ETC Zurich is one of the world's leading universities in science and technology. It is
located in Zürich, Switzerland and is a public research university. The university was
founded in 1984 by the Swiss Federal Government with the objective of educating
engineers and scientists, has 16 programs that offer academic education and
conduct scientific research.
Interesting facts-campus life of a university:
University life at ETH has been focused on innovation. ETH is culturally diverse
because it welcomes students and teachers from all over the world. The university
has agreements in various parts of the world.
ETH Zurich lives and promotes the principles of sustainable development with
respect to social, environmental and financial aspects. The university strives to serve
as a "living laboratory" that develops, implements and tests solutions that preserve
natural resources and reduce environmental impacts. Its laboratories have
equipment that is renewed according to the demands of technological growth, so
that the research and practices that are developed are the best. In addition, the use
of technology is focused on each of the careers as it seeks to generate professionals
who are adapted to these new technologies.
ETH Zurich has two campuses. The main building was built between 1858 and 1864
on the outskirts of the city, but today it is located in the heart of the city center. As
the years went by ETH Zurich spread to the surrounding vineyards and subsequent
neighborhoods, as a result, the Zentrum campus consists of several buildings
throughout Zurich. The main building is located directly opposite the University
Hospital Zurich and the University of Zurich. Between 1964 and 1976 a new campus
was built on Hönggerberg on the outskirts of the city. The last major expansion
project on this new campus was completed in 2003; since then, the Hönggerberg
campus has housed the departments of architecture, civil engineering, biology,
chemistry, materials science and physics. The ETH campus has several outdoor
spaces that allow for social interaction among the university's members. Its directors
are trying to increase the number of female students, as recent studies have shown
that only 38% of the students are women. The university has a great infrastructure.
The university has a system called "ETH Link”, The ETH Link is a free bus for
students, workers and faculty that links the two campuses. During the day the bus
runs 3 times per hour and takes about 15 minutes. In 2020 a new all-electric ETH
eLink was implemented. Since 2018, an electric bike sharing system between the
two campuses is also available, with yearly subscriptions subsidised by the
university.
