 13, 10, 72, 85, 7, 14, 1
Number of Elements/Observations/Data: 20
Other Function/s
=countn(the data/rows in excel)
*counts all the rows with value(mapa text o number man)
Sum of Data/Elements/Observations: 918
Mean: 45.9 (this is derived from 918/20) *there is no mean function in EXCEL manually create the
formula “=SumCell/NumCell”
Given the same Data Set(ordered/sorted) above, lets find the following percentiles, 20th, 50th and 99th.
• 20th
o nk/100 -> (20*20)/100 -> 400/100 -> 4
o Then we get the X(4) + X(5) in the Data Set (the 4th and 5th value)
o (10 + 13)/2 -> 23/2 =
o 11.5
• 50th
o nk/100 -> (50*20)/100 -> 1000/100 -> 10
o Then we get the X(10) + X(11) in the Data Set (the 10th and 11th value)
o (41 + 45)/2 -> 86/2 =
o 43
o Note: that the 50th percentile is also the median of the data set
• 99th
o nk/100 -> (99*20)/100 -> 1980/100 -> 19.8
o we round 19.8 to 20(since this is the closest integer higher than 19.8)
o then we just get X(20) – the 20th value in the Data Set
o 98
nito yun computation)
The function in EXCEL is “=percentile()” there are other functions including percentile – feel free to
explore.
madali lang to makita at imanual compute)
Notes for Range
EXCEL FUNCTION:
• Range = Max Value – Min Value
• Range = 98 – 1 =Max(Dataset) – Min(Dataset)
• Range = 97
VARIANCE
POPULATION VARIANCE
SAMPLE VARIANCE
The Difference between the two is that the number of elements/data/observations used.
In Population Variance we used all the data, while in Sample Variance is the number of data
used in the sample minus – 1.
We first get the values for this or this (both have the
same functions)
• Get the Difference of the Value in the Dataset with the Mean – isubtract ang isang value sa
dataset sa Mean nito
• Then Squared the result of the Difference – imultiply sa sarili yun resulta ng pagsubract kanina
• Do this for all the Values in the dataset – gawin to lahat sa data na meron tayo.
• Then, finally Add all the Values.
EXCEL Function:
=var.p(dataset) – may “p” dahil population variance
• After getting the Sum of Squared of the Dataset we divide it with the number of
o Kapag population yun buong data
