Project Title
From the time I started the course, I’ve learned all my filmmaking skills from scratch (besides a little 3D
modelling and editing). The skills I have learned include knowledge of Premiere Pro for intermediate
level editing, some After Effects basics, directing, camera operating, in camera transitions, showreel
editing, storyboarding, sound design including recording foley, multi camera production, and some
beginner Blender skills in my spare time so far.
The reason I have decided on this idea for my final project is that I want to push myself to learn and
incorporate 3D modelling skills and prepare myself for the VFX course next year, as I would like to go
into 3D animation/VFX work in the future. Learning these 3D modelling skills and compositing with live
action footage will give me a head start and I think it will be a fun experiment for me too.
I am making a sci-fi/fantasy short film with a 3D modelled prop. I will have to make a 3D model for the
prop from scratch and composite it with live action footage, in combination with other various special
effects to make a sci-fi/fantasy sequence. I will use Blender for the 3D modelling and After Effects for
compositing. The model will be a perfect octahedron with a glowing mythological pantheon symbol on
each side. The general narrative will be that the character wakes up one day with this prop having
appeared in his house, he is now sure what it does or what this means, the prop will be glowing and
hovering on its own. The character turns on the TV and sees a news report saying that these objects
have appeared in everyone’s homes all over the world, and no one is sure what they do. As the
character tries to approach the object he will appear to be in pain and his eyes will turn black and red,
seemingly turning him evil. Cut to black and end on a cliffhanger.
