Installation
Installation requirements
The tool is developed with Visual Basic using the data access library for MS Access database.
Here are the system requirements to use the tool:
• 32-bit Windows operating system (W95 or higher, WNT4 SP3 or higher, W2000, WXP);
• Maximum hard drive space required: 25MB (lot of the used libraries should be already
present on most PC, so effective used space could be only a few MBs);
• Minimum RAM: 64MB;
• 800x600 screen resolution requested with 256 colors (1024x768 with 65000 colors
suggested);
• Internet Connection (required to use the Update feature);

Image 3. Launch of installation program

Step 6: Click on the “Finish” button to complete the installation process.

Image 4. End of installation program

At the end of installation process it will be probably asked to restart the system (this request
depends on which components were already present on the computer).

Image 5. Restart request

After the installation, in Start / Programs menu there will be the program’s group “ProCurve
Configurator” containing the shortcut to the program and to the present document.
There will also be a shortcut icon to the program on the desktop.

Uninstallation
To uninstall the ProCurve Configurator please use the Add/Remove Programs from the Control
Panel.
Select Settings / Control Panel in the Start menu, then click on Add/Remove Programs icon. A
new window shows the list of the installed programs: double-click on ProCurve Configurator to
uninstall the application.
Accessing the ProCurve Configurator Tool
To start the application, double-click on ProCurve Configurator icon on the desktop.
The first time the software starts, you have to select which country you are in. The tool will then
use the appropriate price list.
If you country is not displayed in the list, choose Others.

Image 6. Select Country window

Note: once the country has been confirmed, it cannot be changed anymore unless you uninstall and reinstall the entire
ProCurve Configurator application.

After choosing the country a message asks you if you would like to register to the ProCurve
Configurator e-mail distribution list. By selecting OK a new pre-written e-mail message is
generated. You still have the possibility to send the message or not.

Image 6a. Registration request window

After the Country selection, the ProCurve Configurator main window appears (see Image 8).
At this moment, the application compares the price list’s and the system’s dates: if the price list
doesn’t refer to the same month reported in the system’s date, it will appear a warning message
inviting to use the update function.

Image 7. Warning message about price list’s update

At this point it’s advisable to use the Update feature to be sure to have the last version
of the tool and the database.

Creating An Offer Step By Step
Offers are based on product configurations. A product configuration consists of a base product
configured with modules and accessories. For a project, all product configurations must be
created first before defining the offer. A product configuration can be used in different projects.

1. Create a Configuration
To create a new configuration, click on ‘Create Configuration’ in the main window: This will open
the Create Configuration window reported below.

Image 9. Create / Edit Configuration window

Step 1: Set the Configuration’s name (the Save button will be not enabled until a
name has been set).

Step 2: Choose the Product Family.

Step 3: Choose the Base Product.

The image in the center of the screen reports the selected product: it can
have green and / or yellow rectangles where the user can respectively insert
modules and / or transceivers.
Beneath the image, in the yellow frame, there is the description of the
selected product and its current configuration.
Step 4: Insert additional elements.
In the three sections on the right of the image are reported all the elements
that can be added to the selected product.
These elements can be:

o Modules;
o Transceivers - Antennas;
o Redundant Power Supply – Software – Accessories – Care
Pack.
The listed elements in each of these groups depend on the selected product:
some products don’t have any additional module or transceiver, others may
have only transceivers and others have both of them.

Step 5: save the configuration clicking on the Save Config button.

Step 6: repeat the operation for all the product configurations needed for the
project.
Note: you can use the “Copy configuration” function to create a similar configuration to an existing one.

Modules
To add a module to the product you can double click on it (it will be placed in the first free slot),
or use drag&drop to place it where you prefer (the possible positions are marked with red color
when you drag the module on them).

Image 10. Drag&Drop a module

To remove a module from the product double-clicks on its image.
When you move the mouse cursor over a module’s image, its description appears in the yellow
frame below the product’s image.
When you select an additional module from the list (by simple left-click), in the below group it
appears the complete list of all possible transceivers that can be installed on that module.

Transceivers - Antennas
If the transceiver directly fits in the base product, you can add it simply with a double-clicks (it
will be placed in the first free slot), or with drag&drop to place it where you prefer (the possible
positions are marked with red color when you drag the transceiver on them).
To add a transceiver in a modular product you must first select the module from the list and then
drag&drop the transceiver onto the module. It’s also possible to add a transceiver with a double-
clicks (it will be placed in the first free slot of the first module equal to the selected ones).
To remove a transceiver from the product double-clicks on its image.
When you move the mouse cursor over a transceiver’s image, its description appears in the
yellow frame below the product’s image.
Redundant Power Supply – Software – Accessories – Care Pack
To add an RPS, SW, Acc. or CP to the configuration double-clicks on the desired element: and
the corresponding icon will appear over the product’s image.
To remove an RPS, SW, Acc. or CP from the product double-clicks on its image.
When you move the mouse cursor over an RPS, SW, Acc. or CP image, its description appears in
the yellow frame below the product’s image.

Note: The ProCurve Configurator checks product’s limitations.

For example:
- Some modules have a maximum number of installations on the same product:
when you try to add one more of them, a message will show up.

- Certain configurations require a redundant power supply: in such a case, the RPS
will be automatically added to the product’s configuration.
- Certain configurations have mandatory products (they are marked in green
color): if you try to save the configuration without them a message will show up.
- Certain modules are incompatible with each other: once a module is used the
incompatible modules are marked with a denied icon and can’t be used.

Other Functions
Other functions available in the Create / Edit Configuration window:

o The toolbar below the product’s image reports at any time: the number of
total and free slots, the cost of the built product’s configuration along with
currency and price list’s month.
o In the same toolbar the Show Detail / Hide Detail function alternatively
shows and hides the panel below, reporting the detailed list of elements for
the configuration.

o The Start POE Advisor function is available on some products using the POE
feature. This function can be used to budget the amount of power needs and
be advised on the correct Power Supply to use.
o In the upper right corner there is a simple help that reminds how to add and
remove elements to the configuration.

o Beside the “Save Config” button there are three small buttons:
- Print Preview: exports in MS Excel the current configuration’s image and
the list of all the elements included to be able to print them.
- Copy Image into Clipboard: copies the current product configuration’s
image in system’s Clipboard.
- Save Image on Disk: saves the current configuration’s image in a bitmap

desired configuration, click on the field “Quantity” and insert a positive
number.
Step 4: Save the Offer clicking on the Save Offer button.

MS Excel and opens the file.
