Answer the following questions:

6. Write any two features of LAN. (2)

Ans.: LAN stands for Local Area Network.
i. In LAN, two or more computers and peripheral
devices are connected within a small area, such as room, office building or a campus.
ii. In Local Area Network, computer terminals are physically connected with wires.
7. Explain the specified network terms: (2)
i. Resource Sharing
Ans.: In a computer network, all the hardware and software resources are shared among
the users of the network. It saves the time that is spent in transferring a file from one
machine to another using a storage device.
ii. Wireless Network
Ans.: Wireless Network allows the network to be deployed without cabling. Spaces, such as
outdoor areas where cables cannot be laid, can have wireless networks. Radio Waves or
Satellite signals are used for this network. Wireless Network Cards and Routers are required
for this type of network.

8. Describe Ring topology with diagram. (2)

Ans.: A ring network is a network topology in which each node connects to exactly two other
nodes, forming a single continuous pathway for signals through each node – a ring. Data
travels from node to node.
It is easy to set up and cost of implementation is also low.
In a ring topology is that if any individual node in the ring stops working, the entire network is
affected.

9. Explain the following terms: (2)

i. Internet
Ans.: The Internet is the global system of interconnected computer networks that uses
the Internet protocol to communicate between networks and devices. It is a network of
networks that consists of private, public, academic, business, and government networks.
The Internet carries a vast range of information resources and services, such as the inter-
linked hypertext documents and applications of the World Wide Web (WWW), and file
sharing.

ii. Network Architecture
Ans.: Network Architecture is an overall design of a computer that describes how a
computer network is configured and what strategies are being used.
Two types of Network Architecture are there: Client-Server Network and Peer-to-Peer
Network.
10. Explain Network Card and Network Cable? (2)
Ans.: Network Card is used to physically attach a computer to a network, so that it can participate
in network communication. Ethernet Network Card is the most commonly used network card.
Network Cable is containing eight wires, arranged in special order and a connector(RJ-45) to
connect your device to network.
11. What is network Security? Explain its levels. (5)
Ans.: Network Security means protecting data and resources from any unauthorized
access. It is the most important aspect in computer networking. Since many users are
accessing the same data, so we must ensure its proper security. Only authorized
persons can access or modify data.

There are two general levels of network security:

Login Security and Rights Security.
In Login Security, user is given unique login name and password.
In Rights Security, based on username, the user is given rights, like, Read-Only Access, or Read-
Write Access, or No Access at all.
