2020 Fillaboa-Albariño

This wine is produced from 100% Albariño grapes grown on the historic Fillaboa Estate located along the Tea and Miño Rivers in Spain's Rías Baixas region. The 2020 vintage benefited from a cool growing season that extended ripening, producing grapes with lower yields but high quality. The winemaking process focuses on retaining the grape's primary aromas through fermentation at cool temperatures and aging on lees. The resulting wine is straw-yellow, with aromas of ripe fruit and pleasant fermentation notes, and a smooth palate with well-integrated acidity that is balanced, fresh and persistent.

FILLABOA 2020

This wine is born on the historic Fillaboa Estate. The 54-hectare vineyard lies
on rolling slopes, bordering with the Tea and Miño Rivers in the south,
forming a natural frontier with Portugal. Fillaboa belongs to the Association
of Grandes Pagos de España. This coupage includes eight of Fillaboa’s best
plots, with the highest quality grapes. The sandy-loam soil has many stones
and the age of the vines ranges between 15 and 29 years old.
The 2020 vintage was influenced by early budding, followed by cold and rainy
weather, causing an initial delay at the beginning of the cycle, the cool tempera-
tures marked the development of the vine. However, the warm front then arrived
and the heat helped the ripening process along. From August onwards, the dry
and sunny days were dominant until harvest time, during which the rain also sta-
yed away. All in all, perfectly healthy grape clusters, with much lower yields and
wines of extraordinary quality.
Production was limited to 160,000 bottles of Fillaboa 2020, in which optimum
levels of alcohol and acidity and have been achieved, awarding very sweet and
balanced, fresh and long wines with good structure on the palate.

VARIETAL 100% Albariño.

WINEMAKING
The winemaking method in this winery is focused on potentiating the primary
aromas of the Albariño grape together with the singularity of the terroir, resulting
in harmonious white wines with good structure. Alcoholic fermentation takes
place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature of between 57ºF and
43ºF. Afterwards, the wine rests on fine lees for a minimum period of 6 months.
