Power IQ 8.1 Release Notes 1

New Features and Enhancements
The following features are new or enhanced in Power IQ 8.1

Operating System Update

Power IQ 8.1.1 includes an upgrade from the open-source CentOS release, which is a downstream of Red Hat Enterprise
Linux (RHEL), to a new open-source downstream of RHEL called Rocky Linux. This was done because Red Hat
unexpectedly announced the end of support for CentOS8 would be December 31, 2021. As part of the switch to Rocky
Linux, the security baseline for the appliances has been updated from RHEL 8.2 to RHEL 8.4.

Security Enhancements
Power IQ 8.1.0 contains multiple security updates and all customers should upgrade as soon as possible. Power IQ 8.1.0
is not vulnerable to any of the known log4j vulnerabilities (see the note on our support site).

This upgrade addresses several security vulnerabilities identified by the National Institute of Standards and Technology
(NIST). For additional information on the on the specific issues addressed by this fix please refer to the following articles
on the NIST website:

Enhanced Starline Busway Meter Support
Power IQ 8.1 enhances support for Starline Busway meters to enable users to configure :

• Meter name and location via bulk Configuration/CSV import

• SNMP trap destinations.

Bulk Configuration

Configure Starline meter names and locations

Starline meter names and locations can now be configured via CSV import.

Note: CSV import files should NOT include a value for PDU contact as the Starline meters do not support a PDU contact
value. If a contact value is included in the CSV, the import will fail with an error mesage similar to the following:

[FATAL] PDU 192.168.46.205 - 2 could not be updated due to: Facility item does not support the setting of contact
information

If this error occurs, any other PDU meta data name changes (PDU name, location) will NOT be attempted.

Note on V-type meters: In Power IQ, V-type meters with multiple outlets are represented as multiple facility items (one
facility item for each outlet where the proxy id of the PDU represents the outlet). However, each facility item shares a
single Name and Location value (since, physically there is just a single meter with a single SNMP agent). Therefore,
when configuring CSV imports for these facility items users should:

• Only specify name and location values for the facility item associated with outlet #1, or
• Specify the same name and location values for all facility items associated with a single Starline meter.

Note that if the CSV import includes any outlet name changes, the outlet name changes will succeed or fail
independently.

Note: Starline limits location and outlet names to no longer than 15 characters. If longer values are specified the
Starline SNMP agent will return an SNMP_ERROR_WRONG_LENGTH error.

Configure Starline meter SNMP trap destinations

Starline meter SNMP trap destinations can now be configured via bulk configuration.

Starline meters support the setting of up to two SNMP trap destination IPv4 addresses. Starline meters do NOT support
the ability to disable SNMP traps apart from clearing both trap destination fields or disabling the SNMP agent altogether.

Power IQ 8.1 Release Notes 12

Note: Power IQ does not support setting IPv6 trap destinations for Starline meters

Additional Comments
The table below provides helpful information on issues related to Power IQ Releases 5.2 and above:

Issue Comments
NTP time setting using IPv6 address fails if specifying the IP version to be 'IPv6'. If you set it to
NTP
'Automatic' it works as expected.
In firmware version 4.22, Starline added a new requirement for security purposes: “read and
write community strings must be different”

This is an issue because Power IQ only supports the configuration of a single community string
that it attempts to use for both read and write purposes. Unlike other vendors, Starline doesn't
permit a write community string to be used for SNMP get (.ie., read) requests.

If running firmware 4.22 or greater, users will need to specify the read-only community string in
Power IQ which will allow polling/data collection to work but set operations will not be
Starline Meters
supported. By doing this the end user won't be able to set the following through the PIQ UI:

meter name
meter contact
meter location
outlet names

Alternately, user’s can use SNMPv3 to manage these meters. SNMPv3 doesn’t use community
strings and therefore won’t encounter this issue.
In the console, there is an issue saving manually defined IPv6 routes.
IPv6 Routes

Power IQ 8.1 Release Notes 17

After adding a IPv6 route via the dialog box in IPv6 routes, two ‘Accept’ buttons are visible on
the main IPv6 route. One is a residual button from the dialog window. To successfully save the
change, you must use the Tab key to navigate to the lower left ‘Accept’ button and hit <Enter>.

This will be fixed in the next release.

