MINDMAZE
Objective:-
Teams have to build an autonomous robot that can follow a white line and keep track of directions
while going through the maze. The bot has to analyze the path in the dry run and has to go through the
maze from the starting point to the ending point in the minimum possible time.
Team specifications:-
1. A team can consist of a maximum of 4 members.
2. All team members must be of the same educational institute.
3. Multiple teams from the same educational institute are allowed.
4. A team can register as two separate teams provided, they are using two different bots.
5. All students with a valid Student identity card from their respective educational institutes are
eligible to participate.
Arena:-
The game field consists of an arena having dimensions 208 cm X 208 cm (lxb). It consists of the
following:
1. The arena is composed of random paths made up of white Vinyl strips
2. The Angle between two adjacent white lines in the path is 90°.
3. The width of all white stripes will be 30mm.
4. The figure below shows the sample arena. The actual arena at the competition will have a
different design.
5. A white box of 300 mm x 300 mm is present at the start and end zones of the arena to indicate the
start and end positions respectively.
Gameplay:-
The gameplay consists of two parts:-
1. The first part is the “Dry Run Phase”. In this phase, the bot must start from the ‘Start’ and sketch its
way to reach the ‘End’ (White box Indicated in figure 1) of the arena.
● The bot has to give a signal by glowing an LED whenever it reaches a junction, as soon as it
senses. The same must happen when the bot reaches the white box below it at the end.
● The bot has to follow an algorithm to find its path to reach ‘End’ and the bot can store the
necessary information in its memory to follow the shortest path during the second part as
described in the third point. There are no restrictions to cover all the checkpoints during the
dry run.
2. The team is now allowed to pick the robot from the end zone and place it back at the start zone.
3. The second part is the “Actual Run Phase”. In this run, the bot has to restart from the ‘Start’ again
and finds its way to the ‘End’ through the best possible path by following the path that was stored in
the dry run phase.
● The ‘End Zone’ has a white box of 300mm x 300mm (lxb) that indicates the end of the path for
the bot. The timer will be set to zero as the “Actual Run Phase” begins.
● However, the total time taken for the robot shall be measured as well as per the scoring
criteria.
4. The time count will start when the robot comes out of the starting box.
Bot Specifications:-
1. The autonomous bot must fit into the box of dimensions 220 mm X 220 mm X 220 mm (lxbxh).
2. The Bot must be started individually by only one switch. However, a team may have an onboard
switch for the restart.
● This switch has to be shown to the organizer before the run.
3. The Bot must have an LED(preferably red) that glows upon reaching any junction or the end zone of
the arena.
4. During the run, the autonomous bot must not damage the arena in any way. It is not allowed to
leave anything behind or make any marks while traversing the arena.
● Any bot found damaging the arena will be severely penalized (or even disqualified). The final
decision is at the discretion of the organizers.
5. The Bot must have an ‘on board’ power supply.
6. The potential difference between any 2 points must not exceed 24 V at any point of time during the
game.
7. The autonomous bot should not separate or split into two or more units.
● All bots/units which are touching each other or are in the starting point will be considered as
one bot.
8. The Machine cannot be constructed using ready-made kits like ‘Lego kits’ or any other ready-made
mechanisms. If used must be declared to the organizer prior to the event.
9. Readymade gear assemblies can be used.
10. Violating this clause will lead to disqualification of the team from the event.
Game Rules:-
1. Teams will be given 1 minute for calibration. If any team is found to alter its code after depositing
its bots, then it will be immediately disqualified from the competition.
2. They are however allowed to make any other hardware changes with prior permission from the
organizer.
3. Only one autonomous bot per team is allowed.
4. When the autonomous bot starts, no team member is allowed to touch the bot or enter the arena
until the end of the current phase.
5. At the start of the task, the bot will be placed at the start box. Only 1 team member is allowed to be
near the game field while starting the bot.
6. Run will start once organizers give the signal.
7. The starting procedure of the bot should be simple and should not involve giving bot any manual
force or impulse in any direction.
8. A total of 8 minutes will be given to each bot for finishing both the phases (and the division of time
is up to the team).
9. If a bot takes more than 10 minutes, it shall be manually removed from the arena field by one of the
team members as announced by the organizer. (Note: The Dry Run Phase should not exceed 6
minutes and the Actual Run Phase should not exceed 4 minutes).
● If the Dry Run Phase exceeds 6 minutes, the organizers may stop the attempt based on the
progress.
10. If a bot deviates from its path necessary penalties shall be applied to the robot as discussed in the
scoring section of this document.
Scoring:-
1. A = 50 points if the bot successfully completes the Dry Run within 5 minutes.
2. B = 360 - Total time taken in seconds in completing the Dry Run.
3. C = 10 points for glowing LED at each junction during Dry Run.
4. D = 40 Points if the bot successfully completes the Actual Run within 3 minutes.
5. E = 80 Points if the bot successfully completes the Actual Run along the shortest
path(actual).
5. F = 240 - Total time taken to complete the Actual Run.
6. G = 15 points for glowing LED at each junction during Actual Run.
7. H = 25 points for glowing the LED on reaching the end zone (10, during Dry Run and 15,
during Actual Run).
7. P1 = 10 * Number of times the bot has been reset to checkpoint during the Dry Run.
8. P2 = 15 * Number of times the bot has been reset to checkpoint during the Actual Run.
9. P3 = 5 * Number of times wrong Glowing of LED (i.e glowing when there is no junction)
during the Dry Run.
10. P4 = 10 *Number of times wrong Glowing of LED (i.e glowing when there is no junction)
during the Actual Run.
11. X = Design of the robot. The top three teams of design shall be awarded a bonus of 45,
30 and 15 points respectively based on the organizer’s decision.
Total Score = (A + B + C + D + E + G + H) – (P1 + P2 + P3 +P4) + X
Evaluation:-
1. Highest scoring team will be declared the winner.
2. In case of a tie, preference order shall be adopted as follows:
● Team with a shortest total time
● Team with the shortest time to finish Actual Run
● Team with the shortest time to finish Dry Run
● If the team has taken the shortest route.
● Team with the lesser penalties.
In any other case, organizers hold the right to declare the winner.
Certificate and Prizes:-
● Prizes are mentioned on the Tryst-2022 website. The Tryst Team reserves the right to
make changes in the prizes until 1 week before the actual competition based on the no.
of registrations received.
● Certificate of Excellence to Top 5 positions.
● Certificate of Participation to all legal entries.
● Disqualified teams will not be eligible for any certificate or prize.
