Question 1
(a) (i) Define one Newton.
(ii) Write the relation SI unit and CGS unit of the force. [2]
(b) (i) How can moment of force can be zero when force itself is not zero? Give one example.
(ii) Where does the centre of gravity lie for?

(c) (i) Explain the motion of a planet around the sun in a circular path.
(ii) Sumit exerts a force of 150 N in pulling a cart at a constant speed of 10 ms-1. Calculate the

(d) A pulley system comprises two pulleys, one fixed and other movable.
(i) Draw a labelled diagram of the system and show all the forces clearly.
(ii) What change can be made in the movable pulley of this system to increase the mechanical
advantage of the system? [2]
(e) (i) Name a prism required for obtaining a spectrum of Ultraviolet light.
(ii) Name the radiations which can be detected by a thermopile. [2]

(a) A ball of mass 200 g falls from a height of 5 m. What will be the kinetic energy when it just reaches the
ground? ( g = 9.8 ms-2). [2]
(b) (i) Give an example when work done by a force acting on a body is zero even though the body
gets displaced from its initial position to the final position by the application of the force.
(ii) What is the work done by a boy of mass m when he climbs up a staircase of vertical height h?

(b) State two uses of infra radiation. [2]
(e) A boy of mass 50 kg runs upstairs and reaches the 8 m high first floor in five seconds. Calculate:
(i) The work done by him against gravity
(ii) The power developed by the boy. [2]

(a) An erect, diminished and virtual image is formed when an object is placed between the optical Centre and
the principal focus of a lens. [4]
(i) Name the type of lens, which forms the above image.

(b) A pulley system has a velocity ratio of 4 and efficiency of 90 %. Calculate:
