INTRODUCTION
Powergate R is a device that allows the serial programming of the ECU installed on Ford cars
using the connector OBDII.
With the purchase of Powergate R the buyer undertakes to use the device only at the purpose
of the circulation on closed circuits. The manufacturer house is not responsible for any
improper use of the product not in accordance with the norms of the Rules of the Road.

Unlike the standard Powergate, Powergate R allows the programming of an infinite number of
ECU. In fact Powergate R is erasable and therefore it can be used on several Ford cars with
ECU EEC V and DELPHI CR.

UTILIZATION PROCEDURE

Connect the POWERGATE R to the pc

ECM2001 contains the software to manage POWERGATE R starting from the version 3.1E
on.
You enter in the POWERGATE section by clicking the relative button on the ECM2001
home page, or from the menu FILE – POWERGATE DEVICE or clicking CTRL + P.

Communication

It allows to set and verify the connection status, displaying the number of the port to which
you are connected and the data transmission velocity between POWERGATE R and the pc.

The button “Link to device” is used to activate the communication, by the

USB cable, between the pc and the Powergate R. When the connection is
established it will appear the data about the connected port and the data
transmission velocity.

In the case of you connect the Powergate for the first time or after having erasing it, it
automatically activate the only option available that is the INITIALIZATION. This option allow
the sending of the software concerning the Ecu to be programmed.

During the initialization process it’s necessary to choose the ECU’s family needed, using the
menu above. The families available for Powergate R are the n. 13 and n. 14.

In the section “VERSION” are displayed

the data contained in a POWERGATE R
already initialized.
This section, besides, allows to execute
the firmware upgrade and to select the
language, between those available, that
will be used to display the messages on
the POWERGATE.

The firmware upgrade is a procedure that will be used only if it will be necessary to replace the
management software of the POWERGATE R with a newest version. To do this you must click
on the button and choose from a menu the new version to install. Don’t execute the erasure of
POWERGATE R before a firmware upgrade.

The procedure could be dangerous and could lock the POWERGATE R, therefore our advice is
to make the firmware upgrade only if strictly necessary.

Programming

After the POWERGATE R initialization, it’s necessary:

• Connect the POWERGATE R to the OBD connector of the car

Using the button “Inspection” it will be checked the situation of the memories
inside the POWERGATE.

Reading POWERGATE >> PC

When you click on the button “Inspection” they are displayed the name of the
files in the memory of the POWERGATE R. To read the content of a memory
and save it on your hard disk, simply select the file and click on the button
“Reading”. When the process will be finished, it will appear a pop up that
allows you to save the file on the hard disk.

Writing PC >> POWERGATE R

This section allows you to select a file, that belongs to the family with which the POWERGATE R
has been initialized, so that it can be saved on the memory of the device.

• Click on the button “Browse” to look for the file on the hard disk of the pc and select it.
• Click on the check box relative to the section of the memory that you want to program
with the selected file.
• Write a description for the programmed file (max 16 characters) that will be displayed
on the POWERGATE R.
• Click on the button “Writing”.

Communication Progress

It displays the communication progress and give you the possibility to stop
the procedure with the button “Break”.

Erasing modified in POWERGATE R

From this section is possible to erase one of the three memory areas of the modified files.
Simply select the area to delete and click on the button ERASE

Step-by-step procedure to program

1) Put the parking brake and the gear in neutral.

2) Connect the POWERGATE R to the OBD connector of the car by the appropriate
cable.
3) Push the button Y on Powergate to enter in the POWERGATE R menu.
4) Turn on the car board with the ignition key and push the button Y to start.
5) It’s displayed the hardware number of the ECU: push the button Y to continue.
6) It’s displayed the software number of the ECU: push the button Y to continue.
7) Using the buttons “up arrow” and “down arrow” select the file that you want to
program inside the ECU.
8) Push the button Y when is displayed the file to be used to program the POWERGATE
R.
9) Confirm the selection pushing the button Y or cancel the process with the button N.
10) Wait for the end of the programming. DON’T STOP THE PROGRAMMING BEFORE
IT’S FINISHED.
11) When the programming is finished, turn off the car board and disconnect the
POWERGATE R.

Erasure of POWERGATE R

This particular version of Powergate can be completely erased and used on an other car
between those of the families 13 and 14.
To erase the Powergate simply connect the POWERGATE R to the USB port of the pc holding
pressed the button F2 of the POWERGATE R keyboard.
After few seconds it will be displayed the question ERASE ALL?
Push Y to erase, N to cancel the operation.

N.B.
If when you link the Powergate to the USB port will appear BIOS 4.00/3.00 you can erase it by
the software ECM2001 or PWG2004 just clicking on button POWERGATE ERASING
(Cancellazione Powergate)
