Dealer training for the use of Feature Protection System
In the configuration screen, select the parameter that will require passwords.
Manual Entry
From https://fps.cat.com click on the Get Passwords menu to begin the manual process.
In Step 1, enter the code that is displayed in the CAT ET service tool software.
Note: if you are using the hyperlink in the CAT ET service tool software to get passwords, this step will
be automatically populated and will not display.
Select the Product Type, the ECM Type, and the Reason Code from the dropdown options. Once this
information is entered, click the Next button to continue.
Enter the information exactly as it is displayed in the CAT ET service tool. Using the hyperlink in the CAT
ET service tool will populate all these screens automatically. Once the information is entered, click the
Generate Passwords button to continue.

When Save to File button is clicked, a standard Save As window will display allowing the user to save the
file where they desire. Once the location has been selected, click the Save button. The software will
inform the user that the file has been saved. Clicking OK will complete the process.
Opening the file will display the saved file. Notice that there is a hyperlink on this document to the
Feature Protection System website. Clicking on this link will open the FPS tool and populate all the
information available. Corporate Web Security login is required.
Once logged in, the password generation process will automatically begin.
The results can then be copied and pasted into an email to be sent back to the technician.

Factory Passwords will be automatically populated:
Clicking the OK in the upper right will automatically change the configuration parameter in the CAT ET
service tool.
The CAT ET service tool screen provides a QR code along with the necessary data to generate the
password. Scanning this QR code with a QR reader will automatically populate the FPS Mobile website
with the password data, similar to clicking the hyperlink as described above. This will start the password
generation process and provide the passwords that the user can then type back into the CAT ET service
tool to complete the configuration change.
To generate a Tier4 password, enter a Display Code if available to continue, or otherwise select No
Display Code.
Select the Product Type, ECM Type, and Reason Code and select Next.
Scrolling back to the top of the window note that there is a home button available to return to the main
mobile FPS page.
Enter additional information found in the CAT ET service tool as well as the corresponding checksum
values.
• Serial Number
• Type – options include Machine/Engine, ECM, or Service Tool
• Reason Code – options include all available Reason Codes
• Dealer/Customer Code – dropdown includes options for Only for, Related to, or TEPS only for
• Feature Type – options include Engine Rerate, Fuel Setting, SEA, and ‘None’
• Billing Indicator – options include all available states for billed transactions
• Date Range
Once the desired options have been input, click the Search to continue or click Clear to reset search
options.
