9. Initial Settings of Controller (Pronterface)
9-1 Startup of the Controller Software
(1) Turn on MF-2200D.
Then, select the COM number that is confirmed in the previous step from the Port
selection pull-down menu. (See the red circle above.)
If the intended COM port is not displayed, restart the controller software.
(3) Setting of communication speed (if it is not set yet) - set 250000 as communication speed.
(4) Once you set and confirm the port and the communication speed, click the "Connect" button.
If the whole screen appears in grey after clicking the “Connect” button, it indicates the COM
port is not connected. Change the COM port number or check the speed, and click the
"Connect" button again.
25
Once connection is established, the screen changes from the grey color to the online
state with the messages concerning the connection on the right pane
Return to Origin
(5) Once the connection is established, each head moves in response to the clicking circular
parts of [+X], [-X], [+Y] and [-Y] symbols (greater moving distance for clicking closer point
to the circumference). If the move stops halfway, select "Return to Origin" at the
bottom left of the circle. The position is reset to the initial state. In the initial state, the right
head is placed at the right end, while the left head is at the left end.
The "Extruder No." button is used to choose which of the two heads to be moved. The
left head is moved when [0] is chosen, while the right one is moved when [1] is chosen.
When you choose one from the two heads, the other one is moved to the corresponding
end and goes into the standby state.
(6) The table is moved up and down by clicking [+Z] and [-Z] buttons. When [+Z] is clicked,
the distance between the table and the head increases (i.e., the table moves down).
In this instance, try to position the table at about 5 cm away from the head.
(7) As described below, adjustments may be required. Although the product has been
already adjusted properly before shipping, the height may have shifted due to impacts or
other reasons during the transportation. , If the tip of either head bumps against the table
when the "Return to Origin" operation is performed, or modeling works go wrong, try the
steps "9-2" and "9-3" below.
26
9-2. Adjusting Z-Axis Height (Note: It has been done properly before shipping)
(1) Prepare the nozzle height adjustment jig included in the package for this task. Keep
the table and the nozzle at ambient temperature (40°C and below).
Clear the offset of the height of the right head to the left head. While the printer is idle,
type "M502" in the command box of the controller software and click "Send Code" (in
order to reset the unit configurations to defaults). Similarly, type "M500" and click "Send
Code" (in order to save the setting).
(2) Unlock the white wiring clamp that holds two cables of both heads and take the cables
out from the inside of the lock. (Do not pull the printing heads with the cables.)
(1) Pull up the click
Cable
(3) Separate both heads from the table and click the "Z-axis Return to Origin”
button. Perform the adjustment for the left head first.
27
(4) Using the controller software (Pronterface), move the Z-axis upward by 20 mm.
(This operation positions the table at 20 mm away from the head.)
20mm
(5) Loosen the screws (shown in red in the right figure) on the
metal plate with the 2-mm hex wrench included in the
package. Loosen the screws to the extent that a slight play
is given. Excessive loosening may cause too much play.
(6) Type "G1 Z5.3" in the command box and click "Send Code".
(This operation sends the code that moves the Z-axis to
the height of 5.3 mm.)
Click the
button
5.3mm
28
(8) Attach the head height adjustment jig to the tip of the head, hold it by hand and
manually move the head to near the center of the table: (X, Y) = (150, 150).
To near the center of the table
Head
Attach
Table
Adjustment jig
(9) Stand the printing head at the right angle to the table. If it is difficult to figure out the right
angle, use the edge of the modelling fan as a reference first.
(10) In order for the head to stand properly at the right angle, move
the Z-axis upward by 2 mm in the controller software once.
(This operation separates the head from the table.)
(11) Again, type "G1 Z5.3" in the command box in the controller software to send the code
(that moves the Z-axis to the height of 5.3 mm). The head should stand vertically, mating
with the conical part of the jig.
29
(12) Paying due attention to the jig and the head aligned
properly, and not applying any pressure to the head and
the table, tighten the screws on the Z-axis adjustment
plate carefully and firmly. Tighten the two screws
alternately and little by little. (Be aware that the
pressure to the head and/or the table may bend the
components.)
(13) Move the head to the outside of the table manually and
detach the jig.
(14) Move the head to near the center of the table— (X, Y) = (150, 150)— and click the "Z-axis
Return to Origin ” button.
