Guide Questions (refer to the previous photos)

1. What could have been done by the people and government to prevent this from
happening?
- Awareness, education, preparedness, and prediction and warning systems can decrease the
disruptive impacts of a natural catastrophe on communities. Mitigation measures such as the
adoption of zoning, land-use practices, and building codes are needed, however, to prevent or
reduce actual damage from hazards. We cannot prevent natural earthquakes from occurring,
but we can significantly mitigate their effects by identifying hazards, building safer structures,
and providing education on earthquake safety. By preparing for natural earthquakes, we can
also lower the risk from human-produced earthquakes.  Citizen engagement and cooperation
have a vital role when real disasters occur. Generally, the government preserves residents' lives
and property from the threat of catastrophes and offers help to encourage individuals,
businesses, and communities to return to a normal condition when a disaster happens.

2. What if this would happen to Davao, are you prepared? What would you do?
- We cannot predict whether a calamity will strike our community or location, but as residents
of Davao City, we must cooperate, especially with our local officers, in every program that they
prepare for us to be aware of what we must do to become ready if a possible calamity strikes
our community, and we must be mindful at all times that we must prepare ourselves to face
the possible outcome if there is a possibility. Awareness, education, preparedness, and
prediction and warning systems can all help to lessen the devastation caused by a natural
disaster.

3. As “Men and Women for Others”, how can you be of service in a time of crisis such as this?
-As a youthful member of our community, I can help in times of distress by Volunteering with
local disaster relief organizations. Prior to the next disaster event, volunteer with a renowned
group that specializes in disaster response and recovery. Volunteer with a non-profit
organization to assist them in their mission. From simple gifts of food and water to medical and
psychological treatment, and more, we can assist in rebuilding and reestablishing normalcy in
the aftermath of hardship. Donating to a disaster relief group is typically the most efficient
approach to assist victims of a natural catastrophe or emergency.
