considered for the study are as follows:
The prominent factors that were driving the market before the outbreak of the coronavirus
pandemic consisted of improvements in the lifestyle of the people, growth in disposable income,
and rising concerns related to appearance. However, since the beginning of 2020, the market has
shown decline in the growth rate in the first quarter. The lockdown situation imposed across the
globe has significantly reduced the demand for beauty products among consumers and many
cosmetic manufacturers have closed down their production facilities owing to the shortage of
laborers.
Growing preference for herbal ingredients that acts as a natural remedy for acne skin and hair
related problems has been enhancing market growth. Established market players have been
focusing on acquiring firms, dealing in the natural beauty and personal care segment to widen the
customer base by attracting people who are increasingly passionate about healthy, herbal, and
natural products.
The growth is attributed to increasing awareness of the benefits of herbal beauty products on the
body such as skin improvement, acne reduction, removal of fine lines to slow down aging
processes. Growing demand for skincare and hair care products is expected to drive segment
growth.
9
Growing preference for chemical-free products, along with the rising popularity of
environmentally-sustainable products is driving the demand for herbal beauty products across the
world. The increased demand for chemical-free hair and skin products along with growing
awareness about cruelty-free cosmetics products is supporting the market growth. The significant
rise in the influence of social media and beauty blogs that are communicating the benefits of
herbal beauty products is likely to influence sales of herbal beauty products. Moreover, herbal
beauty products are suitable for all type of skin which is influencing the sales of herbal beauty
products such as foundation, eye shadow, and lipstick which are appropriate irrespective of skin
tone. The availability of the various types of herbal beauty products and improving distribution

have shown an increasing trend in the market. In the last decades or so, the demand for herbal
cosmetics has increased over the time period. With globalization, there have been changes in
many fields such as improvisation in products, innovation, competition, brand image etc. On the

However a projected growth rate of herbal cosmetics is predicted from Figure 1, showing an
increasing trend till 2024.
People of India and China have had knowledge about the medicinal uses of plants and herbs for
over 5000 years. China is the largest exporter of herbal cosmetics in the world whereas India
stands second in the global market share. Both the countries have a rich biodiversity which helps
in the evolution of various species of plants and herbs. Emergence of new and advanced
technologies empowers these countries as the leading exporters of herbal cosmetics. The herbs
are basically generated from wild sources and require a rationalized approach to utilize it for
sustainable development of herbal cosmetic industries.
The Indian cosmetics industry is undergoing rapid evolution and transition following
liberalization. It has matured to a great extent during the last few decades. Although the
economic recession in the world market proved to be a major setback for big players (MNCs and
limited sector companies) but, it did not affect the overall growth in the cosmetic industry. It was
estimated to be in the range of 15-20%. Indian ayurvedic products market is estimated to be Rs.
2500 crore per annum out of which Rs. 450 crore is the market of natural herbal cosmetics. The
Indian personal care market is estimated to be worth US$ 4 Billion (approx. Rs. 20,000 crore)

a market size of US$ 1.5 billion (approx Rs. 7500 crores). These are consumer products and their
quality, price, marketing and distribution strategies determine the success of this industrial sector.
In India AYUSH a separate department was established in March 1995 to promote indigenous
systems of medicine and homeopathy. This provided a platform and boosted the herbal cosmetic
industries too. The overall Indian personal care market has the potential to grow at 15-16% per
annum and thereby double to US$ 8 billion (approx 40,000 crore) by 2012.

Without Competition quality and service cannot be expected. Competition is in every field
whether it’s an online business, service provider, sales, marketing, Technical etc.
There few competitors too which are having a good hold on their local customers, they
spread a wrong image related to skincare because of the side effects of mixing of chemicals
in herbal products and wrong supplement based product and service in the minds of the
people , to create the trust it takes time and to provide best service at lower or similar cost as
compared to local shops is a tough job.
There are few online protein snacks and supplement services which are already available in
the market but have low presences in the market due to poor service quality, high pricing, no
proper guide etc. all this factor had created a negative image in the minds of the people to use
protein snacks and supplement.
