Module (TOS2 - TOPIC #3)

This document discusses analyzing continuous beams. It lists learning objectives of being able to analyze continuous beams using the three-moment equation and slope-deflection method, and knowing when to use each. Key terms related to continuous beam analysis are defined. The core content then explains how to analyze continuous beams using these two methods. Supplementary videos are provided and the session summary states that bridges are made of continuous beams, so their design requires analyzing continuous beams using one of the two main methods.

SESSION SUMMARY

Since bridges are basically made up of series of girders (continuous beams), it dictates that design of bridges
includes the analysis of continuous beams.
Two of the most used methods of analyzing continuous beams are the THREE-MOMENT EQUATION
METHOD and the SLOPE-DEFLECTION METHOD. Both methods have their advantages and disadvantages
against one another and it is important to know how to decide when to use one method from the other.
