Lab 5: Proximity Switch Stephanie Zepeda Sanchez 1069742 02 08/16/2021

This lab report describes an experiment with proximity switches. The document includes: 1) Pre-lab questions about proximity switch types 2) Diagrams of circuits used, including a 3/2 way solenoid DCV, push buttons and switches controlling single-acting cylinders. 3) A sequence of operation explaining the 6 steps of the circuit to advance and return the two cylinders based on the push button and proximity switch signals.

Part 3: Sequence of operation

Initial Position

In the initial position, the piston rod of cylinder 1A and 2A assumes the retraced position. The solenoid
operated 3/2-way valve 1SOL and 2SOL supplies air to the piston’s rods end and exhausts out the cap
end of the cylinder.

Step 1:

Press PB1. PB1 closes, and CR1 energizes, and seals itself on with a CR1 contact. With CR1 energized, a
contact energizes 1SOL, advancing cylinder 1A Once the PB1 circuit is latched, you can let go of PB1.

Step2:

Cylinder 1A advances and makes PX1. Since 1A is advanced, LS1 is no longer actuated, and the N.C.
contact passes energy CR2 is energized to seal this circuit in. In addition, a CR2 contact energizes 2SOL,
advancing cylinder 2A.

Step3:

Cylinder 2A advances and makes PX2.The paths that will de-energize immediately after CR3 is energized.

Step4:

CR3 has been energized. CR1 circuit is now off, resulting in 1SOL turning off. Immediately after 1SOL
shuts off, cylinder 1A will return.

Step5:

CR2 has been de-energized because 1A has moved off of PX1, opening the CR2 circuit. 2SOL turns off.
Notice also that LS1 is OPEN again, because cylinder 1A has returned. Immediately after 2SOL shuts off,
cylinder 2A will return.

Step6:

The End, Back to original state.
