Security information
Siemens provides products and solutions with Industrial Security functions that support the secure
operation of plants, systems, machines and networks.
In order to protect plants, systems, machines and networks against cyber threats, it is necessary
to implement – and continuously maintain – a holistic, state-of-the-art industrial security concept.
Siemens’ products and solutions constitute one element of such a concept.
Customers are responsible for preventing unauthorized access to their plants, systems, machines
and networks. Such systems, machines and components should only be connected to an
enterprise network or the Internet if and to the extent such a connection is necessary and only
when appropriate security measures (e.g. firewalls and/or network segmentation) are in place.
For additional information on industrial security measures that may be implemented, please visit
https://www.siemens.com/industrialsecurity.
Siemens’ products and solutions undergo continuous development to make them more secure.
Siemens strongly recommends that product updates are applied as soon as they are available
and that the latest product versions are used. Use of product versions that are no longer
supported, and failure to apply the latest updates may increase customer’s exposure to cyber
threats.
To stay informed about product updates, subscribe to the Siemens Industrial Security RSS Feed

1 Introduction
1.1 Overview
As of firmware version V2.8, the S7-1500R/H redundant system supports the
“Switched S1 device” function. This function of the CPU enables operation of
standard IO devices on the S7-1500R/H redundant system.
Standard IO devices are always assigned to both CPUs of the S7-1500R/H
redundant system. In contrast to an IO device with S2 system redundancy, a
standard IO device supports only one application relation (AR). The AR for the IO-
device is only set up once by the primary CPU.
NOTE SINAMICS G115D does not support S2 system redundancy and is connected as
switched S1 device to the R/H redundant system.
This FAQ describes the connection of a SINAMICS G115D to the S7-1500R/H
system.
SINAMICS G120 and SINAMICS 210 can be connected equally.

1.3 Restrictions
Restrictions Engineering system / Startdrive / STARTER
As Startdrive currently does not support multi assignment to several CPUs the
configuration must be divided between two projects:
• 1st project: S7-1500R/H redundant system with SINAMICS GSD file.
• 2nd project: SINAMICS with Startdrive/STARTER.
Restrictions R/H-system
For restrictions of the R/H-system please refer to the system manual:

3. Assign the IP addresses of the CPUs in the settings of the CPU respectively.
e.g., default setting:
CPU1: 192.168.0.1
CPU2: 192.168.0.2

4. Recommended: Enable and assign the system IP address for the interfaces X1 and X2.
NOTE A GSD file must be used. Startdrive currently does not support multi assignment.
SINAMICS G115D GSD file can be downloaded here:

2. Configure the SINAMICS with the desired telegram in the device view.
No Action
3. Go into the network view and right click “Not assigned” and click on “Assign to new IO controller”
5. Navigate to the properties of the interface and assign the desired IP address and PROFINET
device name. e.g.: “192.168.0.115” and “sinamics-g115d”
No Action
6. Navigate to “Advanced Options” → “Media redundancy” and set the media redundancy role to
“Client”:
7. In „Advanced Options“ → „Real time settings“ set the accepted update cycles factor to the value
TIA Portal is requesting.

NOTE As the configuration is divided between two projects make sure that the IP
address, PROFINET device name and the configured telegram match in the S7-
1500R/H TIA portal project and in the Startdrive project!

If you want to access the SINAMICS via Ethernet (Startdrive) when it is connected
to the R/H system and you are not using a switch, then you can use S7 routing via
the second interface of the R/H CPU (X2).
1. Connect your PG/PC to the second interface of the R/H CPU (X2).
2. Check the ‘S7 subnet ID’ in the S7-1500R/H system project:

3. Insert a ‘Dummy’-CPU with at least two interfaces (e.g. a S7-1515-2 PN) in the
Startdrive project, connect the SINAMICS with the CPU and set the ‘S7 subnet
ID’ to the same value. Additionally, add a subnet on the second interface (X2).
4. Check that the IP addresses of both, the R/H CPU and the ‘Dummy’-CPU,
match: e.g.
X1: 192.168.0.1
X2: 192.168.1.1
5. When choosing the interface to go online, choose the added second subnet of
the ‘Dummy’-CPU (PN/IE_2) and the CPU will automatically be set as ‘1st
gateway’.

6. Go online.
3 SINAMICS Parameterization
3.1 Set point behavior
If the primary CPU fails or is switched to STOP, the S7-1500R/H redundant system
disconnects the AR between the primary CPU and the standard IO device.
The redundant system has no access to the inputs and no control over the outputs
of the SINAMICS G115D until the new primary CPU has set up an AR to the
SINAMICS.
The status of the outputs of the SINAMICS in the meantime depend on the
configured message type of F08501: PROFINET: Setpoint timeout.
With changing the message type to an alarm, the last received set point freezes
until the new AR is set up.
Table 3-1 Parameterization of message type
Parameter Value
p2118[0] 8501
p2119[0] [2] Alarm (A)
© Siemens AG 2021 All rights reserved
Danger to life
When changing the message type to an alarm the axis keeps moving even with a
setpoint timeout. This can cause serious injury or death to persons in the danger
WARNING zone.
Take suitable measures, e.g., emergency stop or emergency off.
With the "Switched S1 device" function, the new primary CPU establishes the AR
to the SINAMICS again. “OB 86” is called for each return of an IO device. The
outputs of the SINAMICS are then controllable again.
For more information about “OB86” see S7-1500R/H manual:
