Q. a) Thirteen cards are drawn from a pack of cards simultaneously. If the values of (5
1 aces are 1, face cards 10 and others according to denomination, find the )
expectation of the total score in all the 13 cards.

b An insurance company issues life insurance policies in three separate (5

) categories: standard, preferred, and ultra - preferred. Of the company’s )
policyholders, 50% are standard, 40% are preferred. And 10% are ultra -
preferred. Each standard policyholder has probability 0.010 of dying in the
next year, each preferred policyholder has probability 0.0005 of dying in the
next year, and each ultra – preferred policyholder has probability 0.0001 of
dying in the next year.

A policyholder dies in the next year. What is the probability that the deceased
policyholder was ultra – preferred?

Q. a) The number of arrivals at the Regional Computer Centre at express service (4

2 counter between 12 noon and 3 p.m. has a Poisson distribution with mean of )
1.2 per minute Determine : (i)The probability of no arrivals during a given 1-
minute interval.

(ii) The probability of no arrivals during a 2 –minute interval.

(iii) The probability of no arrivals during a given 5-minute

interval.
b It is known that 24% of the customers in a bank holding a current account also (4
) have another type of account with the bank. Calculate an approximate value )
for the probability that fewer than 50 customers in a random sample of 250
customers with a current account also has another type of account. [F(1.41) =
0.9207, F(1.48) = 0.9306]

c) Two dice are thrown n times. Let X denotes the number of throws in which (2
the number on the first die exceeds the number on the second die. What is the )
Distribution of X?

Q. a) 𝑝 is the probability that a given die shows even number. To test 𝐻0 : 𝑝 = 1 (5

2
3 1 )
against 𝐻1 : 𝑝 = 3 , following procedure is adopted. Toss the die twice and
accept 𝐻0 if both times it shows even number. Find the probabilities of type I
and type II errors.

b A sample of 600 Persons selected randomly from a large city gives the result (5
) that males are 53 percent. Is there a reason to doubt the hypothesis that males )
and females are in equal numbers in the city ? [F(1.96) = 0.975, F(1.645)=
0.95)

Q. a) Consider a bag containing four tickets numbered 2, 4, 6 and 8. Suppose we (4

4 draw two tickets one after another without replacement from it. Is the sample )
mean an unbiased estimator of population mean? Justify your answer.

b Five unbiased dice were thrown 96 times and the number of times 4,5 or 6 was (6
) obtained is given below: )