(15) Now, insert 2 sheets of copy paper or one business card into the gap between the tip of
the head and the table and check whether the gap is properly formed. If the surface of the
paper or the card is slightly touched, it indicates that the setting is OK. (Or, use a
clearance gage to check that the gap ranges from 0.3 to 0.4 mm.)
(16) If the gap is not proper after the adjustment of the left head, perform the following steps:
- Check whether the head is inclined. If the head is inclined, redo the steps of from (4)
to (15) above.
- Even if the head is not inclined, you still need to do the steps (4) to (15) again with the
following height of the Z-axis (use the same value for the adjustment of the right head
as well if the height is changed):
The gap is too small --> Use a value less than 5.3. (The head will be closer to the table)
The gap is too large --> Use a value more than 5.3. (The head will be farther from the
table.)
(17) Once the adjustment for the left head is finished, repeat the steps of from (4) to (15) for
the right head.
If the gap is not proper for the right head, redo the steps of from (4) to (15).
Cable
(18) Click the "Z-axis Return to Origin” button. Check both heads are
positioned at the same height using copy paper and so on. Put back
the cables, which have been removed from the cramp, to the wiring
clamp and lock them.
(19) For the fine adjustment of the X, Y, and Z axes, perform the test
modeling as shown the following pages, using "Settings" --> "Head
Adjust" in the controller software.
- The adjustment of the Z-axis is required for both right and left sides.
Use the Change button to change the nozzle.
Use the Change button to change the nozzle.
CAUTION - When different types of filaments are used, it is recommended to change a
heater head because the melting points are different. We cannot warrant the
proper performance if different filaments are used on a single head.
30
9-3. Adjusting X/Y/Z Offsets (Note: It has been done properly before shipping)
(1) Offset adjustments are performed through the practice of printing. First, load two
filaments referring to the description in "10-1. Loading Filaments."
(2) Print out the pattern named "XY Adjustment Pattern" for the adjustment.
Click the "Open" button and load "XY Adjustment Pattern 3_φ1.75_φ1.75.gcode" in the
Test Data folder.
Then, set the temperatures of both the nozzle and the table as shown in
the following table. Note that, when the one is for ABS and the other is
for PLA, the table's temperature should be 95°C.
ABS(°C) PLA(°C)
Nozzle 235 195
Table 95 55
Use a thermometer to check the temperature.
When the temperatures reach the selected points, click the "Print" button.
(3) In the printed patterns, locate the points where the two colors patterns coincide for the X
and Y axis. In the pattern set that has eleven elements arranged in a side-by-side
fashion, the center element is given a value of “zero” and the elements right next to the
center have values of 0.1 mm and -0.1mm. Values are continuously changed by 0.1 mm
as moving toward the both ends. If all elements are misaligned, choose a value of +0.5
mm or -0.5 mm, whichever shows smaller misalignment. For the Z-axis offset, the
adjustment is not required basically because the "Z-axis Height Adjust" has been
performed; however, in case the heights for two colors are different, "Right Head
correction value relative to Left Head" can be set.
31
-0.5 -0.1 +0.1 +0.5
32
(4) In the controller software (Pronterface), open "Head Adjust" from "Settings", select the
values that match and click OK. You can configure "Right Head Correction value relative
to Left Head" here as well.
(5) Repeat the printing and adjustment until no misalignment is found for both X and Y axes.
(6) Once the adjustment is finished, always click the "Save Settings" button to save the
changes into the unit.
(7) Now, you have finished the adjustment of the X, Y, and Z offsets.
* In case the distance of misalignment exceeds 0.5, the corrections are accumulated, so select
the adjustment values several times. For example, if the correction of +1.0 mm is required,
do the adjustment of +0.5 mm twice.
33
10. Preparing Filaments
10-1 Loading Filaments
(1) Prepare a genuine filament, either the one included in the package or the one separately
purchased. Insert a filament stopper (first one), a filament, and another filament stopper
(second one) in this order into the filament shaft and then turn each knob of the stoppers to
fix them. At this time, push the first filament stopper against the plate of the spool holder plate
while fixing it. In addition, turn the front tip of the filament downward, pointed toward the inside
of the unit.

34
- Printing performance is warranted only with the use of genuine
filaments.
- The spool holder must be used in the open state.
- Keep some space between a filament reel and the filament stopper
for the reel to rotate smoothly. If the filament reel does not rotate
smoothly enough, the filament may not be fed in the process of printing.
