2 Activating AMD StoreMI

Complete the following steps to activate AMD StoreMI:
1. Open AMD StoreMI to view the storage devices eligible for use as source and cache
devices with AMD StoreMI.

2. Select the required hard drive in the SOURCE DEVICES pane.

3. Select an unformatted SSD with no partitions (an uninitialized disk) for the cache device.
Note: The caching SSD cannot be larger than the hard disk drive selected.
4. By default, the application will utilize the full capacity of the SSD unless the size is adjusted.
If you are an advanced user, refer the Partitioning section for details on using only a specific
amount of the SSD capacity for the AMD StoreMI device.
5. In the ACTIONS pane, click the Create button to create an AMD StoreMI disk configuration.
AMD StoreMI technology is activated for the hard drive and the SSD you selected.
6. To check your configuration, click the AMD StoreMI device to view the included disks and
overall cache utilization.

Note: The use percentage will grow over time as AMD StoreMI caches more data according
to your usage patterns. The cache will be frequently refreshed as your usage patterns
change and does not require any manual management.
7. If your data usage patterns have changed drastically and you want to manually flush your
cache, you can click the Clear Cache button in the Actions pane.
This may result in new data being promoted more quickly to the Cache portion of AMD
StoreMI.
You have activated AMD StoreMI.

3 Utilizing SSD Partitioning

This feature will allow you to utilize a portion of your SSD for use in AMD StoreMI, instead of using
the entire SSD for the cache. The remaining space that is not allocated to the AMD StoreMI cache
device will be available for use as a traditional storage by the Windows® OS.
Complete the following steps to utilize the SSD partitioning:
1. Open AMD StoreMI.
2. Select the desired storage devices available for use from the SOURCE DEVICES and
CACHE DEVICES panes.
3. To partition the SSD into a cache and traditional storage partition, adjust the slider to use
only a specific size for the cache portion of the AMD StoreMI device.

Note: By default, AMD StoreMI will utilize the full capacity of the SSD, unless the size is
adjusted. It requires a cache of at least 8 GB.
4. Click the Create button to create an AMD StoreMI disk configuration and SSD partition per
your parameters.
5. The remaining space, the max capacity of the SSD minus the space used for the cache will
be initialized in the AMD StoreMI driver and presented to the Windows®. This space will be
labeled as Partitioned Device in AMD StoreMI, the cache portion is similarly labeled, with

the size specified in the device view. The cache device is reserved for use in the AMD
StoreMI device, only the portion allocated to the partition is made available to the OS.

Note: Some space is used by AMD StoreMI for metadata. So, the cache size plus the
partition size may not add up to the max capacity of the drive.
The space allocated from the SSD to the Partitioned Device is available to the Windows®
OS.
6. To use the space, navigate to Disk Management. Complete the steps depicted in the next
three images to format the device, add a partition, and assign a drive letter.

The partitioned space is fully accessible in Windows® and the drive letter is displayed.
7. To change the size of your cache after creating a partition, disable any AMD StoreMI
devices using the Separate function and then back up your data before proceeding to delete
all the partitions created on the specific SSD device.
Note: All the data will be erased from the partition when deleted.
You have utilized the SSD partitioning.

Complete the following steps to disable AMD StoreMI:
To disable AMD StoreMI, click the Separate button, which will return the hard drive and SSD to the
state prior to enabling AMD StoreMI. If you are using the partitioning feature, you must delete them
manually.
Note: Back up your data before proceeding to delete any partitions that were created.
The Settings page provides information about maintaining AMD StoreMI and reaching out to the
support.

5 Uninstalling AMD StoreMI

Complete the following steps to uninstall AMD StoreMI:
1. Before uninstalling, use the Separate button to disable any AMD StoreMI and then, back up
your data. After backing up your data, delete any partitions that were created.
Note: The data will be removed from the partition when deleted.

During this process, if you have an active AMD StoreMI device or partitions, you will be
asked to confirm if you want to remove them and proceed. That will return the hard drive and
SSD to the state prior to enabling AMD StoreMI. Back up your data before proceeding to
delete any partitions that were created, as all the data be erased during the process.
