Module 10-12
The Seven Arts: A Journey to the Creative Imagination

I. Learning Outcomes

At the end of this module, the students are expected to:

1. Discuss comprehensively the nature, scope and features of seven (7) arts
2. Discuss painting, architecture, sculpture, dance, music, theater (drama) and literature as forms of arts
3. Discuss, describe and explain cinema and other contemporary art forms
4. Apply all the themes and concepts learned through the different art workshops
5. Perform the different art forms through recorded video

II. Introduction

This module presents the dance, music, drama as a performance arts and film as an art. Lesson 1: Elements of
Architecture refers to the art of designing a buildings or structures; the art and design of building. It also tackles the
different basic requirements in architectural design as well as the style of paintings. Lesson 2: Creative Movement:
Performance Arts which focus on the elements of dance, music, drama and film as an art. Lesson 3: TANGLAW: Film
as an Art focus on the different films produced by the different artists.

The Seven Arts: Homage to the Humanities

1. Historic architecture- has gone through a long cycle of development; what one sees today is the product of the
combination of past principles and styles; the history of architecture is important for us to understand what made the
architecture of the present day possible.

2. Contemporary architecture- is the present art and science designing and constructing building.

Basic Requirements in Architectural Design:


1. “Form of Follows Function” is a cardinal rule in designing because architecture is more concerned with utilization of
space.
2. The design must make sense means that the design should help create features or provisions to achieve its purpose.
3. It must be interesting means that the building or structure should be beautiful, both in and out; the design should
attract attention and interest to public.

 Architectural Styles- or designs emerged from evolution of techniques and styles particular to a culture in a given
period. This refers to the styles that have slowly evolved through the ages.

TANGLAW: Film as an Art

Film: It is a series of images that are projected into a series to create the illusion of motion.

 Film Literacy is the act of arguing knowledge and values through the use of movies. A film that supports education
through film viewing promotes literacy be it a feature film, documentary, animation, short film, video, television
program and interactive media.
 Film, being the most popular term, is used here to refer to motion pictures and the moving picture media in any of
the forms previously stated.
 Literacy as used in this text-manual is defined as the ability to “read” audio- visual symbols (although not all may be
able to adopt cognitive ways for a more functional and critical regard of media in their content, forms and functions.
 Film performs functions that may be symbolic media also do, (mainly communicate); film’s symbolic signs (words,
sounds, musicz0 are produced to mean something.
