DYNAFORM 5.9.4 Training Tutorial

1. The document provides a tutorial for using the trim line estimation function in Dynaform 5.9.4. 2. It describes opening an existing model with meshed parts, checking the parts, repairing the mesh if needed, and setting up parameters for trim line estimation using the MSTEP module. 3. The tutorial then runs the MSTEP solver to calculate the trim line, and two new parts are generated - one for the estimated trim line contour and one combining the trim line with the original flange boundary.

Trim Line Estimation

Descriptions for trim line estimation function of Mstep

I. Open and Save the Database

1. Start up Dynaform 5.9.4.

2. Click FileOpen and select
\Tutorial_3_triming_line_estimation\MSTEP_Model3.df file.
3. Click FileSave As (See Figure 3).
4. Enter MSTEP_Model3_(user name)_(date).df as the file name.
5. Click Save to save the database.
6. The data model is shown in Figure 5. In the file of this case, there are meshed
models, products, flanges and formed CAD surfaces.

II. Check Part in Database

1. Click PartsTurn on to display four Parts in the database: DIE1, DIE2,

PRODUCT1 and FLANGE.
2. Toggle on Only Select On option and click on DIE1 and DIE2 respectively. As
shown in Figure 6~9, a complete drawing die face is composed of DIE1 and DIE2.
3. Click PRODUCT1 and FLANGE respectively. As shown in Figure 10~13, we can
see that the product after flanging is composed of PRODUCT1 and FLANGE.
FLANGE is the flanging part.
4. Toggle off Only Select On option and simultaneously open DIE2 and FLANGE. As
shown in Figure 14, Flange, which is counted from the die fillet of DIE2, share the
same boundary line with DIE2. This boundary line will be defined as constraint in
the subsequent operation.

III. Mesh Check and Repair

1. Toggle off Surface.

2. Select UserSetup -> Preprocess (See Figure 15).
3. Select Model Check/Repair and Click Boundary Display icon(the second icon
in the first row)(See Figure 16).
4. Toggle off Elements and Nodes.
5. Click (free rotation) to rotate the model.
6. Click (clear highlight) to make sure that each part only has one complete
boundary line (See Figure 17 and 18).
7. Click to display the model in isometric view.
8. Click Auto Plate Normal icon (the first icon in the first row) (See Figure 16).
9. Select CURSOR PICK PART to move the cursor to select an element on the
model.
10. Select Yes to make sure the mesh normal direction of each part is consistent.
11. Click Exit to dismiss the dialog box.
12. Click OK to exit Model Check/Repair dialog box.

Figure 19).
2. The New BSE Project dialog box will be displayed (See Figure 20). Click OK to
enter Tool Preparation (BSE) interface. Click Define Tool button (See Figure 21).
3. Click Undefined button in the displayed Define Sheet window (See Figure 22).
4. Select FLANGE as the corresponding part of blank then click OK to exit Select
Part window (See Figure 23).
5. Click Exit to exit the Define Tool dialog box (See Figure 24).
6. Click the BLANKMAT button to display the Material window (See Window 25).
7. Click Material Library button to display (See Figure 26 and Figure 27).
8. Select material: DQSK (See Figure 27).
9. Click OK button in Material dialog box (See Figure 28 and Figure 29).
10. The word BLANKMAT is changed to DQSK, which indicates that the material
parameter definition is completed (See Figure 30).
11. Define the sheet Thickness: 1.2 mm (See Figure 30).

VI. Analyze Calculation Result

After the MSTEP calculation is completed, DYNAFORM will automatically read in

the computed sheet blank unfold outline and add it to a new part. There are two
more parts in this case: OUTLINE is the trim line unfolding to the drawing surface
as shown in Figure 40 and Figure 41; SURFBDLN is the trim line with boundary
line of the original flanging surface as shown in Figure 42 and Figure 43.