In Power IQ R8.0.1, the use of SAML and LDAP\AD at the same time is not supported. In a
SAML & LDAP\AD
future release, this will be supported.
Linking Raritan Power IQ does not support hybrid port forwarded and linked PDU configurations on the same
PDUs master unit
On Raritan PDU’s, the timezone offset displayed on the PDU for a door access rule during
Door Locks daylight savings is off by an hour. This is a display issue on the PDU only and the door access
schedules as set in Power IQ do work correctly.
If the timezone is changed on the PDU, and door locks rules authorized by that PDU will
Door Locks continue to apply to the old timezone. Power IQ does a daily door lock authorization rule
refresh which will correct this at the next daily synchronization.
Door Locks Power IQ does not currently support door locks on Raritan Feature Linked PDU chains.
When restoring an R8.0.0 backup to an R8.0.0 system, the "Restore complete" won’t show
Database Restore when it’s done. To check the status, login after the system restarts and confirm the data was
restored.
BCM2 State Due to a firmware issue, the Raritan BCM2 will not send sensor state change traps in firmware
Change Sensor R3.6.0. This is fixed in Raritan’s R3.6.30 firmware release.
CPI Firmware Due to a firmware issue, Power IQ is unable to successfully push CPI Firmware 5.3.785 out to
Upgrade the CPI Secure Array with MCM4 hardware.
CPI Bulk Firmware Due to a firmware issue, Power IQ is unable to successfully bulk push CPI Firmware 5.3.825 out
Upgrade to CPI PDUs with MCM4 hardware.
Due to a firmware issue, running Power IQ’s SNMP diagnostics against a CPI PDU running the
5.3.825 firmware, will result in a snmpwalk command that will never complete and will continue
SNMP diagnostics to query the target PDU. To avoid this issue, customers should not run PIQ's SNMP diagnostics
against a CPI PDU running the 5.3.825 firmware. For assistance with this issue, contact Sunbird
Technical Support at [email protected] or via the Sunbird Support Portal.
When performing a firmware update, CPI Firmware 4.12.757 and 5.2.757 are shown in Power IQ
CPI Firmware as 2.0.757. This is due to an incorrect value in the firmware file itself. This issue will prevent
Display Power IQ from being able to push those versions out to the PDUs. CPI will fix it in newer
firmware versions.
CPI Outlet State Power IQ has changed the outlet state change timeout from 20 seconds to 300 seconds for CPI
Change Timeout PDUs. Power IQ now waits 300 seconds for a CPI outlet to change state from Off to On
SSL Certificates with too small of a key won't be restored via a database restore. Instead, the
SSL Certificates
default Power IQ generated certificate will be used.
The Following are Comments Previously Noted
Feature Linking When using the Feature Linking feature on Raritan and Server Technology PDUs, you may need
Support to adjust the poll rate if you observe gaps in the data.

Bulk configuration
When using the bulk configuration feature to change from SNMPv2 operation to SNMPv3

of CPI eConnect
• Chatsworth Products PDU’s must be configured in IPv4 only mode.
PDUs
• In order for the Bulk Configuration and Firmware update features to work on
Chatsworth Products PDU’s, all PDUs in the Secure Array™ must have the same PDU
Administrative Credentials as those provided to Power IQ for the Secure Array™. This
account must be set on each PDU using the Primary PDU and also on the Alternate PDU.

Power IQ 8.1 Release Notes 19

• The CPI Secure Array™ must be configured in accordance with the CPI User’s Manual. In
general, all PDU’s in the chain should be the same model version. If they are different,
consult the PDU user’s guide for guidance.
• Configuring Chatsworth Products PDU’s for IPv6 via Power IQ is not supported by CPI at
this time.
• If the primary Chatsworth Products PDU loses connectivity to the Secure Array™ while
updating the connected PDU’s, it will not send a trap indicating that there was a failure.
The user should use the firmware field on the facilities items tab to confirm that all
targeted PDU’s were successfully updated.
• After running a firmware update on a Chatsworth Products PDU Secure Array™, you
must wait until the Primary PDU has successfully updated the firmware on the rest of
the PDU’s in the array before running another Bulk Configuration plan on that Secure
Array™. The user should use the firmware field on the facilities items tab to confirm
that all targeted PDU’s were successfully updated. If the PDUs were placed into
maintenan Added per PIQ-19729ce mode for the upgrade, they should be returned to
service afterwards to ensure traps are processed.
• The Alternate PDU should be added to Power IQ using the IP Address of the master
PDU. Otherwise, issues with bulk configuration can occur.
Bulk configuration
Power IQ bulk configuration firmware upgrades to CPI firmware version 5.3.825 will fail
of CPI PDUs with