- Fix the filament stoppers firmly by the knobs after inserting into the
filament shaft. If play remains, the stoppers may drop off during
CAU- operations.
- Before inserting the filament, unwind and straighten some portion of
TION the filament. In addition, it is recommended to cut its front tip at an angle
to insert the filament into the nozzle easily.
- When you use different filaments, it is recommended to change a
heater head because they have different melting points. We cannot
warrant if you use the different filaments on different extruder outputs.
- PLA becomes breakable gradually when it absorbs moisture. After
use, detach the reel from the main unit and keep it in a sealed package.
Completely use the reel within a month. In particular, be careful during
humid seasons.
(2) Use the change button to choose the nozzle onto which you want to load the filament. The
Extruder No. "0" is for the left nozzle and "1" for the right one.
(3) Guide the tip of the filament through a tube of the spool holder. When using the 3.0 mm
filament, guide it in the same manner because the inside diameter of the tube is 3.0 mm.
35
(4) Loosen a pressure arm handle of the extruder that the filament is loaded to open the arm
and then insert the tip of the filament into the nozzle through the guide tube. Insert the
filament until its tip goes into the nozzle for about 2 cm from the nozzle entrance and
touches the end. To make the work easier, use appropriate tools such as needle-nose
pliers.
<Left extruder>
Pressure arm
Guided tube

36
(5) Turn the pressure arm handle until the gap between the handle and the arm becomes
about 6 mm, and then hold the filament between the pressure roller and the feed gear
tightly.
- Hold the filament between the pressure roller and the feed gear
tightly. If the grip is weak, the filament may not be fed in the
CAUTION
process of printing.
(4) Close the door, and start the controller software (Pronterface) to establish a connection
("Connect").
(5) Input a value of temperature in the "Nozzle" field and click the "Setting" button.
For PLA, input 195°C as the temperature, and for ABS, input 235°C (The temperature
can be set using the up and down arrow icons).
(6) Please wait for a while until the nozzle temperature reaches the value you have
specified.
(7) When the nozzle temperature reaches the specified value, input 20 in the left box and
300 in the right box under the "Filament Feed" button as shown below.
37
(8) Click the "Filament Feed" button and confirm that the resin (melted filament) is being
extruded from the nozzle tip.
Click the "Filament Feed" button several times until the resin is extruded from the
nozzle. Take the necessary interval for each repeating click for the feed unit to stop its
motion.
(9) Once the extrusion of the resin from the nozzle is confirmed, remove the extruded resin
with tweezers or other tool.
(10) If necessary, repeat the steps from (5) to install the filament onto the other nozzle.
- If the door is opened while the nozzle is heating up, the heating will
be stopped for safety.
CAUTION - During the initial use of the unit, the resin with a different color than
that is set may be extruded, due to the residue of the filament used
for modeling test at the factory. In that case, please use the
"Filament Feed" button until the right color filament is fed.
- Use tweezers or pincers for removing the resin from the unit.
WARNING - Using bare hands may cause burn injury because the nozzle and
the resin immediately after the extrusion operation are still very
hot.
38
10-2 Unloading Filament
Follow the steps below to unload the filament for the change of a filament, for example.
(1) Warm up the nozzle used for the filament that you want to unload. Use the controller software
(Pronterface) to choose the nozzle used for the filament that you want to unload. The
Extruder No. "0" is for the left nozzle and "1" for the right one.
(2) Input a temperature value in the "Nozzle" field and click the "Settings" button. For PLA,
input 195°C as the temperature, and for ABS, input 235°C.
(3) In the controller software (Pronterface), click the "Pull Out" button. The tip is pulled out of the
nozzle.

* The temperature set for the left nozzle is used as the table
temperature. Assuming the case that the left nozzle is loaded
with PLA and the right is with ABS, selecting "1.75PLA
(support)" for the left nozzle gives the table temperature of 55°C,
which is not high enough for ABS to attach properly. For this
reason, the temperature should be set at 95°C. Before this
temperature setting, it is recommended to create a setting
of the "1.75PLA (support)" with the table temperature of
95°C in the "Filament Setting" window and save with a
different name (for example, "1.75PLA (support95)"), and to
specify this name in the "Model Layout" window.

(8) The G-Code file is generated, and the required amount of the filament is shown.
The creation of the G-Code data is now completed. You can close the Slic3r.
