Instruction - Firmware Update - 2

Following detailed instructions describes step by step firmware updating procedure for VAMP
products.
- It is highly recommended to download and save device settings before starting the firmware
updating.
- Please, be aware that device is not functional during updating. Protection stages are not
operational and output relays may change it status during the updating process.
- Please, be aware that communication protocols are not functional during updating process.
Connections to SCADA system will be lost during the updating process.
- Always verify the parameters and settings of the relay after updating the firmware .
- Reconnect cables.

1. Connect programming cable between device front port (on the face of the device) and
computer.
- VX003, RS-232 programming cable (for Vamp 200, Vamp 100 and Vamp 40-series
devices.)
- VX052, USB programming cable (for Vamp 300/321 and 50-series devices).
2. Verify communication speed parameter for the updated device and for Vampset configuration
tool. Speed parameters in relay and Vampset have to be same.
Communication speed parameter for relay can be verified and changed (if needed) from the
local panel. Speed setting is located under the “conf” menu as shown in the picture below.

4. Set correct communication port and communication speed.

NOTICE!
- Using VX003 cable without USB to RS232 adapter maximum speed is 38400 bps.
- Using VX003 cable with USB to RS232 adapter maximum speed is 187500 bps.
- Device with firmware 6.xx and older, maximum speed is always 38400bps.

6. Confirm firmware updating by pressing “yes”.
7. Locate and select the file containing new firmware and press “open”.

PROBLEMS DURING THE FIRMWARE UPDATE
In case download process for some reasons is disturbed and download process stops, try start
firmware update again. In case update process does not continue, change communication speed to
38400bps (if 187500bps was selected earlier) and try again.
In case of “Download DB-Data” text appears to the device screen, database of the device needs to
be restored manually.

Click “yes” button to continue.

Choose relay’s backup file from the list and click “open” button. (Compare file name to device type
and serial number).

Vampset starts restoring the database. After completion of restoring, the relay will restart.
Notice!
If the relay is in state where Vampset communication cannot be established and script files are not
working either, “Two button start” may solve the problem in some cases.
1. Push “up” and “down” arrow from the relays front panel and hold them down.

6. Release “up” and “down” arrow buttons.
7. Download software to the relay with normal procedure. (Speed must be set to 38400 bps).
Choose “program settings” from the settings menu. Backup directory shows path where database file
(xxxxxxxx.ws) is saved by default.
NOTICE!
- Version 4.xx firmware should be updated via 6.74 to the latest 6.xx firmware. Firmware update
straight from version 4.xx to latest is not recommended.
- Version 10.xx firmware can be updated to the latest 10.xx firmware without any limitations.
In case firmware is needed to be downgraded, please contact vamp technical support for further
instructions.