caused by CPI firmware
controllers.
Server Technology After changing the IP address on a Server Technology PDU, it may take up to a minute for the
IP Address Changes SNMP agent to come back online again following the change. This is a known issue.
Updating Server
When updating the v7.0 firmware for some Server Technology PDUs, the PDUs may lock up. This
Technology PDU
is a known issue.
Firmware
There is a low probability that upgrading the firmware on a Server Technology CDU1 PDU using
Server Technology an ME network card and running v7 firmware may cause the PDUs to lose communication after
v7 PDU Firmware the firmware upgrade. If this occurs, the bulk configuration report in Power IQ will show the
Upgrade Issue following message: "Firmware update failed. Reason: Connectivity check timed out.” To restore
communication, the PDUs must undergo a hard reboot (power off/on).
Updating
The SysLocation and SysContact for a master Server Technology PDU can updated via CSV
SysLocation and
import using either a record for the master PDU or PDUs linked to the master PDU. If the
SysContact
SysLocation and SysContact information for the master and linked PDUs do not match, the
Information for
update may fail, or the information may be incorrectly overwritten. To address this issue, the
Server Technology
SysLocation and SysContact for the master PDUs and its linked PDUs should match.
PDUs
If Power IQ is unable to communicate with a Server Technology Sentry3 PDUs using SNMPv3, try
Enabling SNMPv3

Technology Sentry
Switched PDUs
On Server Technology CDU1 PDUs running v7 firmware, Power IQ will generate an “Admin
Credentials Invalid” event and display the PDU in a Warning state for the following reasons:

• PDU Administrative Credentials are added to Power IQ but don’t match those of a user
Server Technology account on the PDU
PDU Firmware • PDU is running pre-v7.0m firmware
Version and X.509 • PDU has an older X.509 certificate that was generated with an older encryption protocol
Certificate Issues that is no longer considered secure.

Before upgrading to Power IQ R6.2.0, Sunbird recommends upgrading all Server Technology
CDU1 PDUs to v7.0m firmware or greater and generating a new certificate if the PDU has an
older, incompatible X.509 certificate.
Raritan First

to ensure that they can bulk configure their PDUs with this firmware version.

To provide a more secure web experience, TLS 1.0 is disabled in Power IQ 5.2.2 and above.
Due to this change, after upgrading Power IQ to Release 5.2.2, data sync to Raritan's
CC-SG Data Sync CommandCenter® Secure Gateway (CC-SG) may fail. CC-SG doesn't support TLS 1.1 or later.

A hotfix is available to address this issue. For more information or to obtain the hotfix, contact
Sunbird Technical Support at [email protected] or via the Sunbird Support Portal.

Power IQ 8.1 Release Notes 21

In Power IQ 5.2.3 and earlier, certain APC Symmetra Floor UPSs were managed as Rack PDUs.
Following the first poll upon upgrade to Release 6.1.1, the type for these facility items will
update from "Rack PDU" to "Floor UPS". As a result, customers managing APC Symmetra Floor
UPSs in Power IQ may experience the following:
• Increased license usage. A Rack PDU requires one license, while a Floor UPS requires
APC Floor UPS five licenses. For assistance with additional licenses, please contact Sunbird Technical
Support Support.
Single-phase Floor UPSs misidentified with a third line/phase. A single-phase Floor UPS with
two lines that had been previously managed as a three-phase Rack PDU with three lines may be
identified as retaining the third line when converted from a Rack PDU to a Floor UPS in Power
IQ. To address this issue, decommission and then recommission the Floor UPS in Power IQ.
Upon rediscovery, the Floor UPS will be correctly identified.
Before configuring door control, ensure that the time on the server is set correctly. Otherwise, it
Door Control can prevent Power IQ from accurately updating events, sensor states, and providing an accurate
audit log.
CPI MIB IPv6
The CPI MIB incorrectly lists the Primary IP address instead of the Alternate IP address for IPv6.
Address
We’ve enhanced IP address filters on Event Notifications to allow specific IP matches versus any
IP Address Filters
IP starting with a given value. Going forward from Release 5.2, you can enter an asterisk (*) at
on Event
the end of any IP address to match IPs starting with a value. On upgrade, we preserve existing
Notifications
suffix wildcard matching by automatically adding the asterisk when needed.
Following an upgrade to 5.2, Netbotz sensors may be decommissioned and recreated. If a
Netbotz Sensors sensor in the EDM hierarchy is decommissioned, the customer should re-place the desired
Netbotz sensor back into the desired location in the EDM.
There is an issue in the PX1 1.5.7 firmware that is not likely to be fixed since 1.5.7 is supposed to
be the final release of the PX1 firmware. The PX1 is supposed to keep the MIB-II sysName and
Raritan PX1 1.5.7
object instance (i.e., PDU Name) objects in sync. When setting sysName via SNMP (as PIQ does
Firmware
via an csv outlet renaming import), these two values will be out of sync until the SNMP agent is
restarted or the PDU is rebooted.