Select "File" -->"Exit" in the Slic3r.
Next, use the G-Code file, which you have created, to print it. Go to the "11-2. Printing G-
Code File" section.
51
(2) Start the controller software (Pronterface). Click "Connect" to establish a connection to the
printer.
(3) Click "Open" to load the G-Code file which you have generated. When a window opens to
load a G-Code file, specify the G-Code file which you have generated and click "Open."
52
When the G-Code file has been loaded completely, a path
route for the printing is shown in the central grid. The following Clean with alcohol.
information is also shown in the right frame:
- Location where the G-Code is stored and its filename
- Total number of lines in the G-Code
- Width, depth, and height of the printing
- Total number of layers and estimated time required for
the printing
(8) Before printing, open the door and confirm nothing is on the heat table. In addition, make sure
to clean the top of the table (It is recommended to use alcohol to clean). If the table is stained
with oil from fingers or others, the model may slip off the table. When you complete checking,
make sure to close the door.
53
"The printing started at **:**:**." (Each ** represents the corresponding hour, minute, and
second.)
- Disable the power-saving mode on your PC to prevent the PC
entering the sleep mode after a certain period of time, which
cause printing to halt.
- If the door is open during printing, the unit will stop. When the
door is closed, the operation resumes from the point when the
unit stopped. Note that, in this case, the operation resumes from
the interrupted point by the door open after extruders and heat
table are reheated, thus sometimes this resuming operation may
CAU- reduce quality of the model and/or may lead to a failure of modeling.
- When you need to stop the printing, use the "Suspend" button in
the controller software. Open the door after confirming that the
TION operation is stopped. In addition, if the operation is suspended for
10 minutes, the heating of the extruders and the table is stopped
for safety reasons.
- If the filament is used up during the printing, the operation is
stopped. In this case, replace the filament with new one and then
close the door. When the left head is being used, click "XY Return
to Origin (T0),” and when the right head is being used, click "XY
Return to Origin (T1)." Once the extruders and the heat table are
reheated, click "Resume" to resume the printing.
(5) When the printing is finished, the following message is shown in the lower right frame:
"At **:**:**, the printing was finished. It took **:**:**." Then, the operation of the extruders
stops, and the heat table moves forward and stops.
(6) Let the printed model cool down and cure. Because the printed model immediately after the
printing operation is hot, soft, and adheres to the table, you need to take about 10–15 minutes
to cool the model naturally. Although the model adheres to the table, it will be detached easily
once the table is cooled down. If it is difficult to detach a model from the table, you may use
a tool such as a plastic hammer to give an impact on the side of the model to detach it. For
a larger model, use a tool such as a spatula to detach the model starting from the edge little
by little.
- Because the printed model immediately after printing is hot, it is
CAU- soft. You need to wait for a while to let it cool naturally before you
pull it out. If you force to pull out the model that is still hot, the
TION model may deform or you may be get burned.

11-3. Details on the Controlling Software “Pronterface”
(1) Open button to load the G-Code file. The G-Code file is with the ”.gcode” extension. When
you open the file, the image of the shape to be formed is shown in the preview screen.
(2) The Print/Reprint button is used to print out the G-Code file, which you have loaded, from
the beginning.
(3) The Suspend/Resume button is used to suspend or resume the printing operation. If you
move the printing heads up or down or feed the filament while the printing operation is
suspended, the shape forming may be not in the right position after resuming the operation.
(4) The Off button is used to turn off a motor, a heater, and a fan.
*If you do not use the unit for a long time, make sure to unplug it.
(5) XYZ motor operation panel
(Movement of the components are described as follows based on the view from front
face of the unit: the X direction operation is to move the printing heads to right/left, the Y
direction operation is to move the heat table forward/backward, and the Z direction
operation is to move the printing heads up/down)
When you operate the unit manually, make sure to perform the return to origin operation
before operating it. When you click the button at the bottom left of the circle, each of
X, Y, and Z axes returns to its origin. To move the printing head, click anywhere in the
circle to cause X–Y two-dimensional movement. The move is smaller by clicking near the
center while it is larger by clicking near the circumference. The bar on the right side (Z
axis) is used to move the print extruders up and down. Similar to X and Y axes, clicking a
place far from the center gives a larger movement.
* While the shape is being formed, you cannot control the operation from the operation
panel because commands are sent automatically from the G-Code file that is opened.
