Brief History Reggaeton is a music genre that combines traditional hispanic music with other Caribbean music genres (such as reggae, dancehall and soca).
Reggaeton is from Panama but it became popular through Puerto Rican artists. It was banned in the begining when it first became popular. For example in Puerto Rico, in 1995, reggaeton was banned for its explicit lyrics and negative influence on the youth.
Musical Theory Aspects
Reggae is not reggaeton unlike what many believe. It has certain rhythmic aspects of reggae/dancehall with some cuban flair. However, it is discusses the same topics addressed in these genres.
The main part of the beat is called a tresillo. This rhythm is from Cuba where the first half of the Cuban clave is continually repeated. This is common in other latin american genres such as salsa. (Where it is counted 1,2,3 ... 5,6,7) Normally a snare drum would carry this rhythm.
Then a kick drum would be used to play 4 beat rhythm (1,2,3,4). When these are layered together, it forms the basic reggaeton rhythm known a dem bow. (Which comes from Jamaican dancehall).

Conclusion This genre of music despite not being accepted in the begining, is now very popular in the spanish- speaking world. Artists from different countries, now use the Dembow and a piece of their country's heritage to create new songs (sample Malamente - Rosalia).
As of recent times, reggaeton is internationally recognized. Songs such as Despacito and Mi Gente are commonly played on the radio. The dembow beat is also used in other genres of music to create songs.

El reggaetón es del Panamá, pero es hizo popular porque de los artistas puertorriqueños. En el principio, el reggaetón fue prohibido antes fue popular. En la Puerto Rico en mil novecientos noventa y cinco, el reggaetón fue prohibido porque las letras son explicitas y malas.
Reggae no es reguetón. El reguetón tiene algunos partes del reggae con algunos partes de la música de Cuba y el Caribe. Pero, las letras del reguetón son similares del reggae. En el ritmo, hay un parte se llama tresillo. Tresillo es el primero parte de son clave. Son clave usa en la música de Cuba. Esta es uno, dos, tres …, cinco, seis, siete. Usted puede oír el tresillo en la salsa y el mambo. Un tambor usaría para el tresillo.
Entonces, un bombo usaría tocar un ritmo de cuatro tiempos. Es uno, dos, tres, cuatro. Cuando el tresillo y el ritmo de cuatro tiempos están juntos, hace un dembow. Dembow es el principal ritmo del reguetón.