(6) The Change button is used to select the extruder (nozzle) that you want to operate.
Pressing the button toggles the setting between [0] and [1]. [0] corresponds to the left
extruder and [1] corresponds to the right extruder.
(7) The temperature control panel for nozzle and heat table controls temperatures of the
nozzles and the heat tables. Once you input or select a temperature and click the "Set"
55
button, the temperature is set to the value which you have input/selected. When you click
the "Off" button, the heater is turned off.
(8) The temperature indicator for nozzle and heat table shows the current and target
temperatures for the nozzles and the heat table in a line chart. To plot the line chart in the
temperature indication panel, check the "Monitor" box.
(9) Filament Feed and Return panel controls the feed and retraction of the filament. It is mainly
used for the exchange of the filament. When you click the "Filament Feed" or "Filament
Return" button, the filament is fed or retracted at the speed and the length specified in the
box below.
(10) The preview screen displays the track of the G-Code, which has been loaded. You can
rotate the view by dragging it, zoom in/zoom out the view by turning around the mouth
wheel, and change the viewpoint by dragging it with the right button.
(11) SD card button
It transfers and saves data to a microSD on the printer or it displays the data stored in the
microSD and prints it out. It will keep working even when the USB cable is disconnected
after the printing operation has started (but when you exit the controller software while the
cable is connected, the operation will be stopped).
(12) The custom buttons panel allows users to define various functions with the buttons on this
panel. In total, 15 buttons are prepared as a default. Here are commonly used buttons:
"Pull Out" - The filament that is currently used will be pulled out from the nozzle.
"Preparation for Nozzle Height Adjust" - It is used for the height adjustment of the Z-axis. It
moves the head to near the center and then stops the motor.
"Nozzle Height Adjust" - Perform the correction after the height adjustment by the handle
and save the setting.
56
12. Printing with PVA
If you will not use the unit for a while after the modeling work, please unload the PVA reel and
store it. The PVA filament is provided with an aluminum storage bag with a zipper to protect it
from moisture.
57
12-3. Removing PVA Supporting Material
Remove the PVA supporting material by putting the model in water.
(1) Before you put it in water, remove the supporting material
as much as you can. The material is so soft that you can
remove it easily by pulling it with needle-nose pliers if the
model is simple. If the supporting material has entered
deeply inside the model, use nippers to cut it. Reducing the
amount of the PVA in advance will help reduce water
contamination and improve the efficiency of your work.
(2) Dip a model with the PVA in water for about 1 hour to soften
its surface. If you have enough time, you may leave it in the
water overnight or for about 48 hours.
(3) Remove the softened part. If the model has a movable part,
moving that part may make the removing work easier on the
PVA that has entered deep into a gap.
(4) Repeat the steps (2) and (3) above until you remove the
PVA completely. As you remove more supporting material
on the surface, the water permeates deeper into the model.
If a gap is so narrow that water cannot enter deeply into the
model, you may need to dip it in water for a longer time.
(5) Wash the model with running water and dry it. The PVA
dissolved in the water can be drained as it is.
- Depending on a shape, using the polyimide tape alone may not provide enough
adhesion. In such a case, use of a “masking tape” may improve the adhesion. The
following masking tape can be used for this work:
3M Masking Tape 343
You can use this masking tape (http://www.3mwebcatalog.jp/catalog/g/g3436/ ) by
pasting it on the polyimide tape to form a shape, and you need to adjust the Z-axis
height for this work.
58
13. Printing from SD Card
MF-2200D can use and print a G-Code file stored in an SD card by inserting the SD card into
the unit. Although the printing operation has to be started through your PC, you can
disconnect the USB cable and use it for other tasks once the printing has started.
(1) Copy your G-Code file that is stored in your PC to the SD card. Note that you must use
single-byte characters for a file name and not double-byte characters.
(2) Before you start the controller software, make sure to insert the SD card that stores the
G-Code into the unit.
(3) Start the controller software (Pronterface), connect it by clicking "Connect" and select
"SD Card" --> "Print from SD Card" from the menu.
59
14. Changing Polyimide Tape
To ensure the adhesion between a modeling object and the table, stick a polyimide tape on
the heat table. As the number of printing operations on the same polyimide tape increases,
the adhesion of the tape decreases. In addition, when you observe that the tape is broken or
unstuck, it is recommended to change it with a new one.
Use the polyimide tape that we recommend.
(1) Disconnect the unit from your PC, (only when the unit is running) and turn off it. Wait for
about 20 minutes until the head and the heat table cool down to room temperature.
- Before this operation, make sure to stop and turn off the unit.
WARNING - Do not operate the unit while your hand is inside it. It is very dangerous.
(3) Softly wipe the surface of the heat table with alcohol.
(4) Paste a new polyimide tape onto the heat table. Paste the tape uniformly on the surface
of the table.
Information - If an air bubble is formed between the tape and the table, remove the
tape and paste it again or insert a needle into the bubble to release
air.bottom of a modeling object will be well finished when a gap

60
15. Changing Heater Head
There are two diameter sizes of the filament: 1.75 mm and 3.00 mm. When switching
between them, the heater head also needs to be changed depending on the diameter size. In
addition, when changing the type of the filament, it is recommended to change the heater
head as well because each filament has a different melting point.

(6) Open the plate that holds in the head and remove
the head from the pit. At this point, make sure that
this fan is not stained with resin or other substances.
Failure of this fan causes the head to be continually
heated and the blowout of a fuse.
62
(2) Keep both heads off the table and click the "Z-axis Return to Origin” button. Perform the
adjustment for the left head first.
(3) In the controller software (Pronterface), move the Z-axis upward by 20 mm. (This operation
positions the table at 20 mm away from the head.)

(8) Stand the printing head at the right angle to the table. If it is difficult to figure out the right
angle, use the edge of the modeling fan as a reference first.
Click this
twice
(9) In order for the head to stand properly at the right angle, move the Z-axis upward by 2
mm in the controller software once.
(This operation separates the head from the table.)
(10) Again, type "G1 Z5.3" in the command box in the controller software to send the code
(that moves the Z-axis to the height of 5.3 mm). The head should stand vertically, mating
with the conical part of the jig.
(11) Paying due attention to the jig, the head being aligned
properly, and not applying any pressure to the head and
the table, tighten the screws on the Z-axis adjustment
plate carefully and firmly. Tighten the two screws
alternately and little by little. (Be aware that the
pressure to the head and/or the table may bend the
components.)
(12) Move the head to the outside of the table manually and
detach the jig.
(13) Move the head to near the center of the table—(X, Y) = (150, 150)— and click the "Z-
axis Return to Origin ” button.
(14) Now, insert 2 sheets of copy paper or one business card into the gap between the tip of
the head and the table and check whether the gap is properly formed. If the surface of
the paper or the card is slightly touched, it indicates that the setting is OK. (Or, use a
clearance gage to check that the gap ranges from 0.3 to 0.4 mm.)
(15) If the gap is not proper after the adjustment of the left head, perform the following
steps.
- Check whether the head is inclined. If the head is inclined, redo the steps of from (4)
to (15) above
65
- Even if the head is not inclined, you still need to do the steps (4) to (15) again with the
following height of the Z-axis (use the same value for the adjustment of the right head as well if
the height is changed):
The gap is too small --> Use a value less than 5.3. (The head
will be closer to the table)
The gap is too large --> Use a value more than 5.3. (The
head will be farther from the table.)
(16) Once the adjustment for the left head is finished, repeat the steps of from (4) to (15) for
the right head. If the gap is not proper for the right head, redo the steps from (4) to (15).
(17) Click the "Z-axis Return to Origin" button. Check both heads Cable
are positioned at the same height using copy paper and so on. Put
back the cables, which have been removed from the cramp, to the
wiring clamp and lock them (shown in the right image).
(18) For the fine adjustment of the X, Y, and Z axes, perform the test
modeling as shown the following pages, using "Settings" --> "Head
Adjust" in the controller software.
- The adjustment of the Z-axis is required for both right and left
sides. Use the Change button to change the nozzle.
CAU- - When different types of filaments are used, it is recommended to
TION change a heater head because melting points are different. We
cannot warrant the proper performance if different filaments are
used on a single head.
66
15-3. Adjusting X/Y/Z Offsets
(8) Offset adjustments are performed through the practice of printing. First, load two filaments
referring to the description in "10-1. Loading Filaments."
(9) Print out the pattern named "XY Adjustment Pattern" for the adjustment.
Click the "Open" button and load "XY Adjustment Pattern 3_φ1.75_φ1.75.gcode" in the
Test Data folder.
Then, set the temperatures of both the nozzle and the table as shown in the following
table. Note that, when the one is for ABS and the other is for PLA, the table's
temperature should be 95°C.
ABS(ºC) PLA(ºC)
Nozzle 235 195
Table 95 55
When the temperatures reach the selected points, click the "Print" button.
(10) In the printed patterns, locate the points where the two colors patterns coincide for the X
and Y axis. In the pattern set that has eleven elements arranged in aside-by-side fashion,
the center element is given a value “zero” and the elements right next to the center have
values of 0.1 mm and −0.1 mm. Values are continuously changed by 0.1 mm as moving
toward the both ends. If all elements are misaligned, choose a value of +0.5 mm or -0.5
mm whichever shows smaller misalignment. For the Z-axis offset, the adjustment is not
required basically because the "Z-axis Height Adjust" has been performed; however, in
case the heights of two colors are different, "Right Head correction value relative to Left
Head" can be set.
67
−0.5 −0.1 +0.1 +0.5
68
(11) In the controller software (Pronterface), open "Head Adjust" from "Settings,” select the
values that match and click OK. You can configure "Right Head Correction relative to
Left Head" here as well.
(12) Repeat the printing and adjustment until no misalignment is found for both X and Y
axes.
(13) Once the adjustment is finished, always click the "Save Settings" button to save the
changes into the unit.
(14) Now, you have finished the adjustment of the X, Y, and Z offsets.
69
16. Use of LED Light
MF-2200D is equipped with LED lights as standard. Selecting "Light On" in the controller
software turns on the LED light.
Selecting "Light Off" in the controller software turns off the LED light.
70
(Appendix 1) Glossary
- Slicer Software
This software determines how to print polygon data such as STL and saves such data as
"G-Code File." It is called a "slicer" because it slices a polygon to multiple layers, calculates
a cross-section of each layer, and thus defines the outline of a polygon. MF-2200D uses
the "Slic3r" as a slicer software.
- Controller Software
This software sends G-Code commands one by one to the printer. MF-2200D uses the
"Pronterface" as a controller software.
- G-Code
This code describes all of the Printer's actions, for example, "Set the nozzle temperature at
195ºC," "Move to X-coordinate 100 mm point," and "Turn on the fan at 50% output." The printer
receives a code from the controller software and works as directed. The "G-Code File" is a file
in which several G-Codes are consolidated.
All the factors such as layer pitches, temperature conditions, or wall conditions are included
in this file.
- STL File
STL stands for "STereoLithography" and is the most popular polygon data format used for
3D printing.
- Polygon: The data represents a three-dimensional (3D) polygonal object using a lot of
triangles. An object consisting of planes can be represented with a few polygons, but a
large number of polygons are required to represent a curved object.
- Return to Origin. Immediately after the power on or after the manual operation, the printer
cannot locate the nozzle position. If the printer is operated under such condition, the
nozzle is moved beyond the workable range, which may cause trouble. Each of X, Y, and
Z axes (width, depth and height) has an "Origin switch." The printer can locate the correct
positon of the nozzle after the motor is run until the origin switch is pressed. This
operation is called "Return to Origin."

(Appendix 4) How to adjust Z axis without the use of a jig
You can adjust the Z axis without the use of the included jig. Note that in this method the head
tends to lean, therefore confirm carefully that the head is vertically set. In addition, you can
perform a fine adjustment through a software-driven method in the controller software
(Prontereface). This method can be used for slight height change. If you use this method,
please identify the current height value.

- Fine adjustment of the Z-axis height (through software-driven method): A software-driven
method can be used for the Z-axis height fine adjustment. Illustrating a method that adjusts
both the right and left heads to increase the Z axis height by 0.3 mm (increase the distance
between the head and the table) as an example, type the following code in the controlling
software when the printer is idle:
M206 Z-0.3
Clicking the "Send Code" button causes the code to be sent to the printer. To check whether
the height has been actually changed, send the following code:
M503
In the display of the settings, find a description related to the M206 and confirm that the
corrected value for Z is Z-0.30.
With this setting, an object will be formed at a 0.3 mm higher position.
* The corrected value is reflected at the shape forming. Note that this corrected value isn't
reflected to the height of when the "Z-axis Return to Origin" button is clicked in the
controller software.
This setting will be cleared when the power is turned off. If you want to save the setting, click
the "Save Settings" button.
